An estimated 32 human lives were destroyed inside the Northern Illinois Women’s Center this past week;     Sunday, March 28, 2010 marked the end of this years 40 days for life campaign;    Good Friday Stations of the Cross and Rosary at Rockford’s Abortion Mill;     Eugenics in Rockford;     Thoughtful, and Challenging Article On Pro-Life Corner;     Tea Party Express on April 6th in Rockford;     Two Pro-Life Victories For Illinois;     FOCA Is Dead……

On Friday March 26, an estimated 17 children were killed inside the Northern Illinois Women’s Center in Rockford.  This year’s 40 Days for Life had amazing life- saving result, but today showed us the work we still have before us as 17 human beings were intentionally killed in Rockford in much the same way human beings were murdered in Nazi Germany or in a Communist Gulag.

A clear example of how abortion is destroying our society is a young couple who drove into the mill.  When sidewalk counselors offered to help the young mother, the man driving turned his radio up so loudly, we could feel the ground shake. After he got her into the clinic, the father of the child came out and offered not to have his own son or daughter killed if the pro-lifers would pay him $30,000.  What a sad commentary on the value of human life!

Thankfully, we have signs of hope. Two courageous and faith-filled women stood at the driveway this morning with "I regret my abortion" signs.  They were beautiful witnesses of love and the healing power of Jesus Christ.

"there are more things in heaven and earth . . . than are dreamt of in their philosophy"

We have to remember that when a mother arrives at Rockford’s abortion mill, she has already made her mind up to end the life of her child.  She has already spiritually and morally aborted her own baby.  But through the love and grace of Jesus Christ, we have the ability to reach any mother who is even remotely open to truth, life, and love.  We have Jesus Christ and prayer!

Prayer this morning reached the heart of one mother who had an appointment with death for her child………..that appointment was broken.  Because people were praying at this mill, at home, at work, or at Church for life, this child will live.  Because people were offering help to a mother in need,  both mother and child left this place of death alive and well.  Because Christians had faith and answered the call of Jesus Christ, life came out of the shadows of the culture of death in Rockford.

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  St. Paul, Phillipians 4: 6-7

On Wednesday March 31, an estimated 15 human lives were destroyed inside the Northern Illinois Women’s Center.  That’s an interesting name for a place that kills children in a woman’s womb.  We saw one mother in the passenger seat of a car this morning curled up into the fetal position and crying as she was driven into this "women’s center."  Another mother was hiding on the floor of the car as her male companion drove her in to end the life of their son or daughter at this "women’s center."

"Like an animal caught in a trap, trying to gnaw off its own leg, a woman who seeks abortion is trying to escape a desperate situation by an act of violence and self-loss. Abortion is not a sign that women are free, but a sign that they are desperate."  Frederica Mathewes-Green

On the sidewalk outside this clinic, we saw many women who were truly there to help.  Two women who between them have over 50 years experience as pro-life sidewalk counselors were present to help any woman in need this morning.  A group of over 20 young people came from a local Church and prayed on the sidewalks for well over an hour and a half.  This group had many young women and men who truly know what it means to love God and neighbor in the image of Christ.

One good note from this morning was that the Rockford abortion mill removed many of the signs and symbols of hatred from the windows of this clinic today.  We don’t know why they did it.  Possibly they have been embarrassed long enough by the hatred they have displayed, or maybe they have a state inspection coming up.

Sunday, March 28, 2010 marked the end of this years 40 days for life campaign.

Dear Friends,

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and hard work that brought many blessing to our city through this years 40 Days for Life.

13 babies were saved that we know of, the number of abortions was clearly lower than usual during these 40 days.  We saw the power of love and prayer.  We experienced Christians coming together to pray and offer help to those in need.

We won’t fully know in this life the full extent of how God used the faith of people like you to save lives and souls.  But at a time according to God’s will, all will be made known.

May God bless you

 Two Pro-Life Victories For Illinois!

Illinois FOCA is dead for this session and the Illinois’ Parental Notification Law is one step closer to being implemented!
Illinois families had a tremendous victory today when Circuit Court Judge Daniel A. Riley dismissed the ACLU’s legal challenge of the 1995 Illinois Parental Notification Act. Unfortunately, the judge imposed a stay of his decision for 60 days to allow the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) time to file an appeal.  Please keep this parental rights case in your prayers.

For background on this case, click HERE.

"Today’s ruling represents a great step toward ending underage secret abortions in Illinois. This written decision represents the first time an Illinois court has upheld the Parental Notice Act of 1995 against the ACLU’s challenge," said Peter Breen, executive director and legal counsel at the Thomas More Society. "We look forward to the day that abortion providers are made to respect the rights of parents to know before their daughters are taken for abortions."

We are very grateful for our friends at the Thomas More Society who filed an amicus brief in this case.

FOCA Is Dead!

Another huge victory for unborn babies in Illinois, HB 6205 – also known as Illinois FOCA — failed to advance in time for a vote in the House and was sent back to the House Rules Committee, rendering it dead for this session

Background: HB 6205 would have increase taxpayer funded abortions through Medicaid; eliminated the Abortion Right of Conscience Act; and mandated comprehensive sex education for every student in Illinois public schools — kindergarten through 12.

Your calls, letters and emails made an impact and forced legislators to remove their support! Thank you!

Obama’s socialized medicine in motion.

DOCTOR’S ORDERS:N.Y. Times columnist: Death panels will save ‘a lot of money’
Paul Krugman tells ‘Roundtable’ economists agree it’s ‘going to be major’

By Bob Unruh  Left-leaning
New York Times economic columnist Paul Krugman says the so-called "death panels" established by President Obama’s trillion-dollar nationalized health-care plan will end up saving "a lot of money" for the government.
The comments from Krugman, who also writes on the New York Times blogs, came during a discussion of "Obamacare" on the ABC News Sunday program "This Week."

