Responding to President Obama’s health care proposal is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:
Every time President Obama’s spokesmen are asked about the Senate health care bill that authorizes federal funds for abortion, they reply that none of the bills put forth are the president’s own. Moreover, the president has said that he would never sign a health care bill that funds abortion.
This issue is now settled, once and for all. President Obama’s own proposal, which modifies some aspects of the Senate bill, has just been released. According to Newsweek, “The President makes no changes to the controversial abortion language included in the Senate bill.”
While it is true that the pro-abortion camp will not be happy with the president for not striking some restrictions it deplores, the fact remains that President Obama could have adopted the pro-life friendly language of the House bill. The fact that he didn’t is what matters most.

Videos of 40 Day Kick-off

40 Days for Life Kick-off Rally

An inspiring rally was held on Feb 16, at First Evangelical Free Church to begin this years 40 Days for Life campaign.  These video’s will show you the heart, faith, and deep commitment to life, love, and Jesus Christ of the Rockford pro-life community.

These video’s will show you why the culture of death is ultimately doomed to failure in Rockford.  Because "We are the people of life because God, in His unconditional love, has given us the Gospel of Life, and we are called to act accordingly."  John Paul II
Editor’s Note: We feel we need to explain that YouTube only allows video clips up to ten minutes; as a result, you will find that the videos below do not appear in the order as presented on that kick-off evening. It is with much sadness that portions had to be cut to fit YouTube. The spirit of the message is here and it was our privilege to be present during these Christ centered presentations. May God richly bless all of you and your families who are participating in this life saving 40 Days event.

A bad dream for America

Serious Cause for Concern

As you may know some of the highest levels of government have declared that the majority of the people of this nation ( over 56%) are considered terrorists because they are pro-life.

This defies comprehension. I think most of us, in the back of our minds, had hoped that this was just false information or a bad dream.
We just received a letter from a woman in Wisconsin who is verifying that this is a sad reality and a major concern to all of us in the pro-life movement. If this is happening in Wisconsin, just across the border from us, what is going on here on a local level at the Rockford abortion mill? We know there is a city alderman who has openly called a peaceful pro-lifer a terrorist; the abortion mill owner has done the same in a recent newspaper article.
Would it be prudent to seek, through the Freedom of Information Act, whether or not any of our pro-life brothers or sisters are being investigated as terrorists? The letter from our associate starts below:
Here is the latest from when I took a stand against the University of Wisconsin Health System’s & Meriter Hospital’s joint venture to establish a late-term abortion center.  I knew security at the last event I attended in Middleton, WI was ridiculous.  They did all but body cavity searches and required everyone to stay in whatever room to which they had been taken.  In addition, we could not leave the room to use the restroom or get a drink of water without being escorted by “security” but I had no idea it was because Homeland Security was involved or that they were investigating the pro-life folks who were there.
I never would have thought that by speaking up against a proposed late term abortion facility, I would be investigated by Homeland Security to determine if I should be placed on a terrorist watch list.  But then considering Obama’s Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano announced shortly after Obama took office that pro-life advocates should be considered a threat to national security, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

A spiritual battle is taking place

Rockford 40 Days For Life

A drama of life and death is being played out during these 40 Days of Lent.

This spiritual battle is taking place on a quiet sidewalk in Rockford in front of a building where over 50,000 children have been killed and the owners mock and ridicule God.

In the first few days of Rockford’s 40 Days for Life this battle is being fought by a woman in a wheel chair who came to pray for six hours.  Buy a four year old boy who’s pro-life mother died. He came with his father as a way of honoring her memory and continuing her pro-life ministry.  People like you and I who come to 1400 Broadway in Rockford to ask God to end the killing of so many children in our city and heal all those wounded by our culture of death.

Please take a look at the on-line vigil schedule  http://www.40daysforlife.com/rockford/  and if you are able fill in an open hour of prayer.  If you have any trouble signing up or have questions please call sue at 815-963-6340 or Lisa 815-914-8220.

