40 Days makes an impact

This report is full of news, read on….

40 Days for Life continues to make an impact on this community, in many ways that we see with our own eyes, and in many ways that we will never hear about.  This story was given to us from the pastor of one of our supporting churches.
I just wanted to let you know of a testimony of one of our members.  Their cousin was pregnant and unknown to them but they were going to abort the baby.  When we presented 40 Days for Life last week she found out that her cousin was going to abort the baby.  She didn’t know what to do but began preying on her own for her cousin.  We, as a church, were unaware of any of this and were praying corporately for mothers and fathers who were considering aborting their babies to change their mind.  Well, her cousin actually went into the clinic to abort her baby, but while there had a change of heart and left the clinic choosing life for the baby.  It is wonderful, a life saved!  We will be trying to reach out to her.
Continue to have faith that our efforts are not in vain.  Already 5 babies have been saved that we know of, and only God knows how many eternal souls have been saved.

40 Days for Life Becoming a Global Phenomenon
Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
February 24, 2010 (40DaysforLife) – As we open the second week of our 40 Days for Life campaign, I’d like to salute the many people around the world who have officially joined this amazing effort to pray and fast for an end to abortion.
There are six campaigns in progress in Canada: Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta; Toronto and Guelph, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; and Kelowna, British Columbia.
In Kelowna, the 40 Days for Life vigil is outside Kelowna General Hospital, where abortions have taken place for years. There has been a regular prayer presence there — but 40 Days for Life is bringing many more people to the sidewalk to pray.
In Australia, Sydney has launched its first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign, and I’m really thrilled to see this mission expanding Down Under, with Melbourne also joining second-time participant Brisbane this time, and other cities planning for the future.
The 40 Days for Life team in Sydney hit the ground running, gathering the enthusiastic backing of Catholic Bishop Julian Porteous, who said, "As a society we cannot allow ourselves to accept the fact of abortion as acceptable, because we would be taking the view that human life is expendable."
The bishop added that 40 Days for Life "is a peaceful, prayerful campaign, and has my full support."
40 Days for Life also has a European presence. Belfast, Derry and the rest of Northern Ireland are all joined with you in prayer, but with an additional intention — to protect all of Ireland, where abortion remains illegal.
Those who support abortion, of course, are vigorously doing everything they can to change that.
Just this month, the European Parliament adopted a report that says, "Women must have control over their sexual and reproductive rights, notably through easy access to contraception and abortion." Pressure, obviously, is building.
Please keep praying!
We are all far, far apart in terms of distance, but we are all of the same mind and heart when it comes to protecting God’s innocent children.
Our amazing God knows no bounds … and no borders.
Wisc. Planned Parenthood Caught in Sex Abuse Cover-Up
MILWAUKEE, February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – New undercover footage shows staff at a Milwaukee, Wisc. Planned Parenthood abortion clinic apparently breaking the law by counseling a purportedly 14-year-old statutory rape victim not to tell anyone about her 31-year-old boyfriend, and coaching her how to obtain an abortion without her parents’ consent.
The new video, the seventh in a series from Live Action documenting similar behavior in 5 other states, comes amid recent controversy about Planned Parenthood’s compliance with state laws regarding minors and abortion.

After hearing that the girl is 14 and her boyfriend is "much older," the counselor in the video says that whether or not the situation will be reported by clinic workers "depends on the person you’re disclosing that information to." When the girl says that her boyfriend is 31, the counselor tells her, "You don’t have to say anything" about the statutory rape and instructs her, "Just give them the information that’s needed." The counselor also confirms that the 31-year-old "boyfriend" will be paying for the abortion.
In Wisconsin, sex between an adult and a minor under age 16 is a felony, and health care professionals are required to report such cases to law enforcement immediately. The law specifically includes abortion providers in this requirement.
Live Action, the youth-led pro-life nonprofit that produced the video, has previously released undercover footage in its "Mona Lisa Project" showing sexual abuse cover-up at Planned Parenthood clinics in California, Indiana, Arizona, Tennessee, and Alabama.

The Alabama Department of Health put a Birmingham Planned Parenthood on probation two weeks ago after finding 9 legal violations during an investigation prompted by a Live Action video.
Twenty-one-year-old UCLA student Lila Rose, Live Action’s president, says her organization’s videos reveal a common trend of unethical counseling practices and disregard for the law at Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S.
"In case after case, Planned Parenthood exempts itself from its legal and professional obligations," said Rose. "At a time when the Obama administration, through its new health care plan, is offering potentially billions of dollars to the abortion industry, state and federal lawmakers need to take notice of Planned Parenthood’s lawlessness and make certain they receive no more taxpayer subsidies."
Live Action is also responsible for a
recent video exposè of biased counseling and medical misinformation at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. Wisconsin law requires that women be provided accurate medical information before undergoing an abortion.