"People on the right, they’re simultaneously screaming, ‘They’re going to send all the old people to death panels,’ and ‘It’s not going to save any money,’" he said.
Another panelist interjected, "Death panels would save money," to which Krugman responded:
The advisory panel which has the ability to make more or less binding judgments on saying this particular expensive treatment actually doesn’t do any good medically and so we are not going to pay for it. That is actually going to save quite a lot of money. We don’t know how much yet. The CBO gives it very little credit but, but most, most of the health care economists I talk to think that’s going be a really, uh a really major cost saving.

The video has been posted on the Conservatives4Palin website, and it was Palin who was among the first to denounce the "death panel" concept in the Democrats’ government-run health care plan. That’s the idea that appointed government officials who under the plan will have access to medical records will determine if a treatment will be provided to a needy patient. Theoretically, that could be a death sentence for a patient denied a treatment.

In the United Kingdom and other nations where such government procedures already are in place, the survival rates for such afflictions as breast cancer or prostate cancer are lower than in the U.S. Critics say it is partly because of denial or delay of treatment.
WND columnist Jane Chastain wrote about the issue shortly before the congressional vote.

"This bill sets up an Independent Medicare Advisory Board, which is to recommend cuts for the sole purpose of limiting the amount of resources going to Medicare patients. Some have called it a ‘Death Panel,’" she wrote.

"You may think this is harsh, but if this bill passes, many seniors will die prematurely because the recommendations of these unelected bureaucrats will go into effect. Congress is not required to act on them!"

"Obama … wants Granny to believe that she will be able to receive that operation or treatment that could save or extend her life. Nothing could be further from the truth! There is a reverse incentive in this bill that actually penalizes Granny’s primary-care physician if he or she is in the top 10 percent of doctors who refer patients to specialists. This puts a wedge between Granny and the doctor she trusts to act in her best interest."

Richard Poe, a New York Times best-selling author, documented in a previous report for WND how the government’s plan to cut health-care costs will, in effect, cut health care itself for some.

"The only question is whose" health care will be cut, Poe wrote. "The numbers make clear that most of these cuts will have to come at the expense of those who need health care the most – the elderly, the disabled and the gravely ill."

He cited Obama’s acknowledgement that "older, sicker societies pay more on health care than younger, healthier ones."

"He is right," Poe wrote. "According to a 2006 study by the Department of Health and Human Services, five percent of the U.S. population accounts for nearly 50 percent of health care spending in America. Who are those five percent? Most are people over 65 years of age with serious, chronic illnesses.

"By contrast, the study notes, half of the U.S. population ‘spends little or nothing on health care… with annual medical spending below $664 per person.’ These, of course, are mostly healthy young people – people without serious, chronic illnesses," Poe wrote.

"Obviously, Obama will not meet his cost-cutting targets by reducing care to healthy young people. They are already spending next to nothing. It is the old, the dying and the chronically ill whose health care he will cut. The numbers make this clear," Poe said.

Some of the "old, the dying and the chronically ill" appear to be catching on. According to a report from Fox News, an estimated 60,000 members of AARP, which endorsed "Obamacare," have turned in their cards and canceled their memberships in recent weeks.

"How will Obama cut costs? His June 13 radio speech gave some hints. Obama said his plan would provide ‘incentives’ to doctors to ‘avoid unnecessary hospital stays, treatments and tests that drive up costs,’" Poe wrote.

"And what sort of treatment does Obama consider ‘unnecessary?’ In an ABC News special June 24, he implied medical treatment might be wasted on elderly people with grave illnesses, citing his own grandmother as an example," he said.

Obama concluded, "Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller."

Poe also documented how such health care limits already are being used overseas, including the U.K., where "British elders are routinely denied treatment for cancer, heart disease and other deadly illnesses."

Further, "death" boards already are operating in Oregon, where officials with the state Health Plan agreed to refuse a patient life-extending cancer drugs but volunteered to pay for her to commit suicide.

He reported Barbara Wagner of Springfield, Ore., was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005. Chemotherapy and radiation put her cancer into remission. But the cancer returned in May 2008.

Wagner’s doctor prescribed Tarceva, a pill which slows cancer growth. There was a good chance it might extend her life by a few weeks or even months.

At age 64, Wagner had two sons, three daughters, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Every moment she could spend with her loved ones was precious, he noted.

But Oregon’s health officials nixed the plan. Her Tarceva treatment would cost $4,000 per month. Wagner was going to die anyway, so why waste the money?

Physician-assisted suicide is legal in Oregon and costs only about $50.

Removal of Grotesque Signs at Rockford Abortion Mill

Prayers and Public Pressure Result In Removal of Grotesque Bigoted Signs at Rockford Abortion Mill

Jesus Said: "Woe to you you hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence. Blind persons, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean."   Matthew 23

Rockford IL, March 31, 2010 - The citizens of Rockford Illinois have had to endure years of the most vicious anti-Christian, anti-Life, and perverse signs imaginable that have littered the windows of the Northern Illinois Woman’s Center building.  From rubber chickens hanging on nooses that have offended African Americans, to signs attacking people with disabilities, signs celebrating the deaths of aborted babies as a victory over Jesus, even grotesque things done with pictures of Jesus Himself.

Because people like you have been praying and exposing this evil to the public it appears today, for the first time in over ten years, the Rockford abortion mill building took down their hate filled signs.  The public pressure and embarrassment must have been getting to them and thankfully they have removed most of the offensive signs and pictures.