The Rockford Labor News building located right next to the abortion facility is open to pro-lifers.  They have pro-life signs you can carry while you pray, a bathroom you can use, and a place to sit and get warm if needed.

Thank you to every person who is praying for life and an end to abortion in Rockford.  May God bless you and your families.

Prayer changes hearts and souls … so please keep praying!

Today’s devotional was prepared by Teresa Burke, executive director of Rachel’s Vineyard ministries.

May the King of the Universe, who entered this world as a helpless infant, give us the humility to behealed.

My power is made perfect in weakness.

— 2 Corinthians 12:9

The great mystery of the Humility of God is very near
and dear to the mission of those serving in pro life
and in a special way, post abortion ministries across
this nation.

For those wounded by their participation in abortion,
the door to healing often feels like crossing an abyss
of great fear: fear of judgment, fear of being torn
apart by the pain, by self hatred and rage at those
who hurt and abandoned you, and manipulated you in
your time of temptation.

For men in particular, entering the unknown waters of
emotional vulnerability, so necessary to healing calls
for a different kind of courage that feels deceptively
like weakness.

The door to healing is humility.

It is born in the inability to no longer control the
pain, to live with the consequences of that tragic
decision to reject life. The hearts cries out, "I have
committed a grave offense against my Creator and I am
consumed by regret, grief and sorrow!"

During these forty days let us pray for all who have
participated in abortion and with love call them to
healing and reconciliation. With healing these women
and men can become as John Paul II proclaimed in the
Gospel of Life, "the most eloquent defenders of
everyone’s right to life."

Jesus proclaimed, "I am the Vine, you are the
branches" (John 15:5). To bear the greatest fruit, the
branches must be pruned. Each level of pruning of the
vine requires a deeper level of humility so that we
can abandon ourselves to His will.

This is not a lofty theological concept as much as it
is an earthy experience of pulling weeds, tilling
rocky soil, pruning and healing the vines. "If a man
wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self,
take up his cross, and begin to follow in my
footsteps" (Matthew 16:24).

Lord, during these forty days, we ask that with each
day of this sacred vigil, everything in us that
separates us from your perfect will would be pruned
from our hearts and souls.

In this blessed freedom may we experience a powerful
anointing of your Holy Spirit. Filled with confidence
and trust may we proclaim with the mother of Jesus,
"Let it be done to me, according to your Word."

Pro-Life Counselor Threatened with Knife

Young Counselor Threatened with Knife Learns that Baby Was Saved from Abortion

By John-Henry Westen
DULUTH, MN, February 17, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Three months after being threatened with a knife to her throat by a woman entering an abortion mill, 21-year-old pro-life counselor Leah Winandy has learned that her attacker has decided not to abort her child – and credits Leah and Leah’s mother for saving her from a life of regret.
Leah Winandy reacted by praising God and expressed her excitement and happiness for Mechelle Talluah Hall, who pled guilty yesterday to second-degree assault.  Under a plea agreement she was placed on probation.
Hall revealed to the Duluth Tribune News that, thanks to the Winandys, she never did go through with the abortion as she had intended.  Hall told reporter Mark Stodghill that she thanked the Winandys for being there.  “If they weren’t there, I probably would have gone through with it and regretted it for the rest of my life. It probably would have gone the other way. I’m sincerely sorry for doing that to her.”
Leah Winandy reacted to the news in an interview with LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) today.  “I was very excited and praising God – this is the work of the Lord,” she said.
Winandy said she forgave Hall for her attack immediately after the incident in late November and bears her no resentment. “I’m so excited for Mechelle that she has her baby,” she said. All Winandy hopes now is that Hall will turn to Christ.
Asked if she would do it over again, Winandy said, “Yes I would because I see that God has used it for good,” she said. “What Satan meant for evil, God used for good.  God’s going to glorify His name.”
Even if things had not turned out so well, if Winandy had been hurt or even killed, that would not have dissuaded her from reaching out in love to Hall, she said. “My life is in God’s hands and I’m not afraid of what happens,” she said.
Winandy concluded by encouraging others to become involved in pro-life counseling.  “I would really encourage other pro-lifers considering counseling just to obey. God said to rescue those that are drawn away to death. We need to obey His commands. He is a voice for those who have no voice.”
Winandy concluded: “He’s going to take care of us. Whether we make that ultimate sacrifice or whatever He calls us to do it’s not too much for His sake and the babies.”

