Sounds like something that could happen in Rockford

Sounds like something that could happen in Rockford.
We’ve been reading for the past couple of years of the escalation of attacks, verbal and physical, by the abortion supporters at the Northern Illinois Women’s Center (Rockford’s abortion killing center).

The recent murder of a pro-life supporter outside an abortion center in Owosso, MI and attacks against pro-life supporters all across this country show an increase in violence outside these clinics, reflecting the violence that goes on inside the clinics.  The article below is yet another example of this increased violence.  There is a modicum of safety in numbers; therefore we are encouraging all who profess to be pro-life to give our Lord one hour in prayer at an abortion center near you.  And pray unceasingly for the dedicated men and women who show up at the abortion mills all across the nation and in particular for those who show up every week at the Rockford, IL killing center.
Pregnant Pro-Life Advocate Attacked by Abortion Center Worker in Kansas City
Kansas City, KS ( — An abortion center employee attacked a pregnant pro-life volunteer outside the Central Family Medicine abortion business in Kansas City, Kansas, while she was outside it. On November 14, 2009, an unidentified abortion center employee came out of the Central Family Medicine abortion facility and began to taunt the pro-lifers who had gathered outside. Her verbal abuse escalated into violence as she rammed her shoulder into sidewalk counselor Jennifer McCoy, who is noticeably six months pregnant. A photograph taken by protest leader Mark Gietzen of the Kansas Coalition for Life shows McCoy recoiling and bracing for the hard impact that occurred a split second later.
Police were summoned, but the abortion worker attempted to flee the scene before they could arrive. McCoy followed the woman to keep her from evading the police. After realizing that she could not get away, the worker returned to the abortion center where she hid behind locked doors. Police attempted to enter the abortion center to arrest the woman for battery, but they were denied access by another worker who demanded that the police get a search warrant, then lied to them saying that the woman was not there. McCoy has since been in contact with police, who are pursuing the case.
There remains the possibility that the second abortion worker could face criminal charges for impeding a police investigation. "This is yet another example of abortion workers engaging in violent or criminal acts, then acting as if the laws don’t apply to them," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We look forward to this woman’s impending arrest and conviction with the hope it will serve as a lesson that abortionists and their collaborators are not above the law."

Mary Mohler wife of Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary is speaking out against the kind of clothing many Christian women are wearing today, including what she sees in some churches on Sunday mornings.

To put it bluntly, Mrs. Mohler believes there are certain clothes Christian women should never wear — ever. Baptist Press reports that whether it be miniskirts, hip-hugger jeans, or skin-tight shorts, Mrs. Mohler believes all should be avoided because Christian women have an obligation to dress modestly & reflect holiness. She says the world’s attitude toward fashion should not be the Church’s.
"The [world’s] attitude is if you’ve got it, flaunt it," Mrs. Mohler told a gathering of women where she spoke about the biblical view of modesty. "Leave as little to the imagination as possible. Regenerate women, I don’t believe, leave home with this attitude. We seek to live godly, holy lives." At the risk of being labeled an "authoritarian parent," Mrs. Mohler provided a laundry list, so to speak, of clothing items she said her daughter will never be permitted to wear: halter tops, tube tops, skin-tight skirts, low-cut shirts, midriff-exposing shirts, miniskirts, short shorts ~ and anything from Abercrombie & Fitch.
Parents, she told the gathering, have a challenging job in directing, teaching, and nurturing their children. While she acknowledges that all parents want their children to love them & think the best of them, Mrs. Mohler said when it comes to providing direction in choices of clothing for their teenage daughters, parents need to set aside the sometimes conflicting concerns about being a "friend" or a "parent." "We’ve got to teach them from the early days that they have to stand for something — or they’re going to fall for everything," she said.
Mrs. Mohler also addressed the effect immodest clothing has on men, saying Christian women need to help their male counterparts maintain pure thoughts. "We must remember what battles men face to stay pure as they are stimulated visually by women," she said. "They should never have it flaunted in their faces. To have it done at church is an abomination." Fred Jackson & Jody Brown AgapePress
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

Mary's Dream

We are pleased to present several articles we found in a wonderful publication called Christian Action News.  Some of these articles ran several years ago but are even more timely today.  Please take a moment to read each article and think about what it says.  Each year Christmas becomes more commercialized and less about the real meaning of Christmas-the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  He was born that we might have eternal life; how blessed we are for that precious gift.  And how blessed we are that Mary said yes to God.