"The evidence is now available for all to see that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin ignores state laws that have been in place for years," said the Live Action president.

"Wisconsin law enforcement needs to follow the lead of other jurisdictions, investigate this corrupt organization, and enforce the laws that protect vulnerable women and their pre-born children."
Dramatic Pro-Life Rescue in Vegas
By Peter J. Smith
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A dramatic pro-life rescue recently took place in Las Vegas, after a woman who had already started the process of a late-term abortion was convinced to reverse the procedure and save her unborn child, and in the process overcame a drug addiction.
The National Catholic Register reports that most pro-life activists and doctors are not aware that the process of some late-term abortions can be reversed once it has begun. But luckily for Jamie Stout and her healthy unborn baby, two pro-life activists knew this was the case and were able to reach out her and convince her that she still had a window of opportunity to stop the death of her child.
“It isn’t over till it’s over,” Pam Caylor, executive director of First Choice Pregnancy Services in Las Vegas, told the Register when describing their rescue of then 20-week-old “Baby Claire” – now happily a month away from being born.
The Register reports that Caylor’s crisis pregnancy center, First Choice, “already saves well over 2,000 babies a year in Las Vegas.” But it was First Choice’s ultrasound operator Marina Cortopassi, who told her that her neighbor’s daughter, Jamie Stout, was getting an abortion. Stout was a drug addict with one child already being raised by her parents, and she did not want to put them through raising another daughter.
By the time Cortopassi met with Stout and her father at the abortion clinic, workers had already just started the abortion – a three-day process at 20 weeks – having inserted laminaria sticks into Stout’s cervix for dilation and induced labor.
However, Cortopassi managed to convince Stout’s father and Jamie that it was still not too late to reverse the abortion and keep the baby. The abortionist had not yet given the baby a lethal injection, but they only had less than six hours to remove the laminaria from Jamie – and find a doctor who would do it.
As the drama unfolded, Caylor and Cortopassi were successful in finding two physicians confident to direct the emergency room doctor on how to remove the laminaria. And none too soon: nearly five hours had passed before the ER doctor finally was able to remove them.
Throughout the ordeal, Caylor, Cortopassi, and members of the First Choice staff prayed for Stout, her baby, and the successful operation.
The whole experience ended up transforming the family, healing old wounds and binding them closer together – something Caylor called nothing short of a miracle. Stout told the Register that by the grace of God, she immediately lost her addiction to drugs.
“I feel totally excited and completely blessed now, given a second chance,” Stout said. “It was a big wake-up call not only for me but for my family, where we stand with our belief with God, faith and when life begins.”

Day 9 of 40 Days for Life: The Difference You Can Make
February 25, 2010 (40DaysforLife.com) – Do you know how important your presence in front of  an abortion center can be? Here are a few reports  from local 40 Days for Life campaigns that just begin to tell the story.
One of the prayer volunteers in Houston, Texas says a mom and her young son arrived to pray at their vigil in front of Planned Parenthood. The woman had aborted her first child at that very location.
She HAD to be there to pray, she said. "I can’t help but think that if some pro-lifers were here" when she had the abortion, "maybe I wouldn’t have gone through it."
Those sentiments were echoed by BJ, who posted a comment on the 40 Days for Life blog.
If only there had been someone praying outside Planned Parenthood in her city, 19 years ago, "it would have made all the difference in the world to me and my boyfriend," she wrote. "I regret every day what occurred in that cold winter morning."
Just BEING THERE can have a profound impact.
Joanne tells of a mom who brought her children to the 40 Days for Life vigil in Cranston, Rhode Island. While they were praying, her son noticed a woman sitting in a car in the parking lot. He looked in her direction once, and then again.
The woman looked at him, and their eyes locked.
"The woman began sobbing," Joanne said. "Something in her heart moved."
We pray that God’s healing love will touch women contemplating abortion — and all whose lives have been touched by past abortions. The suffering can go on for years.
Dorothy, who left a note on the 40 Days for Life blog, said she still thinks of the "horrific decision" she made 26 years ago, when there was no one there to tell her she could choose life for her child.
She had never healed from the pain of that abortion — until recently.
"When I stood and prayed in front of Planned Parenthood, I was flooded with emotion," she wrote. "Holding the sign that ‘women regret abortion’ empowered me, along with the wonderful people that surrounded me in prayer."
Sadly, not all of the women who see her sign take heed.
"A young woman leaving Planned Parenthood looked away in profound sadness after reading my sign," Dorothy said, "and I thought, ‘Dear God. Her life will never be the same.’ The impact on women is so understated."
Still, she said, thanks to you and all 40 Days for Life participants, "I am now on the road to healing."
Please pray for all those who seek healing — and especially for those who would deny that abortion leaves a lasting impact.
Two volunteers stood in the rain and prayed at a
40 Days for Life vigil last week as a young man
drove up, got out of his car with the engine still
running, and walked over to talk to them

"I just wanted to thank you for being here," he said.
"I know you know what kind of a place this is," he
said, pointing towards the abortion facility. "Can I
tell you a story about it?"