The Rockford mill made national news when an African American child’s life was saved because her grandfather saw a rubber chicken hanging by a noose in the clinic window and was offended.  This clinic and it’s workers were also embarrassed nationally when a picture was placed in the clinic building windows of Jesus giving the people of Rockford the finger.

Not only nationally but locally, when pro-lifers have spoken with Rockford residents and elected officials about the bigotry displayed by this clinic then shown the documented years of aberrant, sickening pictures and signs in the clinic building, people clearly saw through the facade of "choice."  They were able to clearly see abortion in Rockford for what it really is – the demonic inspired murder of children in the womb.  This Rockford abortion facility has made that perfectly clear to people throughout this country and in the community.

Will the embarrassment they have caused themselves and Rockford keep future deviant signs, symbols, and pictures out of the windows of the Rockford killing center?  Who knows.

The one thing we do know for sure is that as long as children are killed inside this building Christians will pray and work for Jesus Christ - "The Way, the Truth, the Resurrection, and the LIFE."

Is Pope Complicit in Cover-Up?

Accusations that Pope Complicit in Abuse Cover-Up Fall Flat
By James Tillman
March 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Since the New York Times attempted to connect Pope Benedict XVI with the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, pundits have not let up on the pressure on the pontiff.

Christopher Hitchens wrote recently that Benedict XVI’s "whole career has the stench of evil," joining a host of pundits that have attacked him over the abuse crisis, and even called for his resignation.  Yet according to defenders of the pope, the noise caused by the three primary claims brought against Benedict is exceeded only by the paucity of the evidence for them.
The first claim, as stated by Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, is that then-Cardinal Ratzinger "ignored repeated warnings and looked away in the case of the Rev. Lawrence C. Murphy, a Wisconsin priest who molested as many as 200 deaf boys."
According to renowned commentator and Catholic priest Fr. Raymond D. de Souza, however, the article that made these claims is "unsupported by its own documentation."

Father Lawrence C. Murphy left St. John’s School for the Deaf in the Milwaukee Archdiocese in 1974, after accusations of sexual abuse.  He was granted a "temporary sick leave" and moved by Archbishop William E. Counsins to the Diocese of Superior in northern Wisconsin.  In 1993, then-Archbishop Rembert Weakland of Milwaukee oversaw an investigation in which Fr. Murphy admitted to sexual contact with nineteen boys.  He did not write to Cardinal Ratzinger, however, until 1996.

"Under canon law at the time," writes Fr. de Souza, "the principal responsibility for sexual-abuse cases lay with the local bishop. Archbishop Weakland had from 1977 onwards the responsibility of administering penalties to Father Murphy. He did nothing until 1996."

"It was at that point that Cardinal Ratzinger’s office became involved, and it subsequently did nothing to impede the local process."
Archbishop Weakland himself was, as de Souza writes, “widely known for mishandling sexual-abuse cases during his tenure, and guilty of using $450,000 of archdiocesan funds to pay hush money to a former homosexual lover who was blackmailing him.”

Despite its late start, preparation for Fr. Murphy’s trial continued through 1997. In January of 1998 Fr. Murphy wrote to Cardinal Ratzinger, asking that, in light of his poor health and recent stroke, he be permitted to end his days in peace.  Cardinal Ratzinger’s deputy, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, suggested that the Bishop of Superior drop the judicial proceeding in favor of more pastoral measures, but his suggestion was rejected.
In August of 1998 the Archdiocese of Milwaukee ruled that it would abate the judicial process in favor of administrative action.  The next month Father Murphy died.

"To repeat," writes Fr. de Souza, "the charge that Cardinal Ratzinger did anything wrong is unsupported by the documentation on which the story was based.

"He does not appear in the record as taking any decision. His office, in the person of his deputy, Archbishop Bertone, agreed that there should be full canonical trial. When it became apparent that Father Murphy was in failing health, Archbishop Bertone suggested more expeditious means of removing him from any ministry."

"The New York Times flatly got the story wrong, according to its own evidence. Readers may want to speculate on why."
The second major charge brought against the Pope involves Fr. Peter Hullerman from the German Diocese of Essen, who was accused of abusing boys in 1979.  According to Christopher Hitchens, however, the "cleric was transferred from Essen to Munich for ‘therapy’ by a decision of then-Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger, and assurances were given that he would no longer have children in his care."  Tragically, Father Hullerman was later returned to the ministry and continued to abuse boys.

Debate has swirled over whether Archbishop Ratzinger knew that Father Hullerman was to be reassigned to pastoral work.
"It is certain that Archbishop Ratzinger knew that Hullerman had sexually assaulted children in Essen and that he was living in Church premises while undergoing therapy in Munich," writes Sean Murphy on the Catholic Education Resource Center website.  "This would not have been out of order, since, at the time, it was believed that therapy could be effective in curing sex offenders."

But it was the Vicar-General of the Munich Archdiocese, Mgr. Gerhard Gruber, and not Cardinal Ratzinger, who permitted Father Hullerman to return to pastoral work.  Mgr. Gerhard Gruber has stated that the pope was not aware of his decision.

The Vatican has confirmed this statement, saying that "the then archbishop [Ratzinger] had no knowledge of the decision to reassign Father H[ullerman] to pastoral activities in a parish."

"The then vicar general, Msgr. Gerhard Gruber, has assumed full responsibility for his own erroneous decision to reassign Father H[ullerman] to pastoral activity."

Some have argued that Archbishop Ratzinger must have been informed of the decision because he was close-copied on a memo informing him of the decision.  Mgr. Gruber, however, has said that because the diocese was so large at the time, having many hundreds of priests and thousands of religious, Archbishop Ratzinger left many decisions to lower-level officials; there is no clear evidence to show he would have read the memo.