Marv’s Dream
JOSEPH, last night I had a dream that I don’t understand. It was about the celebration of our Son’s birthday. People prepared for weeks. They would go to the stores & everyone was busy buying many gifts & decorating their homes.
Something was strange because the gifts were not for our Son. They would wrap them in beautiful paper & ribbons and put them under a tree. Yes! A tree inside their homes! Its branches had colorful balls & ornaments. On top of the tree was an angel. Everything was beautiful!
Everyone seemed to be happy & excited at the gifts they gave & received. But Joseph, they gave nothing to our Son. I don’t think they even know Him. They didn’t even mention His name. Isn’t it all very strange Joseph that people would put so much effort into the birthday of someone they don’t even know? I think Jesus would feel like an intruder on His own birthday celebration. Everything was beautiful & everyone was busy with the celebration. I felt like crying because our Son was ignored. How sad for Jesus not to be part of His own birthday! I’m happy that it was only a dream. How terrible for everyone if it were true._______
Jesus is the onlv Reason!
Beyond all the social events, the parties, the shopping & gift giving, all the cards, the baking, the busyness etc., our real reason to celebrate is the fact that in a tiny manger without any of the creature comforts that we are accustomed to, was born our Savior, Jesus Christ. He would live amongst us, teach us & then offer up His life for us so that Heaven would be open to us again.
That’s what we celebrate! The ultimate gift of life, the promise of an eternal home with God our Father. During this busy season, take some time to reflect on the love of God, who did not spare His only begotten Son, so that we could enjoy eternity in Heaven!
This Christmas, try to reach out to someone who is lonely or alone. Offer up a random act of kindness or a donation in someone’s name instead of fancy gifts. Think of three people you would like to touch, or three situations you would like to change for the better. That’s the true Spirit of Christmas! Guaranteed, you will be filled with Christmas Joy and Heaven will rejoice.
Christians have a divine responsibility to insist on keeping Christ in Christmas. Christians should avoid the secular greeting of "Happy Holidays". Whenever someone greets us with "Happy Holidays, we should respond "Merry Christmas". We send Christmas cards, trim Christmas trees, sing Christmas carols & give Christmas gifts. If not Christmas, then what holiday is it! We need to put Christ back into CHRISTmas.
A Most Blessed Christmas!
One Solitary Life!
He was born in an obscure village & worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. He became an itinerant preacher. He never held an office, never had a family or owned a house. He didn’t go to college, had no credentials but Himself. He was only thirty-three when the public turned against Him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to His enemies, went through the mockery of a trial & was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth. He was laid in a borrowed grave.
Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race. All the armies that have marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that One Solitary Life!
Some Interesting Facts about Christmas
During early Christianity, different parts of the world celebrated Christmas on different dates. If you traveled widely in the Roman world, you could enjoy six different Christmases in a year. It was Pope Julius 1 in the mid-fourth century who appointed Dionysius, a monk, to set a calendar standardizing a universal date, which came to be December 25th.
Christmas was outlawed in England by the Puritans under Oliver Cromwell [1599-1658] who thought of it as a "heathen celebration".
It was illegal to celebrate Christmas until the monarch was restored in 1660.
The Puritans in New England also outlawed Christmas. The following law was passed in Massachusetts in 1659: Whoever shall be found observing any such day as Christmas shall pay a fine to the country. The law remained on the books for 22 years.
In Spain, Christmas gifts are not exchanged until January 6th. It is the date commemorating the visit of the Magi, who were the first to offer Christmas gifts, gold, frankincense & myrrh.
The custom of sending Christmas cards began in 1843 when a wealthy Englishman, Sir Henry Cole, ran out of time to write personal letters to his friends at Christmas. He commissioned an artist to design a card instead. The artist John Calcott Horsley drew a picture of merry-wishers raising their glasses in toast with the words, "A Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year". The card created much controversy that it encouraged holiday drinking, but the custom caught on.
The Poinsetta is a Christmas tradition from Mexico. According to a legend, a boy named Pablo was headed to his village church to see its nativity scene. Realizing he had no gifts for the Christ child, he hurriedly gathered some branches & weeds from the roadside. When he laid them before the manger, the other children laughed at him. But suddenly there appeared on each branch, the brilliant star-shaped flower of the Poinsetta.
Candy Canes were reportedly developed by a Christian candy maker in Indiana who built the story of Christmas into each piece. The hardness of the candy represents the solid rock of the Christian faith. The white represents the sinlessness of Christ, and the red stripes symbolize the bloody wounds caused by flogging. The shape of the candy is that of a shepherd’s staff, representing Christ as our Good Shepherd. Turned upside down, it forms the letter J for Jesus.
Our word Christmas comes from the English observance of the birth of Christ called Christes Masse [Christ’s Mass], because a special Mass was celebrated on that day. In France it is known as Noel, In Spain, Navidad, and in Italy, Natale, all those words meaning simply-birthday. The Germans use the word Weihnachten, meaning holy nights.
The day after Christmas is called Boxing Day in England because of the custom of giving Christmas boxes containing gifts & money to servants.______________________________
Christmas-A Clear & Present Danger?
Columnist Cal Thomas notes the drive to erase religious rights from public schools. Back in 1992, the superintendent of Frederick County, Virginia, public schools Thomas Malcolm issued a memorandum instructing teachers & administrators to no longer refer to Christmas by its traditional name, but to substitute "winter holiday". Christmas parties are OK for schools to hold, but the must be called "holiday parties".
Malcolm did this on his own. He was not responding to a complaint or lawsuit, just the "possibility" that someone might be offended. Teachers were instructed to refer to Easter as "spring break" or use other terminology that does not convey religious meaning. When threatened with a lawsuit by the Rutherford Institute, a law firm that argues religious freedom issues in court, Malcolm withheld implementing the policy until a committee he created studies the matter further. This strike against traditional American holiday & the beliefs and practices of an overwhelming majority of Americans is another blow to what remains of our heritage. Malcolm acted at a time when mandatory sex education is the rule in every Virginia public school. Children as young as kindergarten must now be sensitized to AIDs, homosexual & lesbian lifestyles, but apparently the words "Christmas" and "Easter" are regarded as a clear & present danger!
With the assistance of pressure groups, government now indulges in the final frontier of bigotry what writer & Catholic theologian Michael Novak calls "Christophobia". Traditional Christians & Jews are the new counterculture, aliens in a land their fore fathers’ beliefs & values established. Anything that seems to come from or lead to a world not of this one is deemed offensive, illegal & unwise.