On Wednesday February 17, an estimated ten children were killed inside of Rockford’s abortion mill.  Today was the first day of our Rockford 40 Days for Life campaign.  The tone was set this morning by a woman who arrived to pray at the abortion facility in her wheelchair at 6:30am.  This faithful and brave woman said, "It is hard to be here but well worth it."  She prayed for the lives of unborn children for over two hours in the cold today, along with many other pro-lifers.
The prayers of these witnesses for Christ seemed to have a profound effect.  This abortion mill was closed last Friday so we were expecting a very busy day with up to 20 – 30 abortions.  While the deaths of ten innocent children in our city is a tragedy beyond our comprehension it may have been much worse if so many Christians had not been praying and willing to come out in the cold to offer love, help, and support to mothers in need.
We had many new people come in the afternoon to pray at the mill, even a group from LaSalle-Peru.
Last year during 40 Days for Life someone inside this abortion mill began placing hate-filled signs directed against Jesus Christ, Christians, and 40 Days for Life.  Thankfully because of all the attention by the press on this killing center because of the proposed bubble (death) zone, the new mocking and blasphemous signs they now put up are so small they thankfully can’t be read from the street.
It seems that when the light of public scrutiny is on this abortion mill their bluster shrinks to an incomprehensible and pathetic attack on God and life.

The power of prayer and Jesus Christ will win this spiritual battle against sin, satan, and death.

The mission of Rockford Pro-Life Initiative is to eliminate abortion in the Rockford area through Prayer, Fasting, Education and Personal Sacrifice.

Our Rockford pro-life website has an excellent commentary on the proposed bubble (death) zone.