"The cardinal could not deal with everything,” Mgr. Gruber said.

The third accusation, as raised by Hitchens, is that as the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in 2001, Cardinal Ratzinger forbade "the investigation of child rape and torture by Catholic priests."

"Any sharing of the evidence with legal authorities or the press was utterly forbidden," Hitchens states. "Charges were to be investigated ‘in the most secretive way … restrained by a perpetual silence … and everyone … is to observe the strictest secret which is commonly regarded as a secret of the Holy Office … under the penalty of excommunication.’"

Yet the quotation Hitchens offers is not even from the May 2001 letter from the CDF, but rather from a 1962 directive, Crimen Sollicitationis.  This document, as Sean Murphy writes, was so far from demanding the concealment of such crimes that it imposed "the automatic excommunication of anyone who knowingly failed to do so."

Many Catholic leaders and defenders of the pope have pointed out the irony that the accusations of such as Hitchens and the Times are directed against the man who has perhaps done more than anyone else to combat sexual abuse in the Church.

"No one has been more vigorous in cleansing the Church of the effects of this sickening sin than the man we now call Pope Benedict XVI," said Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York last Sunday.

"The dramatic progress that the Catholic Church in the United States has made — documented again just last week by the report made by independent forensic auditors — could never have happened without the insistence and support of the very man now being daily crowned with thorns by groundless innuendo."

George Weigel wrote similarly. “The Times’ descent into tabloid sourcing and innuendo was …  offensive because of recent hard news developments that underscore Pope Benedict’s determination to root out what he once described as the ‘filth’ in the Church,” he said.

“It ought not be beyond the capacity of other media outlets to understand that much of the Times’ recent reporting on the Church has been gravely distorted, and to treat it accordingly. “

Setting the record straight in the case of abusive Milwaukee priest Father Lawrence Murphy
Then-presiding judge for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee gives first-person account of church trial
By Fr. THOMAS BRUNDAGE, JLC
For CatholicAnchor.org

To provide context to this article, I was the Judicial Vicar for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee from 1995-2003. During those years, I presided over four canonical criminal cases, one of which involved Father Lawrence Murphy. Two of the four men died during the process. God alone will judge these men.

To put some parameters on the following remarks, I am writing this article with the express knowledge and consent of Archbishop Roger Schwietz, OMI, the Archbishop of Anchorage, where I currently serve. Archbishop Schwietz is also the publisher of the Catholic Anchor newspaper.

I will limit my comments, because of judicial oaths I have taken as a canon lawyer and as an ecclesiastical judge. However, since my name and comments in the matter of the Father Murphy case have been liberally and often inaccurately quoted in the New York Times and in more than 100 other newspapers and on-line periodicals, I feel a freedom to tell part of the story of Father Murphy’s trial from ground zero.
As I have found that the reporting on this issue has been inaccurate and poor in terms of the facts, I am also writing out of a sense of duty to the truth.

The fact that I presided over this trial and have never once been contacted by any news organization for comment speaks for itself.
My intent in the following paragraphs is to accomplish the following:
To tell the back-story of what actually happened in the Father Murphy case on the local level;
To outline the sloppy and inaccurate reporting on the Father Murphy case by the New York Times and other media outlets;
To assert that Pope Benedict XVI has done more than any other pope or bishop in history to rid the Catholic Church of the scourge of child sexual abuse and provide for those who have been injured;
To set the record straight with regards to the efforts made by the church to heal the wounds caused by clergy sexual misconduct. The Catholic Church is probably the safest place for children at this point in history.

Before proceeding, it is important to point out the scourge that child sexual abuse has been — not only for the church but for society as well. Few actions can distort a child’s life more than sexual abuse. It is a form of emotional and spiritual homicide and it starts a trajectory toward a skewed sense of sexuality. When committed by a person in authority, it creates a distrust of almost anyone, anywhere.

As a volunteer prison chaplain in Alaska, I have found a corollary between those who have been incarcerated for child sexual abuse and the priests who have committed such grievous actions. They tend to be very smart and manipulative. They tend to be well liked and charming. They tend to have one aim in life — to satisfy their hunger. Most are highly narcissistic and do not see the harm that they have caused. They view the children they have abused not as people but as objects. They rarely show remorse and moreover, sometimes portray themselves as the victims. They are, in short, dangerous people and should never be trusted again. Most will recommit their crimes if given a chance.

As for the numerous reports about the case of Father Murphy, the back-story has not been reported as of yet.
In 1996, I was introduced to the story of Father Murphy, formerly the principal of St. John’s School for the Deaf in Milwaukee. It had been common knowledge for decades that during Father Murphy’s tenure at the school (1950-1974) there had been a scandal at St. John’s involving him and some deaf children. The details, however, were sketchy at best.

Courageous advocacy on behalf of the victims (and often their wives), led the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to revisit the matter in 1996. In internal discussions of the curia for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, it became obvious that we needed to take strong and swift action with regard to the wrongs of several decades ago. With the consent of then-Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert Weakland, we began an investigation into the allegations of child sexual abuse as well as the violation of the crime of solicitation within the confessional by Father Murphy.

We proceeded to start a trial against Father Murphy. I was the presiding judge in this matter and informed Father Murphy that criminal charges were going to be levied against him with regard to child sexual abuse and solicitation in the confessional.
In my interactions with Father Murphy, I got the impression I was dealing with a man who simply did not get it. He was defensive and threatening.