Comment:More the reason that as God’s people, we need to speak up whenever things we hold so dear to our hearts are being attacked by a minority of godless people. We’re called to be "salt & light" in a world that desperately needs direction. We cannot & must not go along with the flow. When someone greets "Happy Holidays" return the greeting with a "Blessed Christmas", for that is exactly what it is, a blessed birth! Be sure to send "Christmas" cards and not "holiday" cards. We should go out of our way to keep Christmas a sacred day!
Writing’s on the Wall
[1] In his book, "Hitler’s Cross" Erwin W. Lutzer analyzes the Nazi Agenda for Germany & how the German church responded. "Since Germans had for centuries celebrated Christmas & Easter, Hitler had to reinterpret their meaning. Christmas was turned into a totally pagan festival; in fact, at least the SS troops, its date was changed to Dec. 21st, the date of the winter solstice. Carols & Nativity plays were banned from schools in 1938 & even the name of "Christmas" was changed to "Yuletide". Crucifixes were eliminated from classrooms & Easter was turned into a holiday that heralded the arrival of spring. You will recognize the same changes taking place in America today.
[2] Shops are stocking ‘Mother Christmas’ outfits to avoid being taken to court over sex discrimination. Woolworth’s says it’s stocking the outfits in 800 stores to avoid problems with European gender legislation. It’s because of a clause which rules against products reinforcing gender stereotypes – like Father Christmas. Nicole Lander, from Woolworth’s, said: "As a UK retailer, we have to abide by EU regulations." Legal expert Tony Askham, has told The Sun: "It’s taking the legislation to extremes but it’s the sort of problem that retailers are finding hidden away in equality laws."
[3] Police recruits in Honolulu will no longer say, "So help me God," when they take the oath required of all new police officers. Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church pressured the police department to omit the word "God" on constitutional grounds – the "separation of church and state" argument. In fact, the U.S. Constitution says nothing about the separation of church and state. It just says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Some have interpreted the sentence as a blanket ban on uttering the name of God on government property. Wire reports said the Hawaii "Separation" group is now going after the Honolulu fire department, pressuring it to remove the name of God from a firefighter’s prayer printed in a department safety guide.                     (
Godless Americans
Atheists are promising to become a political force. Thousands of people were expected to gather at the U.S. Capitol for the "Godless Americans March on Washington." Atheists say they’re being discriminated against and they want their voices heard. The atheists say there’s too much of God in our society today and now they want equal time. The rally is an attempt to focus on their needs.
Ellen Johnson, president of American Atheists — the organizer of the march — is claiming victim status for atheists. "The discrimination is there," Johnson said. "It’s hard to tell your parents that you’re an atheist because a lot of them are devastated. And in the public schools as well, your peers and classmates might treat you differently & try to set you up for proselytization."
Johnson expects this rally will become a time for those self-described "Godless Americans" to unite and stand together for what they believe. Paul Weyrich, president of the Free Congress Foundation, summarized his reaction to the march succinctly: "It’s utter nonsense," Weyrich said. "It is a mark of how far America has declined that these folks would even dare gather together and have this march."
Pointing to the 1950s, he noted, "When we had a true Godfearing nation, we were the most ordered, moral nation on earth." But then came the ’60s and a moral slide away from God. "They have declined in exact proportion to those people who have abandoned their belief in God and who have abandoned their Church," Weyrich said. That has led to this ~ a rally for people who are looking for a better America but simply don’t know where to find it. American Atheists said atheists plan to become a political force on Capitol Hill and it’s through events like this one that will build their base. Some of the latest numbers show 13 percent of the population has no religion.