Big Victories, Babies Saved as 40 Days for Life Kicks Off Campaign
Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
February 17, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Would you believe that 40 Days for Life is just starting, and we’re already hearing about big victories in the days leading up to the campaign?
In Rockford, Illinois, the city council was asked to establish a bubble zone outside the local abortion center — a law that could severely restrict pro-life activity there. The alderman who sponsored the proposal said it was needed immediately — because 40 Days for Life was coming!
The majority of the council thought otherwise, and tabled the proposal for 60 days — which means the 40 Days for Life campaign will not face unreasonable restrictions!
In Riverside, California, the 40 Days for Life kickoff rally took the form of a Jericho march — 250 people marched around the Planned Parenthood facility, praying for an end to abortion.
The excellent turnout is only part of the good news. "Before we even began, a baby was saved!" said Pam, one of the local coordinators in Riverside. Two of the participants met a mother of four who was arriving for an abortion. "They prayed with her and the Holy Spirit came upon her and there were many tears," said Pam.  "She made a decision for life!"
In Syracuse, New York the 40 Days for Life kickoff event was just as enthusiastic — and certainly a lot colder! The group gathered to sing, pray and celebrate victories outside the Planned Parenthood center that is the nation’s oldest free-standing abortion facility.
During the fall 40 Days for Life campaign, Planned Parenthood laid off two employees, one of whom thanked vigil participants for praying — and promised she would never go back into that place again.
In Augusta, Maine, local 40 Days for Life coordinator Janet LeBlanc was joined at the kickoff event by Nicole Peck, who helped launch the first 40 Days for Life efforts in Norwich, Connecticut. The teamwork that 40 Days for Life fosters is really helping this mission spread!
There’s more good news here as well. The abortion center in Augusta, Maine is reporting that it will be losing almost $400,000 in state funding because of budget issues. Janet says people now pray regularly in front of that clinic, and "God has been listening."
Have you signed up to pray at your local 40 Days for Life vigil? If not, please do! If you have, please take another hour! Who knows what blessings will be in store? Here’s the link to the list of participating cities: http://40daysforlife.com/location.cfm
1. Jesus told us, "I assure you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."In the fall campaign of 40 Days for Life over 600 babies lives were saved from abortion because of the prayer and public witness of Christians like you!.
2. Jesus told us, "whatever you do to the least of My people you do unto Me." When we pray at an abortion mill we are praying with Jesus at the foot of the cross.
3. Jesus said, "Let the children come to Me." 40 Days for Life is about real LIFE, real FREEDOM, and real HOPE for mothers and children.
4. Jesus said, "Come to Me all who are weary and I will give you rest." Because of 40 Days for Life reaching out to women and men wounded by abortion countless people have been healed by Christ.
5. Jesus told us somethings can only be overcome by both, "prayer and fasting." Abortion is Satan’s victory over human life…..our prayer and fasting united to Christ turns Satan’s victory into his defeat.
6. Jesus asked the simple question, "will you not spend one hour with Me?" Those who participate in 40 Days for Life do spend an hour with Christ in His garden of agony – an abortion mill.
7. Jesus told us, "love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you." Those who participate in 40 Days for Life pray with love and humility for abortionists and abortion clinic staff. This has led to a number of conversions of abortion clinic personnel.
8. Jesus said, "blessed are the peacemakers; they shall be called the children of God." 40 Days for Life can bring peace to the most violent place in the world today – the womb!!!!
9. Jesus said, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; I tell you they have their angels in heaven, who continually look on the face of My heavenly Father." 40 Days for Life is about helping people not make the decision that will kill a child and possibly kill the life of God in their soul.
10. Jesus said, "whoever humbles himself and becomes like this child will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." 40 Days for Life is about humbling ourselves in imitation of  Jesus Christ with compassion, sacrifice, and love for children, parents, and a city in need.
Spanish Pro-Lifers Deliver More than One Million Signatures against Abortion Law
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman
MADRID, February 16, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Spanish pro-life organizations HazteOir (Make Yourself Heard) and it’s sister organization Derecho a Vivir (Right to Life) have announced the collection of over one million signatures against Spain’s new proposed Abortion Law, which would legalize abortion on demand during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The new law is currently stalled in the Spanish Senate after having been approved in the Congress, which is the nation’s lower legislative body.  A coalition of senators from the People’s Party, the Union of the People of Navarro, and Convergence and Union (Catalonia) have stepped forward to vote to block passage of the bill.
According to HazteOir, the socialist president of the Spanish Congress, Jose Bono, refused to accept the petition, stating through a representative that the its promoters "want to use it politically to wear down the government."
HazteOir and Derecho a Vivir ultimately delivered the signatures to two vice presidents of the Congress elected from the more conservative People’s Party.
Although repeated opinion polls have indicated that Spaniards oppose the new law and would like to see it subjected to a referendum, the PSOE and its allies have insisted on pushing it through.
The text of the petition states that "abortion always brings about the violent death of a human being, and creates a terrible drama for the woman who suffers it, forced by circumstances. … The law of Spain abandons the woman to her problems and pushes her, bereft of solidarity, to abortion. Every ‘abortion law’ is a terrible hypocrisy against women, besides being an atrocious injustice against the children that it leaves unprotected."
Largest-Ever Spring 40 Days for Life Set to Start Wednesday
By James Tillman

February 15, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) — The largest-ever 40 Days for Life spring campaign is set to begin in 165 cities across the globe this Wednesday.

"We have always been amazed at how God shows up when his people pray and fast, when they stand vigil outside of abortion facilities, and when they conduct grassroots outreach," David Bereit, National Campaign Director of 40 Days for Life, told LifeSiteNews.com Monday.  "What we’re most excited about this time is to be amazed once again."

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that works to end abortion through 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil outside of abortion facilities, and community outreach.  "We have seen so many miracles" in past campaigns, Bereit recounted, "from 2,168 babies, that we know of, saved [in] past 40 Days for Life campaigns.   We’ve seen over 300,000 people involved in past 40 Days for Life campaigns.

"We’ve seen five abortion centers closed down following 40 Days for Life campaigns, and 28 abortion workers who have left their jobs as a result of 40 Days for Life."