The prayer volunteers nodded yes, and the young man
began to pour out his heart.

He said a couple of weeks ago, his wife was not at
home and he had no idea where she was — until he got
a phone call from the hospital. "My wife had been
admitted because she was having seizures," he said.

At the hospital, he found out his wife was pregnant.
It would be a struggle with two young children already,
he said, but they’d work it out.

As he spent more time at the hospital, it began to
dawn on this young man that no one was telling him
the whole truth. He realized something was seriously
amiss when his wife told him she’d left her car at an
abortion facility.

He thinks she went there for a chemical abortion —
the abortion pill. She began to have seizures and was
taken to the hospital.

His wife insisted she was still pregnant, but he
simply didn’t know for sure.

"I haven’t stopped crying in over two weeks," he said.
"What kind of place is this that would do this to a
married woman without telling her husband, the father
of the baby?"

"We asked if we could pray for him," said one of the
prayer team members. "As we prayed, the young man began
to cry again. Just imagine how he felt — betrayed,
helpless. We assured him that he will get through this
trial and that God loves him."

Vigil participants hugged him, and he thanked them for
being there on this rainy day. "Please keep being here,"
he said, and then returned to his car and drove away.

"While we did not save a baby from an abortion," said
the volunteer, "we brought Christ to a hurting father."

Please pray for this young man, who fears he may have
lost his child to abortion. Please pray as well for
his wife and for his family. Please pray that those
who are deceived by the abortion industry will be
awakened to the truth of God’s love — and the
awareness that all things are possible with God.

"And, if you are willing," the vigil participant said,
"please consider joining us as we keep vigil for these
40 Days for Life."

Today’s devotional is from Carmen Pate, a member of
the 40 Days for Life board of directors.

Pray to God who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine, to end abortion in America.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly
above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by
Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.

— Ephesians 3:20-21

REFLECTION by Carmen Pate, 40 Days for Life

God’s power working in and through His people is
unlimited and far beyond our comprehension when we
submit to God’s Word and Spirit. He receives glory
when we are obedient to His calling and faithfully
serve Him in His strength.

Consider God’s hand of providence on this nation
because of the faithfulness of a few who were totally
committed to God and His truths.

It is interesting to note the words of Mother Teresa
of Calcutta: "Yours is the one great nation in all
history which was founded on the precept of equal
rights and respect for all humankind, for the poorest
and weakest of us as well as the richest and

Mother Teresa, in addressing the Supreme Court of the
United States said, "Human rights are not a privilege
conferred by government. They are every human being’s
entitlement by virtue of his humanity. I have no new
teaching for America. I seek only to recall you to
faithfulness to what you once taught the world.

She continued, "Your nation was founded on the
proposition very old as a moral precept, but startling
and innovative as a political insight that human life
is a gift of immeasurable worth, and that it deserves,
always and everywhere, to be treated with the utmost
dignity and respect."

It is time to restore that dignity and respect. Our
God is able. Are we willing to remain faithful until
His work through us is done?

Join with us in prayer for an end to abortion.

For those of you who cannot be with us praying Rockford’s abortion center, we invite you to be with us spiritually and lift up our hearts in prayer to our Father in heaven for the purpose of bringing an end to the slaughter of His innocent unborn babies.

Follow the words below as we unite our hearts in prayer.

Elyea’s Folly

Elyea’s Folly? The following story is another example of the chaos that the bubble zone has brought into the Chicago area.  Alderman Karen Elyea’s proposed bubble zone for Rockford will bring this kind of confrontation and upset into our community.  Pray that this non-productive, confrontational, and, according to many, illegal legislation does not go through.