On Friday November 20, an estimated 15 children died inside of Rockford’s abortion mill.  In what appeared to be a pathetic celebration by the abortion facility of the increased numbers of abortions today they put up a sign in the window that said N.I.W.C 500,000 – Bishop and Protesters 50 – attached to this sign near the number 50 was a small picture of Jesus with a child in his arms.
Last summer we video taped one of the abortion clinic staff members bragging that they make $500,000 doing abortions.  It seems this sign is their attempt to inform the public that they have make a lot of money off of abortions and the protesters and Jesus (pictured with the child in his arms) have only saved 50.
We have seen all this before at this abortion facility. Their counting the 50,000 abortions they have done as a victory over Jesus and then bragging about the money made off of the misery of women and children that it hardly seems worth mentioning again.  But this should be a reminder to us all of the evil we are facing, of the horror of abortion in the city of Rockford.  In the heart of our city we have a killing center that mocks God as it destroys human life – this should and must be a call to all of us to pray constantly and fast for an end to this evil in our city.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36
Thankfully the presence of 15 to 20 Christians in prayer on the sidewalk most of the morning may, through the grace of God, have played a part in two mothers who left the mill before the abortionist arrived.  As one of the cars was leaving the young father smiled, waved, and had the look of a person who’s child life has just been spared.
On Wednesday November 25,  An estimated 11 children died inside of Rockford’s abortion mill.  Christians prayed outside of the killing center this morning so no child died alone or unloved.
The mission of Rockford Pro-Life Initiative is to eliminate abortion in the Rockford area through Prayer, Fasting, Education and Personal Sacrifice.
We Have Much to be Thankful For: CHRIST and LIFE
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 5:20
Rockford IL, November 2009 – Everyone associated with the Rockford Pro-Life Initiative has so much to be thankful to God for.  In the past year many lives have been touched by the prayers and generosity of the pro-life community of Rockford it is difficult to put into words the gift of love all of you have been for mothers and children in need.
Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.  1 thess 5:18
One recent incident is an example of the overflowing generous love of our God that we should all be encouraged by and thankful for.  A member of the Rockford Pro-Life Initiative received a late light phone call last Monday evening Nov 16, concerning a young mother who was scheduled for an abortion in a couple of days at the Northern Illinois Woman’s Center.  We immediately got word to the young mother that pro-life Christians  throughout Rockford would be more than willing to help her in anyway she needed.  Through email and phone calls hundreds of people began to pray for both mother and child.  We also asked her to go to and watch the videos about the Rockford abortion mill. We didn’t hear anything for almost a week.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!  Psalm 118
At 7:30am a week later, this Monday morning Nov 23, the phone rang and an excited woman on the other end announced, "she didn’t have the abortion!"  She went on to say the young mother just couldn’t believe that people were willing to help her and that so many hundreds of people were praying for her.  The young mother also went to the web-site and watched two videos that also played a part in her choosing life.  The video of Lisa’s testimony outside the Rockford abortion mill "Lisa’s Baby Died Here" and the video "Signs of Evil" helped this young mother who’s child was scheduled to die inside of Rockford’s abortion mill realize that abortion is not what she thought it was.
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6
This Thanksgiving we have much to be thankful for – Jesus Christ our Savior and the life he has given all of us.  And we here at the Rockford Pro-Life Initiative are also very thankful for everyone of you who prays and works for the lives of the least of Christ’s people in Rockford.  May God bless you and your families.
"Manhattan Declaration" Embodies U.S. Christian Pushback against Abortion, Same-Sex "Marriage"
Drafted by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson , signed by 125 religious leaders
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 20, 2009 ( – A group of prominent Christian leaders and scholars unveiled a manifesto Friday declaring firm opposition to current and future laws infringing upon the sanctity of life, marriage, faith, and liberty.
The 4,700-word  "Manhattan Declaration: A Call of Christian Conscience" was drafted by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson and signed by more than 125 Orthodox, Catholic and evangelical Christian leaders, including Focus on the Family Dr. James Dobson and National Association of Evangelicals president Leith Anderson.  15 Roman Catholic bishops, including Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York and Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., were among the signatories.