Between 1996 and August, 1998, I interviewed, with the help of a qualified interpreter, about a dozen victims of Father Murphy. These were gut-wrenching interviews. In one instance the victim had become a perpetrator himself and had served time in prison for his crimes. I realized that this disease is virulent and was easily transmitted to others. I heard stories of distorted lives, sexualities diminished or expunged. These were the darkest days of my own priesthood, having been ordained less than 10 years at the time. Grace-filled spiritual direction has been a Godsend.

I also met with a community board of deaf Catholics. They insisted that Father Murphy should be removed from the priesthood and highly important to them was their request that he be buried not as a priest but as a layperson. I indicated that a judge, I could not guarantee the first request and could only make a recommendation to the latter request.

In the summer of 1998, I ordered Father Murphy to be present at a deposition at the chancery in Milwaukee. I received, soon after, a letter from his doctor that he was in frail health and could travel not more than 20 miles (Boulder Junction to Milwaukee would be about 276 miles). A week later, Father Murphy died of natural causes in a location about 100 miles from his home
With regard to the inaccurate reporting on behalf of the New York Times, the Associated Press, and those that utilized these resources, first of all, I was never contacted by any of these news agencies but they felt free to quote me. Almost all of my quotes are from a document that can be found online with the correspondence between the Holy See and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. In an October 31, 1997 handwritten document, I am quoted as saying ‘odds are that this situation may very well be the most horrendous, number wise, and especially because these are physically challenged , vulnerable people. “ Also quoted is this: “Children were approached within the confessional where the question of circumcision began the solicitation.”

The problem with these statements attributed to me is that they were handwritten. The documents were not written by me and do not resemble my handwriting. The syntax is similar to what I might have said but I have no idea who wrote these statements, yet I am credited as stating them. As a college freshman at the Marquette University School of Journalism, we were told to check, recheck, and triple check our quotes if necessary. I was never contacted by anyone on this document, written by an unknown source to me. Discerning truth takes time and it is apparent that the New York Times, the Associated Press and others did not take the time to get the facts correct.

Additionally, in the documentation in a letter from Archbishop Weakland to then-secretary of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone on August 19, 1998, Archbishop Weakland stated that he had instructed me to abate the proceedings against Father Murphy. Father Murphy, however, died two days later and the fact is that on the day that Father Murphy died, he was still the defendant in a church criminal trial. No one seems to be aware of this. Had I been asked to abate this trial, I most certainly would have insisted that an appeal be made to the supreme court of the church, or Pope John Paul II if necessary. That process would have taken months if not longer.

Second, with regard to the role of then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI), in this matter, I have no reason to believe that he was involved at all. Placing this matter at his doorstep is a huge leap of logic and information.

Third, the competency to hear cases of sexual abuse of minors shifted from the Roman Rota to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith headed by Cardinal Ratzinger in 2001. Until that time, most appeal cases went to the Rota and it was our experience that cases could languish for years in this court. When the competency was changed to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in my observation as well as many of my canonical colleagues, sexual abuse cases were handled expeditiously, fairly, and with due regard to the rights of all the parties involved. I have no doubt that this was the work of then Cardinal Ratzinger.

Fourth, Pope Benedict has repeatedly apologized for the shame of the sexual abuse of children in various venues and to a worldwide audience. This has never happened before. He has met with victims. He has reigned in entire conferences of bishops on this matter, the Catholic Bishops of Ireland being the most recent. He has been most reactive and proactive of any international church official in history with regard to the scourge of clergy sexual abuse of minors. Instead of blaming him for inaction on these matters, he has truly been a strong and effective leader on these issues.

Finally, over the last 25 years, vigorous action has taken place within the church to avoid harm to children. Potential seminarians receive extensive sexual-psychological evaluation prior to admission. Virtually all seminaries concentrate their efforts on the safe environment for children. There have been very few cases of recent sexual abuse of children by clergy during the last decade or more.
Catholic dioceses all across the country have taken extraordinary steps to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults. As one example, which is by no means unique, is in the Archdiocese of Anchorage, where I currently work. Here, virtually every public bathroom in parishes has a sign asking if a person has been abuse by anyone in the church. A phone number is given to report the abuse and almost all church workers in the archdiocese are required to take yearly formation sessions in safe environment classes. I am not sure what more the church can do.

To conclude, the events during the 1960’s and 1970’s of the sexual abuse of minors and solicitation in the confessional by Father Lawrence Murphy are unmitigated and gruesome crimes. On behalf of the church, I am deeply sorry and ashamed for the wrongs that have been done by my brother priests but realize my sorrow is probably of little importance 40 years after the fact. The only thing that we can do at this time is to learn the truth, beg for forgiveness, and do whatever is humanly possible to heal the wounds. The rest, I am grateful, is in God’s hands.

If you have been reading in the news about the unjust and deceitful attacks on Pope Benedict this article will clarify the truth.
On Tuesday, March 30, Catholic League President Bill Donohue will appear on CNN’s
“Larry King Live” to discuss the pope and his handling of recent allegations.
The show airs at 9 pm ET.

NYT UNFAIRLY CITES POPE’S ROLE
Catholic League president Bill Donohue criticizes an op-ed article and a news story in the New York Times about Pope Benedict XVI’s role in the case of Fr. Lawrence Murphy:

In yesterday’s Times, columnist Maureen Dowd said that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now the pope, "ignored repeated warnings and looked away in the case of the Rev. Lawrence C. Murphy, a Wisconsin priest who molested as many as 200 deaf boys." Wrong. Her own newspaper said it has no evidence that he even knew of letters that reached his office in 1996 about this matter.