Now It’s a TEN Foot Bubble?
As Sidewalk Counselors and Prayer Warriors gathered on Saturday, February 13, 2010 to pray outside of Planned Parenthood at 1200 N. LaSalle in Chicago, they were subjected to yet another interpretation of the Bubble Zone law.
Making It Up As She Goes Along
This weekend saw the return of Officer Hagen. This is the officer who, on January 9, inaccurately told us we could not picket within 150 feet of the clinic or stand within 8 feet of the door but, upon reading the ordinance, magnanimously granted us permission to pray.
This week she told our sidewalk counselors they “can not come within ten feet of the doorway and try to hand—that’s panhandling.”
Ten feet? Panhandling? What?
To clarify that we were still talking about the Bubble, I told the officer that the Bubble [PDF] is only eight feet. She told me that the difference was insignificant. Holding her hands about 10 inches apart, she said “eight feet, ten feet, it’s this much.”
Maybe she meant two baby feet, because that’s not two standard feet with 12 inches in each!
The charge of panhandling strikes me as particularly amusing. “Panhandling” is asking for something, or begging. Offering literature is the exact opposite! It’s giving something!
Moreover, if the Bubble Zone ordinance was supposed to solve all of Planned Parenthood’s problems, why does this officer need to bring in extra, inapplicable, laws to get us to go away? What is the point of the Bubble after all?
Ignoring The Signs
Amusingly, now the police are taping me, taping them. The second officer to arrive on the scene went back to her car to get her video camera, then told me, “We all get cameras.” Later she walked up to me and took my photo. If she brings the picture back next week, I’ll autograph it for her.
Aid For Women ad right outside Planned Parenthood
As you can see in the video, someone had placed two signs outside the clinic on Saturday. Although last time Hagen was there, we were told we couldn’t let the signs even touch the sidewalk, this time she paid no notice to signs which were unmanned and leaning against a street sign.
Pro-Life Victory
One pro-life victory from this week, though, is the new billboard put up by Aid For Women. It’s on the newsstand near Planned Parenthood’s doorway and offers women real assistance. I know these ads are expensive, and I’m sure Aid For Women would appreciate a donation to support this project, if you are able.

If Obama does not want to go to church, that is his business

Several officials from the Obama administration are scheduled to meet today with representatives of the Secular Coalition for America. Commenting on this meeting is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

People of faith, especially Christians, have good reason to wonder exactly where their interests lie with the Obama administration. Now we have the definitive answer. In an unprecedented move, leaders of a presidential administration are hosting some of the biggest anti-religious zealots in the nation.
No one opposes men and women who are incidentally agnostic or atheist from expressing their concerns, even to the White House. The problem with today’s meeting is the profile of the coalition’s members and organizations. On the advisory board of the Secular Coalition for America are such activists as Robert Boston, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Susan Jacoby and Michael Newdow. Member organizations include American Atheists, the American Ethical Union and the Council for Secular Humanism. All of these persons and groups have a track record of open hostility to people of faith, and some have been downright bigoted in their assault on Christianity, especially Catholicism.
If President Obama does not want to go to church, that is his business. But it is the business of the American people, most all of whom are believers, to know where the president and his administration stand with regards to their concerns. It is not likely that this outreach to anti-religious activists—many of whom would crush Christianity if they could—will do anything to calm the fears of people of faith. Indeed, it will only alienate them even further.
It is important that the public learn of the contents of this meeting. We will do what we can to find out what happened.

Excellent article in The Chronicles magazine.

The Rockford Institute has long been one of the most prestigious think tanks in the nation and has weighed in with an excellent article by Scott P. Richert which we are happy to share with you.