The declaration issues a clarion call to Christians to adhere to their convictions and informs civil authorities that the signers will not – under any circumstance – abandon their Christian consciences.
For more information:
"We are Christians who have joined together across historic lines of ecclesial differences to affirm our right – and, more importantly, to embrace our obligation – to speak and act in defense of these truths," reads the declaration.
"We pledge to each other, and to our fellow believers, that no power on earth, be it cultural or political, will intimidate us into silence or acquiescence."
The document lays out the groups’ arguments against anti-life, anti-family, and anti-religious public policy as contravening "foundational principles of justice and the common good," in defense of which the group says they are "compelled by our Christian faith to speak and act."
In asserting Christians’ right to conscientious objection to such policy, the declaration says it is "ironic" that those who advance as "rights" various immoral practices "are very often in the vanguard of those who would trample upon the freedom of others to express their religious and moral commitments to the sanctity of life and to the dignity of marriage."
"Because we honor justice and the common good, we will not comply with any edict that purports to compel our institutions to participate in abortions, embryo-destructive research, assisted suicide and euthanasia, or any other anti-life act; nor will we bend to any rule purporting to force us to bless immoral sexual partnerships, treat them as marriages or the equivalent, or refrain from proclaiming the truth, as we know it, about morality and immorality and marriage and the family," it concludes.
"We will fully and ungrudgingly render to Caesar what is Caesar’s.  But under no circumstances will we render to Caesar what is God’s."
Co-author Timothy George, who is founding dean of Beeson Divinity School of Samford University and a senior editor of Christianity Today, said the Manhattan Declaration "represents an ecumenism of the trenches that has been going on for a number of years among many denominations and confessional traditions."
"While we recognize that many important differences of doctrine and discipline still divide us, we nonetheless earnestly seek that unity for which Jesus prayed when he asked that his disciples be one in their love for God, for one another, and for the world," said George.
On his radio show BreakPoint Wednesday, Evangelical leader Chuck Colson called the Manhattan Declaration "probably the most important document I’ve ever signed."
Woman’s Lawsuit: She Yelled Stop, Practitioner Continued With Forced Abortion
Flint, MI ( — Alberto Hodari owns six abortion centers in Michigan and has delivered multiple reports on how he has three of them up for sale. A new lawsuit from a woman who says he forced her to have an abortion could explain why Hodari is quickly moving to divest himself of his abortion business.
Hodari, who has killed at least two women in botched abortions, put a for sale sign on his Flint, Michigan center last week and also on his facilities in Livonia and Southgate.
Today, Operation Rescue president Troy Newman provided with more details of the lawsuit based on the records filed in court.
Bruce filed a suit against Hodari and his assistant, "Victor" on June 17 over an incident that took place at Hodari’s Flint abortion center in April 2008. Bruce alleges that she went to Hodari’s clinic seeking an abortion, but, before the abortion began, she changed her mind, decided against it and told Hodari. However, Hodari and his assistant forcibly restrained Bruce and held her down, according to her suit.
Bruce screamed "Stop, stop, I don’t want this," but her mouth was covered to muffle her pleas while Hodari forced her to have the abortion. Full story at
Victim of Forced Abortion Says Practitioner Hodari "Ripped the Life" Out of Her
Flint, MI ( — Caitlin Bruce is the victim of a forced abortion that saw abortion practitioner Alberto Hodari and a staffer forcibly restrain her as she screamed no. Now, Bruce has given an interview to a local television station where she describes how Hodari and his associate "ripped the life" out of her.
"He told his assistant, you know, ‘Hold her down.’ You know? They had my arm pinned, his weight was all on my chest, and then he took his hand and he had it so tight on my mouth that it was muffled," she told WJRT. "I was screaming and crying." "It felt like they were ripping a life out of me," she said.
Bruce described how she was just 18-years-old at the time of the abortion and six months pregnant when she went to Hodari’s Feminine Health Care Clinic abortion center in Flint last year.
"I was nervous and I really didn’t have the moral support I needed. And I just didn’t know what to do," Bruce told the ABC television station. Full story at