Today’s edition of the Times has a news story which says that Ratzinger "did not defrock a priest who molested scores of deaf boys in the United States, despite warnings by American bishops about the danger of failure to act, according to church files." Wrong. Besides the fact that there is no evidence he even knew of the case, his office actually lifted the statute of limitations—the abuse took place in the 50s and 60s—and began an investigation. Murphy died while the inquiry was proceeding.

It is one thing for pundits to play fast and loose and ignore the evidence. It is doubly distressing when those who write for the New York Times do so. While this may come as a shocker to the Times, no priest can be defrocked until he is found guilty. If the inquiry was on-going when Murphy died, there is no way he could have been defrocked.

This is particularly disgusting given that the Times is ever so sensitive about the civil liberties rights of accused jihadists.

HYSTERIA MARKS POPE’S CRITICS

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the pope’s critics:

Seldom have I seen such delirium over an innocent man, namely Pope Benedict XVI. Christopher Hitchens, the rabid atheist, wants to know why the European Union is allowing the pope to travel freely. Perhaps he wants the pope handcuffed at the Vatican and brought to the guillotine. Margery Eagan of the Boston Herald, another big fan of the Catholic Church, says, "The Pope should resign." One looks in vain for a single sentence that implicates his guilt in anything. Then we have the Washington Post indicting priests by painting all of them as child abusers in a cartoon. There are many other examples of this kind of hysteria.

As indicated in our New York Times op-ed page ad today, the pope is innocent. Indeed, he is being framed. No one has any evidence that he even knew of the case of Father Lawrence Murphy. Indeed, his office didn’t find out until 1996 and then it did the right thing by summoning an investigation (it could have simply dropped an inquiry given that the statute of limitations had run out). No matter, the pope’s harshest critics are blaming him for not defrocking a man whom he may never have heard of, and in any event was entitled to a presumption of innocence. Or was he? There are not just a few who would deny civil liberties protections to priests.

It is a sad day when al-Qaeda suspects are afforded more rights than priests. That this kind of intellectual thuggery should emanate from those who fancy themselves tolerant and fair-minded makes the sham all the more despicable.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue accuses MSNBC of libeling Pope Benedict XVI:

Go to the home page of MSNBC and click on "World News." From there click on "Americas." Next click on the article, "Losing Their Religion? Catholicism in Turmoil." Scroll down and in the "Click for Related Content" section there is an article entitled, "Pope Describes Touching Boys: I Went Too Far." Clicking on this piece takes the reader to an article about a homosexual German priest who had sex with males in the 1980s. It says absolutely nothing about the pope. Yet MSNBC paints Pope Benedict XVI as a child molester in the tease to the article.

A retraction, and a sincere apology, are in order. They should also investigate how this happened and who is responsible.

NBC APOLOGIZES FOR MSNBC’S HIT ON POPE

NBC apologized today for an article on MSNBC’s website entitled, “Pope Describes Touching Boys: I Went Too Far.” The article that readers accessed after clicking on it actually had nothing to do with the pope.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue accepted the apology today:

NBC says the attributed quote was erroneous and they have corrected the error. An apology was also extended. The apology is accepted. We hope that whoever was responsible for this outrageous post is questioned about it and that appropriate measures are taken. We look forward to hearing the outcome.

Another win for the Thomas More Society – and children

Court Vindicates Illinois Law against Secret Abortions for Minors

By Peter J. Smith
CHICAGO, March 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An Illinois state judge has dismissed a case launched by the American Civil Liberties Union challenging the constitutionality of the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act, moving the law one step closer to full implementation.

Judge Daniel Riley of Cook County Court ruled that the 1970 Illinois State Constitution does include a right to abortion, but he said the law should stand, since the Illinois right to abortion is not broader than the federal right, thereby allowing for certain restrictions.
The Parental Notice of Abortion Act requires that one parent or legal guardian must be notified 48 hours in advance when a minor aged seventeen or younger seeks an abortion.
“Today’s ruling represents a great step toward ending underage secret abortions in Illinois. This written decision represents the first time an Illinois court has upheld the Parental Notice Act of 1995 against the ACLU’s challenge,” said Peter Breen, executive director and legal counsel at the Thomas More Society. “We look forward to the day that abortion providers are made to respect the rights of parents to know before their daughters are taken for abortions.”

The Thomas More Society had argued that abortion was virtually illegal in Illinois under the 1970 state constitution and thus ruled out a right to an abortion.

Thomas More Society Attorneys were present as “Friends of the Court” for the decision, and say that if the ACLU attempts to appeal, they will renew their request to intervene in the case and once again argue that the Illinois Constitution does not include a right to abortion.

Judge Riley issued a stay on his order, giving 60 days before the law will go into effect, in case the ACLU wanted to file an appeal, which it is expected to do.

The ACLU had intervened in court to strike down the law in November 2009, on the very day when the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995 was finally supposed to go into full effect. The Illinois Medical Disciplinary Board and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation had decided to enforce without further delay the pro-life law, which had been in legal limbo for nearly 15 years while various constitutional issues were hashed out.

Since the passage of the Parental Notice of Abortion Act in 1995, over 50,000 Illinois girls below the age of majority have obtained abortions, more than 4,000 of whom were 14 years old or younger, without any requirement to notify their parents beforehand.

Announcement

Dear Friends,

Thank you to all of you for your prayers and hard work that brought many blessing to our city through this years 40 Days for Life.

But at a time according to God’s will all will be made known.