40 Day for Life began in the fall of 2004, after a pro-life group in Bryan, Texas, prayed for an answer about how to reduce abortion in their area.  The campaign lead to a 28 percent decline in abortions in their community.  Soon the idea caught on in other areas and the first national 40 Days for Life campaign was conducted in the fall of 2007.

Since then, two 40 Days for Life campaigns have been held each year, one in spring and one in fall. The Fall 2009 40 Days for Life campaign became an occasion of special celebration when Abby Johnson, the director of the Bryan Planned Parenthood where the campaign began, experienced a conversion and resigned after watching an abortion on an ultrasound machine.  She is now an active pro-life advocate with 40 Days for life. This spring’s campaign will be conducted not only in the United States, but also in Canada, Northern Ireland, and Australia.

This campaign promises to be the largest spring campaign yet; fall efforts tend to be larger than those in the spring because of colder weather.  Last spring, 135 cities across North America, Canada, Northern Ireland, and Australia participated.

Campaign Links Abortion to Racism

Cutting Edge Media Campaign Links Abortion to Racism

By James Tillman
ATLANTA, GEORGIA, February 15, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) — A controversial new media campaign in Georgia links the racism of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, with the disproportionate numbers of African-American abortions performed in the United States every year.

The campaign features billboards stating that "Black Children are an Endangered Species," and which direct viewers to the website toomanyaborted.com.
"Women are being lied to by … Planned Parenthood," said Ryan Bomberger, founder of the Radiance Foundation, which is sponsoring the ads.  "And that’s what toomanyaborted.com is about.  It’s about exposing these things; using the facts; using Margaret Sanger’s own word’s."
The Radiance Foundation’s aim is “inspire people to live a life of meaning” by helping people realize that all are created with a God-given purpose.
Their website outlines how Margaret Sanger founded the “Negro Project” to reduce the number of African-American births.  It also links her to the eugenics movement, which advocated the sterilization of the unfit and was closely related to racist Nazi ideology.
“Abortions increase where clinics are located and where are those clinics located?" asked Dr. La Verne Tolbert, former board member of Planned Parenthood.  "Ninety-four percent of the clinics are located in urban areas where blacks reside. In my own neighborhood which is an African-American neighborhood in California, there are three abortion clinics strategically located all in the same area.”
Some have accused the ad’s sponsors themselves of racism for targeting a specific demographic group in their attempts to reduce abortions.
"The language in the billboard is using messages of fear and shame to target women of color," said Leola Reis, a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Georgia.
"It’s incredibly offensive," said Heidi Williamson of SisterSong, a pro-abortion health group for African-Americans. "And it’s just horrific to have to drive by it everyday.”
But Bomberger responded that, “This is not a campaign that targets black women. It’s a campaign that exposes an industry that we believe targets African-Americans.”
"We emphasize how abortion is a tragedy, it’s a human issue, it’s not race-specific,” he said on the Laura Ingraham show.  "This campaign was launched, however, because of the extreme disparity in the numbers."
African-Americans accounted for the majority of abortions in Georgia in 2006, although they make up just a third of the state’s population.  Roughly 40% of African-American pregnancies in the United States end in abortion.
“Black children are aborted at three times the rate of all other populations,” said Catherine Davis, Director of Minority Outreach for Georgia Right to Life, which is also sponsoring the ads.  “Georgia leads the country in the number of reported abortions performed on black women, 18,901 in 2008 alone.”
The campaign began with billboards in Dekalb and Fulton counties; according to Catherine Davis, over two-thirds of the abortions in Georgia occur in those two counties.
In related news, last Tuesday Georgia representative Barry Loudermilk introduced the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act.
“This legislation would make it illegal to conduct selective human abortions based on the sex, race or color of a child,” he said.  “It applies the same standards of non-discrimination that is current law regarding employment, education, government and housing, to the practice of human abortion. It also gives the mother the right to seek civil damages against any abortion doctor or clinic who conducts an illegal abortion in the state of Georgia.”