Empty Manger Caroling At Rockford’s Abortion Mill

Bringing Hope to a Place of Despair

On Wednesday December 23, at 7:30am Christians will join together to pray and sing Christmas carols at Rockford’s abortion facility.  It is our hope that as we sing beautiful carols celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ it will touch the hearts of mothers scheduled for abortion at the Northern Illinois Woman’s Center this morning.

Our prayers and carols at the Rockford abortion mill this morning will be a special gift of love from the Rockford Christian community to our Lord and Savior who once was a child in the womb Himself then was born into human history to save us from sin and death.  We will also be present as a witness of love for any child who will die inside of the abortion mill this morning or throughout the year.

Man emerged from what doctors thought was a coma

A man who emerged from what doctors thought was a coma says he was fully conscious for 23 years but could not respond because he was paralyzed, his mother said Monday.

Rom Houben, 46, had a car crash in 1983 and doctors thought he had sunk into a coma.  His family continued to believe their son was conscious and sought further medical advice.

Professor Steven Laureys of Belgium’s Coma Science Group, realized that the diagnosis was wrong and taught Houben how to communicate through a special keyboard, said Dr. Audrey Vanhaudenhuyse, who is on Laureys’ team.

Rom used the device to tell a reporter for the

German magazine Der Spiegel that, “I screamed but there was nothing to hear.”

Belgian doctors who treated him early on said that Rom had gone from a coma into a vegetative condition.

Coma is a state of unconsciousness in which the eyes are open and can move, and the patient has periods of sleep and periods of wakefulness, but remains unconscious and unaware of him or herself or others.  The patient can’t think, reason, respond, do anything on purpose, chew or swallow.

But Rom’s parents would not accept that he was comatose or vegetative.

His mother, Fina Houben, said in a telephone interview that they took him five times to the United States for tests.

More searching finally got her in touch with Laureys, who put Houben through a PET scan that indicated he was conscious.  The family and doctors then began trying to establish communication.

A breakthrough came when he was able to indicate yes or no by slightly moving his foot to push a computer device placed there by Laureys’ team.

Then came the spelling of words using his finger and a touch-screen attached to his wheelchair.

“You have to imagine yourself lying in bed wanting to speak and move but unable to do so-while in your head you are OK,” Vanhaudenhuyse said.  “It was extremely difficult for him and he showed a lot of anger, which is normal since he was very frustrated,” she said.

The case came to light after Laureys published a study in the journal BMC Neurology this year showing that about four out of ten patients with consciousness disorders are wrongly diagnosed as being a vegetative state.  Houben, although not specifically mentioned, was a part of the study.

Houben has started writing a book on his experiences.

Pro-lifers reject vandalism

How Much Ridicule Can One Neighborhood Take?

Pro-lifers heard this morning that someone at the abortion facility claimed there was an "attempted" act of vandalism in the alley behind the abortion facility.  Pro-lifers reject vandalism committed against anyones property.

It is unfortunate that the Northern Illinois Woman’s Center has a very large sign "perverts lurking in the area" that the residents of the Broadway and 10th street neighborhood have had to experience for months on end.  In a neighborhood where many people walk to and from home to work, stores, schools, and businesses, a sign saying "perverts lurking in the area" is very unfair to these people.

Combine this with rubber chickens hanging from nooses in a neighborhood with many African Americans, and pictures of Jesus constantly giving the finger to every passerby makes it is a very sad thing for the people who live here to have to experience.

The people of Rockford should encourage the Northern Illinois Woman’s Center to forge a new relationship with the people of the Broadway and 10th street area based on mutual respect.  It’s time to end the name calling and vandalism that have prevented this neighborhood from growing and moving forward and that promotes an atmosphere of crime and vandalism.