An Arresting Moment
by Scott P. Richert,is the executive editor of Chronicles.
Five years ago, I wrote of the horror that Aaron Wolf and I experienced as we spent a morning photographing the old Turner School here in Rockford.  Built in 1898, the massive brick-and-stone structure was closed 80 years later by a school board attempting in vain to avoid a lawsuit over busing.  Today, little effort is being made to maintain the exterior, and weeds grow up in the lawn out front and the former playground in back.  Four or five days out of every week, passersby might assume that the building is still shuttered.
Would that it were.  Instead, for the last quarter of a century, it has been the home of the Northern Illinois Women’s Clinic—the antiseptic-sounding name for Rockford’s only abortuary.
It has another name, too.  The building’s current owner, Wayne Webster, dubbed it “Fort Turner,” but its walls offer no protection—certainly not to the children whose lives end there, but neither to the mothers who may spend the rest of their lives in regret over having sacrificed their daughters on the altar of “women’s rights,” nor to the fathers who pay for the ritual murder of their sons.
And if the antics of Wayne Webster over the years—dressing up like the devil to harass pro-lifers praying the rosary on the sidewalk outside the clinic; trying to drown out their prayers by shouting obscenities over loudspeakers he has mounted on the exterior walls; hanging rubber chickens (including one mounted on a crucifix) and obscene signs and pictures in the windows—are any indication, the walls of Fort Turner (where Webster also lives) have not protected him from spiritual attack.  But then demons, like vampires, are always looking for an invitation to enter in, and they may well have taken up residence inside Fort Turner when the first abortion was performed there a quarter-century ago.
As if providing a location for an average of 35 murders each week is not enough, over the years Webster has hung signs in the windows of Fort Turner mocking the Christian beliefs of the pro-lifers: “Jesus loves these brain dead a—holes,” “These Bible-thumpers suffer from lack-o-nookie,” “God bless these horny old sweat-hogs,” “NIWC 50,000, JC 50” (that is, by the time the abortuary reached 50,000 children killed, Jesus Christ had saved only 50).  But Webster’s latest outrage crossed from mockery into blasphemy, when, in late summer, he hung up a sign with the inscription “Even Jesus Hates You,” under an image of Christ extending the middle finger of His right hand.
The Rockford Pro-Life Initiative, a coalition of pro-life activists founded in 2008 to “eliminate abortion in the Rockford area through Christian, non-confrontational means,” including “Prayer, Fasting, Education and Personal Sacrifice,” asked Rockford police to enforce city ordinances against the offensive use of property by ordering Webster to remove the image.  When a police sergeant refused, saying that the sign was not offensive, a veteran pro-life activist, Kevin Rilott, received permission to address the Rockford City Council.  Pro-lifers showed up at the meeting with small devotional pictures of Christ, and Rilott implored the council to take action—to no avail.
The Rockford ordinances state that it is illegal to “disturb or destroy the peace of the neighborhood in which such building or premises are situated.”  While it is by no means certain that a court would agree that Webster’s blasphemous sign violates the ordinances, many of his other actions—especially the blasting of rock music and the shouting of obscenities over the loudspeakers mounted on the outside of Fort Turner—clearly do.  Yet there is no record of Webster or the clinic being issued a citation.
A few weeks after Webster hung the “Even Jesus Hates You” sign, Rilott was praying outside of Fort Turner, in the same spot where he has stood for a decade.  Webster’s security guard asked him to move, and when Rilott refused, he called in the police.  An officer on the scene asked Rilott to pick up a large painting of Christ that he had propped up next to him; when Rilott refused, the officer called in the same police sergeant who had refused to take action on Webster’s sign.  After ordering the pro-life protesters to turn off their video cameras, the sergeant confiscated the painting on the grounds that it was “unattended” and threw it in the back of his squad car.
So, pictures of Our Lord giving the finger to faithful Christians are acceptable; “unattended” paintings of Christ are not.  (As video footage of the incident shows, Rilott was never more than two or three feet away from the painting at any time.)
When pro-lifers use graphic images of aborted children in their protests, the media views such actions as provocation (which, in some cases, such as that of the recently murdered James Pouillon, it may well be).  But you will look in vain for equivalent treatment of Webster’s blasphemy (or similar actions at abortuaries around the country).
Pro-lifers’ use of graphic images, I have argued, is counterproductive at best; but while they do not show us the truth, they at least portray reality.  Webster’s sign does neither—though it may give us a glimpse into the depths of his soul and of the sleepless nights he spends guarding the gates of Hell.

40 Days for Life Rockford

An estimated 25 children were killed at Rockford’s abortion mill this past week;    45 Babies Saved During 40 Days for Life…in Less than a Week;     Abortion on the Lord’s Day? No Way Say 40 Days for Life Volunteers;   Your Prayers are Being Answered Says 40 Days for Life Head;     Two Dozen Frozen Babies Found in Grisly Abortuary Police Raid….

