Documentary Gives Pornography A Human Face

( – 7-31-2011 –  by Staff – Film to be shown at World Youth Day.  Why draw attention to a documentary about pornography on a pro-life website?  We are concerned with life issues from conception to natural death.   Certainly the enslavement of men and women to the addictiveness of pornography would warrant our concern.  The promotion of pornography leads to promiscuity, which leads to unplanned pregnancy, which leads to the world’s so-called quick fix which is abortion on demand.  There is no way to tell how big the problem of pornography is as it relates to abortion.  Perhaps some of our readers might share with us their thoughts.  Read first the article below and then if you have any thoughts or comments as to how pornography and abortion are related please use our comment section.

Documentary Gives Pornography a Human Face
Film to Show at World Youth Day
By Andrea Kirk Assaf
ROME, JULY 29, 2011 ( The "digital age" generation flocking to Madrid for World Youth Day in a couple week’s time will be made aware of one of the darker sides of digital culture: the flourishing business of Internet pornography.
Thanks to an award-winning documentary created by Anteroom Pictures in New York City, the pornography industry will be exposed and analyzed before the young audience.
"Out of the Darkness" features the story of Shelley Lubben, a former sex worker and porn star who left that life behind and converted to Christianity.
The film, winner of the Mystery of Love award at the 2011 John Paul II International Film Festival in Miami, will have an online screening with Morality in Media next Thursday. After that, it’s on to World Youth Day in Spain for a screening on Aug. 17.
ZENIT caught up with filmmaker Sean Finnegan, the director and producer of "Out of the Darkness" to talk about the film’s message.
ZENIT: What was the inspiration for creating this documentary?
Finnegan: I had been working for another film company involved in producing Christian and Catholic films. Someone mentioned the growing significance of pornography and I began to investigate the topic. I discovered that a great deal of work had been done on the issue, and several films dealt with the topic. However, the majority of those films focused on either addiction or the First Amendment, while none of them looked at the primary victim of pornography — the woman. I felt that this was a unique way to approach the pornography debate.
Of course the films that explore the issues of addiction and free speech are important, but I wanted my film to remind people that underneath it all, what we are really talking about are human beings, created in the image and likeness of God. I wanted to use film, primarily a storytelling vehicle, to put that human element at the heart of the story.
I began researching the topic, looking for someone who had been involved in pornography but escaped. Pretty quickly I discovered Shelley Lubben and her incredible story. I realized that not only was her story worthy of being told, but it highlighted many other problems in our society that I know are closely linked to pornography — the sexualization of children, loneliness, loss of faith, etc.
I wanted "Out of the Darkness" to include people who could talk about these issues and highlight some of the historical and psychological conditions that exist or have existed, which have allowed pornography to prosper in this country. The project grew to include Dr. Judith Reisman, a well known expert on Alfred Kinsey, Hugh Hefner and the history, growth and dangers of pornography, and Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a Catholic marriage counselor working in the field for decades. I had also long been aware of Mark Houck’s addiction story and his ongoing work fighting against the evils of pornography, and I thought his presence would enhance the overall story as well.
One of my fears was that the film would get bogged down by facts and statistics, so I worked hard to keep my storytelling focus primarily on the individuals involved. I simply allowed each of them to tell their story, which allows the audience to engage and become emotionally invested, and also to see more clearly how each story is intertwined and interconnected with the other.
One of the most eye-opening elements of the story, as it developed, was the information presented by Dr. Reisman. She has spent decades trying to expose the story of the real Alfred Kinsey, but hers has been a lone voice in our academic culture. Kinsey’s work has influenced so many different aspects of our society, and yet so few people have really looked at his work. Rather than focus on the disturbing way he came to, or perhaps even invented, his conclusions, the social sciences and academics instead focused on his conclusions and the sexual revolution they spawned.
ZENIT: Can you tell us some details about the making of the documentary?
Finnegan: The documentary was made with very few people on a very low budget. We didn’t want that to keep us from producing a high quality film, so we decided more or less to take our time and make sure the film looked good, sounded good, and flowed properly. We knew that just because we had an important story there was no excuse for producing a low quality product. In fact, the significance of the topic demanded that all the external elements be above par so as not to take away from the story.
We did hours and hours of interviews with each participant, and there was enough material for multiple documentaries, but we committed to focusing on the human element within each story. I cannot say how the making of the film impacted the others, but for me it showed how pervasive the sexual utilitarian philosophy has become. Pornography has affected everyone, in one fashion or another, in every demographic and station of life. G.K. Chesterton wrote that sometimes something is so big that we can’t see it. That’s how I feel about the sexual utilitarian philosophy. It is everywhere. And the damage it has done is so extensive that we have simply accepted it a priori, assuming that it’s just the way our culture is and has to be. But that’s not true, and we wanted our film to put a spotlight on the personal stories of those whose lives have been damaged by this misguided assumption.
Another interesting thing we experienced while making the documentary was the revelation that we do not have to accept our culture as it is handed to us. We can actually help make culture, and improve it, and create art that appeals to the higher things and greater good. Telling a story with all the elements of degradation, loss, sin, grace, conversion, and deliverance is a genuinely eye-opening, and heart-changing experience. I hope "Out of the Darkness" conveys that to audience members, and leaves them as moved and motivated as it does those of us involved in its production.
ZENIT: How has it influenced audiences? What kind of feedback have you received?
Finnegan: Since we are self-distributing the film we have taken a non-traditional approach to the challenge of getting the film seen. To that end we have entered "Out of the Darkness" in a number of film festivals, Christian and secular, and aggressively reached out to Catholic and Christian churches, men’s groups, civic groups, Catholic/Christian TV networks, and college campuses to secure screening licenses. This is a slow and time consuming process, but it allows us to build relationships with each organization that has shown the film, and it creates a strong word-of-mouth campaign that results in growing enthusiasm for the film.
The audience response to "Out of the Darkness" has been very strong and very positive. Young adults in particular have been moved by the films message of love and hope. "Out of the Darkness" confirms what most young people already intuit: that they have been lied to about the promises and freedoms of sexual liberation, and that using others — in relationships or pornography — is a damaging process to everyone involved.
Most audience members are also grateful for the fact that we produced a documentary on pornography that is not voyeuristic, sensational or risqué in any way. By focusing on the personal stories of those involved in or affected by pornography, we avoided the need for objectionable material. Instead, we introduced a human element to pornography that gets audience members to emotionally engage and respond to the film.
All films generate negative feedback, and though we have received nearly universal praise from most of our audiences, there are those who find Shelley’s story hard to believe — or at least hard to believe it isn’t elaborated for effect! But as Austin Ruse wrote in his review of "Out of the Darkness": "She [Shelley] is not without her enemies: all the right ones."
Shelley and her story is a real threat to our currently sex-saturated culture, and we take critics of our film seriously and in good cheer. Others object to the under-emphasis we put on Mark Houck’s story of addiction and recovery. Surely more people relate to his story than Shelley’s journey into the sex industry. Even so, we wanted to introduce people who may find themselves in Mark’s shoes to the idea that the images they are looking at damage them on some level, and on another level damage the person in the image!
ZENIT: Tell us about the JPII Film Fest award it received.
Finnegan: "Out of the Darkness" was the opening night film at the John Paul II International Film Festival in Miami this past February. The audience loved the film’s powerful message, and it was awarded "The Mystery of Love Award" as the film that best represented the festival’s theme.
"Out of the Darkness" is also going to be screened as part of the cultural program at World Youth Day in Madrid this August. It’s a great opportunity to introduce our film to a young and excited audience interested in living a life of the gospel.
Also, we are working with Morality in Media to do an online screening Aug. 4. People are invited to participate in their "Be Aware" campaign on their Web site.
ZENIT: What do you hope this documentary will achieve?
Finnegan: I hope "Out of the Darkness" helps expose the lie that pornography is a "victimless hobby" and a "harmless pastime." I hope audience members remember that human beings — both users and producers — are really hurt by pornography and the sexual utilitarian philosophy. Of course no single film is going to turn things around on its own, but I hope that some people, who after seeing this film, will think twice about clicking the mouse, purchasing a magazine, or using another fellow human being sexually, and with complete disregard for their well being. I hope "Out of the Darkness" will help them realize that a real person had to undergo incredible suffering to produce the material they are about to watch.
I also hope that viewers become more aware of the important work of Dr. Reisman. Alfred Kinsey is a hugely important 20th-century figure, yet very few people even know who he is. There has been an upsurge in awareness of Kinsey and Dr. Reisman’s work in recent years, but only unmasking this man and his research can we really begin to reclaim our culture. I am very heartened that young people in particular have responded very strongly to the film and to Dr. Reisman, and I hope "Out of the Darkness" helps to further that trend.