 May God bless you

Truth empties churches, it doesn't fill them

Christian Pimps!
By Coach Dave Daubenmire"Christianity started in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise. " -Sam Pascoe

"An enterprise. That’s a business. "After a few moments Martha, the youngest student in the class, raised her hand. I could not imagine what her question might be. I thought the little vignette was self-explanatory, and that I had performed it brilliantly. Nevertheless, I acknowledged Martha’s raised hand, "Yes, Martha. " She asked such a simple question, "A business? But isn’t it supposed to be a body?" I could not envision where this line of questioning was going, and the only response I could think of was, "Yes. " She continued, "But when a body becomes a business, isn’t that a prostitute?" as told by David Ryser

I’ve been fighting for a long time the prompting of my inner man to take on this subject. I have been a sellout. A pimp , if you will. Not on purpose. It is easy to justify our lack of courage when confronted with difficult issues. I try to faithfully deliver the mail as the Lord hands it to me.

You see, I have pulled my punches. I have softened the blow. I have spanked with a newspaper when they deserved a belt. I have sold out on the Truth. I have not called a spade a spade. I have taken the be-nice approach and have listened to the "touch not God’s anointed" mentality. I have prostituted the Truth. For that I am sorry.

Oh, my intentions were good. I had hoped that as I exposed the "unfruitful works of darkness" that the churches would eventually awaken and begin to push back against the enemy. After ten years of trying to awaken "The Church" to the problem I have finally mustered the courage to say what I have known all along. "The Church" IS the problem. It has become a pimp, selling the works of "the body" for personal satisfaction. Most of the pulpits are filled by "hirelings" (more on that in a future commentary), men and women who stand in the pulpit without a calling, without an anointing, and without courage. They are man pleasers, living off of "the Body" as they sell it out for their own whims and pleasures. Greedy Dogs, Isaiah called them. Blind watchmen.. .loving to sleep.. .leading the flock astray.

Not all of the churches. If you are a pastor and have read this far then I am probably not talking about you. I have met many courageous men who boldly live out the command to "lead them out." You know who you are. You are the ones who have been criticized, belittled, and called names by the "pimp in the pulpit" at the big church downtown.
You see, to him, the church is a business…an enterprise…a social club totally dependent on butts and bucks. It is a place to make business contacts, network with others in the community, and soothe one’s conscience through weekly attendance and philanthropy. It is no different from a whore house where a woman’s body is sold for the pleasure of another. Love-less intercourse is prostitution. Most church goers love the service that Jesus provides (membership has its privileges) but don’t really know the Jesus who provides it.

.I’ll be honest. I’ve been afraid to say some of these things for fear of alienating even more pastors. I was afraid that my harshness might alienate those "frozen chosen" pastors and eliminate opportunities to "minister" to their congregations. That’s where I have pimped-out my call. The pastors are not the answer, they are the problem.

Instead of cleaning out Congress perhaps we should start by cleaning out the pulpit. Judgment begins first in the house of God. America is a reflection of the churches and the churches are a reflection of the pulpits. It is time to "throw the bums out"…even if they do hide behind the "touch not my anointed." When a football team is under-performing who gets the boot? Yep, the coach.

Allow me to be frank and cut to the chase. Pick up your family and get out of the mausoleum you are attending and find a place that serves the Lord. I couldn’t care less how many generations your family has been a member, how many pews your family has donated, and how many of your friends attend. Sitting on your butt every Sunday is not serving the Lord, it is the Lord serving you. The feel-good Gospel is a fraud. Jesus taught self-sacrifice not self-fulfillment. "Greater love has no man than this, that he would lay down his life for his friends…." Love demands sacrifice. What have you sacrificed for your faith? You are engaging in Spiritual welfare…living off of the efforts of others.

Start fighting back by no longer giving them your money. Don’t allow them to hit you over the “bring all of the tithes into the storehouse” hammer without asking yourself
some very important questions. What is a storehouse and what is its purpose? What does the Scripture mean by "meat in my house" and who is the meat for? Are there families in your "church" who are losing their homes? Is that not who the "meat in the house" was stored up for or were the storehouse funds used for a new parking lot?

Is the purpose of the tithe to pay senior pastors, associate pastors, youth ministers, worship leaders, and secretaries to do "ministry?" Can’t you "tithe" different places? Did the New Testament church teach the concept of "professional" Christians or were the elders of the church also tent-makers ? Does "meat in my house" mean bigger buildings, paved parking lots, and padded pews? Is your "church" experiencing a budget crunch right now because they have eaten the meat that should have been placed in the storehouse? I know, "let them eat blacktop."
Is storehouse money supposed to be spent on the already converted or on seeking and saving that which is lost? What percent of your church’s budget go to "missions"… as if that is a separate job…in comparison to utilities, paper, salaries, and operating expenses?

Don’t stop giving, just change where you give. Find a ministry that is using the money to reach out to the community and send your tithe there. Remember, it is the "Lord’s house" into which your finances are to be offered….not some social club to which your tithe is nothing more than monthly dues. It is time you asked yourself if the Spirit still dwells in your church.
My wife and I have spent the last few weeks reading the book of Acts in our morning devotionals. You should do the same. They spread the Gospel around the world at great personal peril and sacrifice. The self-serving American-Church is a pathetic step-child to Christianity’s founding fathers.

Most churches love money, chase money, compromise over money. A pastor in New York was just fired from his $600,000 salary! The national average for pastors is $84,426! No wonder they won’t speak against sin! Why not include those wealthy homosexuals in the congregation!

People have asked me to start a church. I tell them that they are nuts. Truth empties churches, it doesn’t fill them. My friend Flip Benham says guys like me would be the Dr. Kervorkian of church growth. What man of God would want to wipe noses when he could fight evil? No thanks. At least on the streets I can recognize the enemy. Funny isn’t it? The pimps in the pulpits accuse street preachers of being undignified.