On Friday February 19, an estimated 13 babies were killed at the Rockford abortion mill.  Just one of the sad situations noticed by the sidewalk counselors was when a car came in with what looked like a father and son inside.  They sat in the parking lot until another car arrived with a woman and a young girl.  The two cars parked next to each other, and all four got out and walked toward the clinic together.  The two young people looked as if they were 15 or 16 years old.
A sidewalk counselor with over 20 years’ experience said it surely appeared as though they were the boy’s mother and father, taking them in to end the life of the baby.  She thought the boy’s mother probably went and got the young mother out of school and brought her to the clinic so the child could be killed without the girl’s parents’ ever knowing she was pregnant.
We have no laws on the books that protect the rights of parents of children taken to an abortion mill, and as far as we know, in 25 years the abortion mill in Rockford  has never reported to the police even one case of an underage girl’s being pregnant even when she has been brought  there by an older man or people who are not her parents.  This is the culture of death in America today.
Despite the evil that takes place at Rockford’s abortion mill, the grace of God through 40 Days for Life is building a culture of life and love right before our eyes.  The sidewalks in front of this place of death have had Christians in reverent prayer for 12 hours a day since 40 Days for Life began.
Through the power of prayer, God’s grace reached the hearts of two mothers this morning, and they chose LIFE!
As she drove away, one of the mothers told a sidewalk counselor she and her baby were OK.  Then she smiled, nodded, and waved at the pro-lifer who called out to her as she was walking across the parking lot as if to say, "Thank you for sharing the truth of Christ and life with me.  My baby will live."
The power of prayer and 40 Days for Life was very clear to everyone this morning.
On Wednesday February 24, an estimated 12 children were killed at Rockford’s abortion mill.  Again this morning the power of Christian witness was clear.  We had a Minister and Priest quietly on the sidewalk in deep prayer.  Many others praying, holding signs, or offering support and words of encouragement to mothers entering the mill.
The result was two mothers who left the killing center before the late term abortionist arrived from Madison.  This particular late term abortionist is in semi-retirement in Wisconsin but makes a special trip to Rockford occasionally to end the lives of children past the age of when the other abortionist will kill them.  Through the grace of God and the faithful witness and prayers of many Rockford area Christians two mothers were saved from the horrifying experience of have their child killed this morning.  All praise and glory to Jesus Christ our Savior!