The people of this neighborhood do not deserve to be treated this way.

A growing number of lawsuits

The Birth Control Pill Kills Women
Bayer’s Yaz and Yasmin under fire from FDA and growing number of lawsuits

American Life League has been educating men and women across America for years on the dangers of using birth control. ALL’s program, The Pill Kills, employs an annual theme to explain the science, myths and facts about the pill and its impact.
Last year’s theme was "The Pill Kills Babies/’ which explained the abortifacient effects of the pill.
This year, the theme was "The Pill Kills Women," aimed at warning users of the fatal effects that can be caused by the pill. Rachael Maddow expressed sternly CNN’s culture-of-death convictions as she she mocked our signs and message, showing utter contempt for anyone who listened to our "ridiculous" assertions.
Unfortunately, those who take Ms. Maddow’s "professional" news reporting seriously may be doing so at their own peril. ALL’s program is carefully researched and scientifically correct.
According to a July 24, 2009 article on, "A growing number of lawsuits over Yaz and Yasmin have been filed throughout the country against pharmaceutical giant Bayer, alleging that women suffered serious and potentially life-threatening injuries after using the birth control pills.
"Yaz and Yasmin, which are both manufactured by Bayer, are combined oral contraceptives that contain ethinyl estradiol, long used in oral contraceptives, and drospirenone, a new type of prog-estin that is not used in any other birth control pills approved in the United States.
"The Yaz and Yasmin birth control lawsuits all contain similar allegations that the warnings are inadequate because they do not properly indicate that the use of drospirenone increases the risk that women may suffer a variety of side effects, such as heart attacks, strokes, gallbladder disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death.
"Drospirenone can increase blood potassium levels, potentially resulting in a condition known as hyperkalemia, which is known to disrupt heart rhythms and potentially lead to death. Individuals who have pre-existing kidney, liver and adrenal disease could be particularly susceptible.
"Over 50 reports of Yasmin or Yaz deaths were reported to the FDA between the first quarter of 2004 and the third quarter of 2008, according to some of the complaints. The deaths involved women as young as 17 and included cardiac arrests, pulmonary embolisms and strokes, with elevated levels of potassium in the blood frequently reported."
Following a third warning by the FDA that Bayer’s advertisements and marketing for the birth control pills are false and misleading, additional state and federal lawsuits have been filed, asserting these factors contributed to the injuries of dozens of Yaz customers.
In a separate story, Patti Kelly, 28, was diagnosed in August with multiple blood clots in both lungs. Her doctor told her that if she hadn’t come into the emergency room when she did, she"could have died instantly." Kelly’s doctor named birth control as the primary cause.
"Women have been told for years that the birth control pill is the answer to their medical complications, when it is only causing more problems—even death," Marie Hahnenberg, The Pill Kills project director said.
In 2008, Johnson & Johnson spent more than $68 million to settle hundreds of lawsuits filed for blood clots, heart attacks and strokes suffered after using its Ortho Evra birth control patch.

Few Who Love The Cross!

Few Who Love The Cross!

Few Who Love The Cross!

Few Who Love The Cross!

Jesus has many lovers of His Heavenly Kingdom
but few who are willing to bear His cross.
He has many that are desirous of comfort
but few of tribulation.
He finds many companions of His table
but few of His abstinence.
All desire to rejoice with Him
few are willing to suffer with Him.
Many follow Jesus to the breaking of the bread
few to the drinking of the Chalice of His Passion.
     Many reverence His miracles
few follow the ignominy of His Cross.
Many love Jesus as long as they meet with no adversity
Many praise Him and bless Him
as long as they receive consolation’ from Him
If Jesus hid Himself and leave them for a while
they fall into complaints or excessive dejection.
But they that love Jesus for Jesus’ sake and not for any comfort of their own, bless Him no less in tribulation and anguish of heart than in the greatest of consolation. And if He should never give them His comfort, yet would they always praise Him and always give thanks.
Oh, how much is the pure love of Jesus able to do when it is not mixed with any self-interest or self love. Are not all those to be called hirelings who are always seeking consolation? Are they not proved to be rather lovers of themselves than of Jesus who are always thinking of their own profit and gain? Where shall we find a man that is willing to serve God gratis? Seldom do we find any one so spiritual as to be stripped of all things.
[Thomas A. Kempis]