Talk the talk, walk the walk

Preaching to the Choir?
Often we question whether we are "preaching to the choir", but apparently, the choir is either deaf or is listening to a different drummer.

See, if the majority of Americans who claim to be "Believers", which translates into 265 million Americans-87% of 305 million, how have we failed so miserably to impact our culture? It is the only reason we publish this newsletter as are other publications sounding the alarm for years!

"Believers" are content to simply "talk the talk", rather than "walk the walk". Is it any wonder that politicians don’t take us seriously, even though we are the majority? Any reason Corporate America doesn’t take us seriously. They know that less than one percent [the remnant] is willing to boycott companies that don’t support moral values.
Is it any wonder the media does not take us seriously? Even though the major newspapers are anti-life, anti-God and anti-family, "Believers" continue to subscribe and pay their salaries for attacking our faith and core values. So it is also with TV networks. They know that "Believers" are watching just as much sex and violence on TV as non-believers, so they keep producing them with your money!

We have the power, but the great majority of "Believers" would rather enjoy the pleasures and temptations of this fallen world, rather than sacrifice in changing this culture for our children and grandchildren.

Chuck Baldwin writes in "Good for Nothing Christians" that Jesus viewed His disciples as being the salt of society. In other words, when believers have the character they should have, they provide the preservation of the land. They hold back and retard the putrefying properties of spoilage and decay. But when Christians lose their character, when they lose the internal resistance to decay, they become "good for nothing" and the result is, the land is "trodden under foot of men."

Our churches are mirrors of it: the same dress; the same attitudes; the same carnality; the same spirit; the same stubbornness; the same pride. Churches are no longer bastions of truth: they are glorified social clubs or mere corporations, where Christianity is never allowed to interfere with business. Instead of being watchmen on the wall, our pastors are CEOs or, even worse, politicians. Popularity and personal ambition far outweigh commitment to truth and an independent mind.
We have a pandemic of spineless Christianity. Parents who cannot stand up to their own children; pastors who cannot stand up to their own congregations; religious leaders who cannot stand up to politicians; and churches that cannot stand up to unconstitutional government.

If one is looking to blame America’s demise on, don’t look to the prostitutes, drug dealers, or crooked politicians: look no further than the doorsteps of America’s churches. Our churches are content to play kid games and wallow in their own materialism and laziness. I realize there are exceptions to the rule, of course, but they are few and far between.

Conviction has been replaced with compromise, and popularity has replaced principle. Truth has been replaced with entertainment, and calls for repentance are drowned out by the clamor for prosperity theology.Chuck   Colson   says   that   "the culture is the church incarnate". In    other    words,    the    culture reflects what the church teaches.
Coach Dave Daubenmire says that "America is a reflection of the churches and the churches are a reflection of the pulpits". To that we add that the pulpits reflect the "Pewsitters" who are content to listen to useless babble with no conviction, growing lazy and apathetic, oblivious, as the world collapse around us.

We are the enemy as we have done absolutely nothing to stop the killing in over 37 years. We see a minority of homosexuals and lesbians yield so much power, that if we dare quote the Bible on the abomination and sin of homosexuality, it’s a hate crime!
"Believers" continue to idle while every vestige of God is taken from our public arena and schools. We wonder why. We are the enemy and God knows, we could reverse this, if only we got off our duffs and engage the culture. It really is that simple. Are you willing or will you have to answer to God???

What goes around, comes around

Abortion Has Lead To Euthanasia & Physician Assisted Suicide
We Are All At Risk!

The old saying that "what goes around, comes around" is proving true in many hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. In fact, though Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide is not yet legal in this country, it is being passively administered on a regular basis. The peddlers of death refer to it as "compassionate care".

For all who have sat back and watch the abortion battle from a distance, without lifting a finger or uttering a word to stop the bloodshed, will confront the same mentality on their sick or death beds. For over 35 years, we have allowed the wanton killing of the most innocent and defenseless among us, knowing well, the politicians who support these killings, knowing well that corporations that fund and support the killers, yet most go about their lives without a second thought!

For over 35 years, we have allowed this "culture of death" to permeate our culture, that killing the defenseless, whether in the womb or the elderly, has become a way of life. There is no indication that it will get any better, as more baby boomers age, and workers are forced to contribute more into Social Security, while health insurance companies force doctors to euthanize patients for the obvious financial reasons, we are all at risk!

If you have been "passively pro-life" not ever wanting to "rock the boat" or upset anyone, get ready for those who may seem ready and willing to help usher you out of this world. Too many of us have given up the pro-life fight to be "politically correct". Make no mistake, the death merchants are on the move and the elderly and handicapped are in the crosshairs. The next person nominated for the poisonous cocktail or the lethal morphine drip may be you or one of your loved ones. No one is secure as a "compassionate" doctor or hospital ethics board may make the decision for you. Just as the innocent and defenseless babies in the womb, the defenseless elderly are being targeted. No one is safe!

No, dear brothers and sisters, it is not our intention to use scare tactics to get others involved in the pro-life arena. The fact is, Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide is on the increase, and though you may not read about in your local paper or watch it on the nightly news, know that it is alive and well here in the US!

It is never too late to get involved. God is a merciful Father, who will bless our efforts for His greater good. Get involved, understand the threat that is looming, not just for your life, but for others as well. There are so many resources available on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. Find out which elected officials support the culture of death. Get busy writing letters and know before you vote. Consider also the companies that fund and support the killing of innocent babies. Know that they will just as easily fund Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. Death is death, no matter what age, and the culture has begun calling our elderly "greedy geezers" and "useless eaters". They have also stated that the elderly have a "right to die" so that they do not become a burden on our health care.

"He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it"