45 Babies Saved During 40 Days for Life…in Less than a Week
By David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
February 22, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Want to get your Monday off to a great start? Then here’s a report guaranteed to launch your week in marvelous fashion!
Thus far during this 40 Days for life campaign (which only began last Wednesday), 45 lives have already been saved from abortion!
Here are just a few of those miraculous stories:
Louisville, Kentucky:
On the first day of the 40 Days for Life campaign, three mothers changed their minds!
Tammy in Louisville said the abortion center staffers "were so mad they came out and started yelling at us. We give all the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ." One woman had been given a coupon for a free ultrasound at the pro-life pregnancy center across the street. She went inside the abortion facility — but only stayed five minutes before leaving and going to the pro-life center, where she used that coupon.
"She saw the 4-D ultrasound and changed her mind," Tammy said. "What a blessing!"
Reno, Nevada:
A young woman had scheduled an abortion appointment, fully intending to go through with it. Carol Marie said, "when she heard there were other options available, she took the time to investigate for herself and realized we were correct."
The woman left the facility and returned later — not for an abortion, but for a refund.
The staff saw her hugging prayer volunteers as she was approaching the door, so they refused to let her in. They made her wait in her car while they processed her refund. "Praise God that we had the opportunity to be there," said Carol Marie.
Melbourne, Australia:
"We had a turnaround in Melbourne this morning while we were praying," said David.
He spoke to a couple who had arrived for an abortion appointment, asking the young woman to think about what abortion will do to her. "Already she has another little boy. She said both were unplanned."
They took a pamphlet with phone numbers of various support agencies. "Let’s continue praying that this young couple have the courage to continue with this pregnancy," David said.
The Bronx, New York:
"We had our first confirmed turnaround of the Lenten 40 Days for Life," said Brian.
"The ability to actually see these first results of the effort to save babies is an amazing experience. The real impact, however, is impossible to know. It is a bit overwhelming to think that just one little word or one action, like handing out a flier with information on abortion can have an impact that not only touches the lives of that mother and child, but makes a change that reverberates down the generations."
Brian added that not only is this work life-changing, but it truly changes all of humanity — "all because of a little bundle of joy that is spared on a cold February morning in the Bronx."
Amen! Have a great week!
Abortion on the Lord’s Day? No Way Say 40 Days for Life Volunteers
Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Early Sunday morning, local coordinator Ernie Cyr sent out an urgent message to 40 Days for Life volunteers in Pensacola, Florida. He had just found out that abortions were taking place at the city’s only abortion facility. Yes, on the Lord’s day.
Ernie’s request for prayer volunteers at the 40 Days for Life vigil was quickly answered. It would soon become apparent that their prayers were being answered as well.
A woman drove up and told the vigil participants, "I called my sister and convinced her not to have an abortion!"
It wasn’t easy — her sister was already inside the building. The woman got on the phone and tried to speak to her sister, but the abortion facility staff refused to let her take the call.
Finally, the woman told the center’s staff it was an emergency and she must speak to her sister urgently. The staff reluctantly permitted them to talk. The woman explained to her sister that there were far better options than ending the life of her unborn child.
She listened … and called off the abortion.
The woman then went into the building, came out with her sister and returned to the pro-life volunteers.
"When the young mother came out she looked dazed and confused," said Ernie, "like the weight of the world was upon her shoulders."
She was still very much in shock after almost aborting her child. "It was so terrible in there," she said. "The noise in that place was awful."
A counselor from a pro-life pregnancy center was able to tell her about the free resources and free medical services that would be available throughout her pregnancy, as well as community services that can assist her until her child is ready to start school.
Ernie asked if she was able to get her money back. "She said she paid $525 for the abortion but they would only give her back $300 or so, so I told her that the pro-life community in Pensacola is absolutely behind her." He’s already started a collection.
"I told her all will be well because she just made a life-giving decision," he said. "God has put the pro-life community in Pensacola behind this woman. And we will not fail her!"
Fantastic report! But guess what? There’s more!
"There were six — yes, six — other mothers that chose life for their babies," Ernie said. "Praise God! Women were absolutely fleeing the abortion facility today!"
Ernie called it a "slam dunk miracle."
"So come on out and pray in front of the abortion facility every chance you get," he said. "Jesus is really, really using us to save lives!"
Your Prayers are Being Answered Says 40 Days for Life Head
Commentary by David Bereit, 40 Days for Life National Coordinator
February 19, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As you pray and fast for an end to abortion, please be aware that your prayers are being answered.
Early Wednesday morning — the first day of this campaign — 40 Days for Life vigil participants were praying for a young woman who arrived for an abortion appointment in Cleveland. On her way towards the building, she stopped and talked to one of the counselors on the sidewalk.
The vigil participants feared the conversation had not made an impact. Still, they kept praying.
A short time later, the young woman left the facility in tears. She could not go through with the abortion, thanks to the conversation with the counselor — and the prayers.
Michael in Cleveland says a second life was saved around lunchtime on Wednesday. 40 Days for Life participants were praying as a woman left the abortion center … smiling. The man with her — the baby’s father — was also smiling.
She walked over to the people praying and said, "Don’t worry. I didn’t do it!"
The young couple drove away, happy … and still smiling. Said Michael, "Our God is awesome!"
On Day 1 in Huntsville, Alabama, vigil participants were praying for two young women. One had arrived for an abortion. The other was doing her best to try to talk her friend out of aborting her baby.
The two went inside together while the people on the sidewalk continued to pray …
… and pray …
… and pray!
They were inside for two hours, which could have been seen as a discouraging sign. But finally, the friend came out. "Did you see how long I was in there?" she asked … and then she announced the good news.
"I talked her out of it!" she said.
"Thanks for everything!"
"Everything," of course, included two hours of praying intently that God would touch this young woman’s heart — and inspire the friend who desperately wanted to see the baby live.
Prayer indeed works!
People praying at the Planned Parenthood abortion center in Providence, Rhode Island learned that as well. A woman drove up, eager to talk.
"You were out here praying two years ago when I went in to have an abortion," she said. "I just want you to know that I came out of the clinic that day. I decided to have my baby. I love her and I wanted to thank you."
Thank you … and thank our amazing Heavenly Father, who hears each word of prayer.
Please keep praying!
Two Dozen Frozen Fetuses Found in Grisly Abortuary Police Raid
PHILADELPHIA, February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – State police investigating a Philadelphia abortuary stumbled upon a gruesome discovery last week: over two dozen fetuses in jars preserved in a freezer in the abortionist’s office, according to local reports.  Authorities temporarily suspended the abortionist’s license soon after the raid, after discovering clinic conditions they called "deplorable and unsanitary" – including bloodstains on the floor.
State drug agents, as well as FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration agents, commenced the investigation last week at West Philadelphia’s Women’s Medical Society.  Various sources are reporting various reasons for why the investigation was launched.
According to FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver, as cited by UPI, officials were acting on a tip that Gosnell was performing illegal late-term abortions. However, law enforcement sources cited by the Philadelphia Inquirer stated that officials were investigating the abortionist on suspicion of illegal distribution of prescription painkillers. While CBS 3, which broke the story, said the investigation was launched in response to a woman’s death during a botched abortion there on November 20.
While the investigation began last Thursday, a subsequent investigation stumbled upon the fetal corpses, some of them killed as long as 30 years ago, displayed in the office of abortionist Kermit Goznell.  Those fetuses are being analyzed to determine whether they were killed at a point beyond the legal gestational age for abortion.
Following the investigation, officials issued a suspension order, saying the conditions of the clinic were "deplorable and unsanitary," reports the Inquirer.
"There was blood on the floor, and parts of aborted fetuses were displayed in jars," states the order, which called Gosnell’s continued practice of medicine "an immediate and clear danger to the public health and safety."
Records indicate that Goznell was publicly reprimanded by the state licensing board in 1995 for employing an uncertified assistant who treated at least one patient.
Sources cited by CBS 3 say that in the November abortion death, an unlicensed assistant allegedly administered drugs to a woman who later died during an abortion procedure.  The woman’s corpse reportedly contained high levels of a painkilling drug.

More On Safe Clean Abortions

Pa. abortion doctor’s license suspended after raid

By JOANN LOVIGLIO  PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Federal agents raided a clinic where abortions are performed and found "deplorable and unsanitary" conditions, including blood on the floor and parts of aborted fetuses in jars, according to the state agency that shut it down and suspended the license of the doctor in charge.

In the order suspending Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s license, the Pennsylvania Department of State’s Board of Medicine said investigators found numerous health and safety risks at Gosnell’s abortion and pain-management clinic, including a preoperative and recovery area that consisted of several recliners grouped together.
The Women’s Medical Society clinic is open during the day, but Gosnell does not arrive until somewhere between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and is the only person with a medical license working there, according to the order.
A clinic employee told investigators that Gosnell directed her in his absence to conduct gynecological examinations and administer painkillers to patients, the document states.
The temporary suspension of Gosnell’s license follows at least two raids by agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI. At the time of one raid – at 9 p.m. on Feb. 18 – investigators found the clinic full of patients.
On Nov. 20, the document states, a patient died after being given two separate doses of painkillers plus anesthesia before an abortion.
Gosnell’s number is unlisted and calls to the clinic rang unanswered. It’s not known if he has an attorney. His practice is located near the University of Pennsylvania campus in a large corner building, where a note in the window said that all patient appointments were canceled.
No criminal charges have been filed. Officials from the Philadelphia district attorney’s office, DEA and FBI declined to comment, citing the ongoing probe and a sealed search warrant.
Kenneth E. Brody, attorney for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, confirmed that the department was assisting in the investigation but declined to discuss details.
Separate from the criminal probe, an investigation by state regulators will determine whether there is enough evidence for a formal hearing before the state Board of Medicine, said Department of State spokesman Charles Young.
"The petition alleges in this case that there is a threat to public safety," Young said, "but he is presumed innocent until proven otherwise."
According to Department of State records, Gosnell, 69, received his medical license in 1967. He also was authorized to practice medicine in New York in 1970.
In 1996, he was fined $1,000 by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine for employing an uncertified physician’s assistant. No other disciplinary actions were found.

UW Funding Students at Abortion Centers

University of Wisconsin Accused of Illegally Funding Students at Abortion Centers

by Steven Ertelt
Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) — A Wisconsin pro-life group says it has uncovered documents showing the University of Wisconsin may be illegally funding internships for medical students at abortion centers. State law prohibits the use of taxpayer funds to pay for election abortions or to abortion centers.
The Alliance Defense Fund pro-life legal group, in conjunction with Pro-Life Wisconsin, used an open records request to gather the information.
The documents reveal the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) has been funding medical students’ rotations at Planned Parenthood, training medical students in abortion procedures.
Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, notes that state law prohibits taxpayer funding of elective abortions.
“The mountain of evidence continues to build showing UW’s deceit,” she said in a statement LifeNews.com received. “I challenge UW and UWHC officials to prove they have not violated state law.”
According to Wisconsin Statute 20.927, “No funds of this state or of any county, city, village, town or long term care district or of any subdivision or agency of this state or of any county, city, village or town and no federal funds passing through the state treasury shall be authorized for or paid to a physician or surgeon or a hospital, clinic or other medical facility for the performance of an abortion.”
Hamill also points to Statute 20.9275, which prohibits spending state funds on programs that provide, encourage, or refer for abortions.
The pro-life groups say medical students in the UW School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Department have two four-week rotations at Planned Parenthood, where they view and participate in abortions.
The documents include an email dated November 14, 2008 from Carl Getto, M.D., the senior vice president of medical affairs at UWHC, in which he says: “UWHC has been paying for the [Planned Parenthood] rotation to date. We will continue to do so. Please let Planned Parenthood know.”
The groups also point to a November-December 2008 email exchange where Gloria Frane, an employee of the UW School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Department, stated that UW paid abortion practitioner Caryn Dutton and two companions to travel to the University of North Carolina to view how late-term abortions are done there.
Frane concludes the email with, “I hope the ladies’ trip re: the pregnancy [termination] was a success!”
Virginia Zignego, communications director for Pro-Life Wisconsin, was also incensed.
“As a UW graduate, I am deeply ashamed my alma mater is funding the destruction of innocent human life and training future baby killers,” she said. “UW’s blood runs red, indeed.”
Pro-Life Wisconsin and the Alliance Defense Fund have filed an additional open records request for any recent records regarding payments made between UW and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