The Gift Of Love Opens Hearts And Saves Lives At Rockford's Abortion Mill

Rockford, Il – ( – 7-30-3022 – by James – On the sidewalks outside of Rockford’s abortion mill pro-lifers spoke with a mother who was bitter and scared about being pregnant again.  She was definitely considering an abortion.  This is when the grace of God took over and this resentful young woman went into the Mobile ultrasound clinic.

The love and Christian hope she received inside the ultrasound clinic, and seeing her child in her womb opened mom’s heart to her baby.

All obstacles were not overcome though.  Her mother arrived, the grandmother of the child, and also spoke with pro-lifers outside the mill.  Grandma told the pro-lifer she still thinks her daughter should get an abortion.  That’s when pro-lifers shared with her all of the help available in Rockford for mothers in need, and the direct and immediate help that the pro-life Christians of this city would provide.

After a long internal spiritual battle between the forces of death and life, the presence of Christians offering love and the powerful truth of an ultrasound that showed a child in the womb, both mom and grandmother’s hearts were softened and the baby in mom’s womb is now loved and safe.

The grandmother who at first favored abortion then said, if you people are willing to help then I’ll help also.  She gave a sidewalk counselor a big hug before she left with her daughter and her grandchild.

Rockford area pro-lifers are taking up a collection to help this courageous mother who chose life his morning.  She is going to come back and see us at the Labornews building next to the mill on Wednesday August 3.  If you would like to help her please bring groceries or gift cards to help mom, the baby in her womb, and her others children.

The gift of love truly opened hearts and souls to the beauty of life this morning……all thanks be to God.

Abby Johnson: Abortion Doc Told Patient “I Will Take Your Sin”

by Abby Johnson | Washington, DC | | 7/26/11 2:40 PMSometimes memories creep into my mind from my days inside Planned Parenthood. When they do, I try to document them. I don’t always share them…some of them I just won’t ever be able to share with you. Some of them are things most of you wouldn’t want to know. But some of them I can’t wait to share…this is one of those memories.

Most of the time, there is no communication between an abortionist and a woman having an abortion. None. Usually, the doctor comes in without introducing himself, mask on his face, sits on a stool, performs the procedure, and walks out without saying a word to the woman on the table. We never had any complaints. I guess women don’t expect the doctor who will take the life of their child to have wonderful bedside manner.
About 3 months before I left Planned Parenthood, we had a young woman in the clinic who I had counseled before her abortion. She was very noticeably upset about having an abortion. I questioned her and encouraged her to go home and think about her decision. She was insistent…this abortion must happen today. This is what she wanted. She was just emotional, she said. She asked if I would be in the room with her to hold her hand during the procedure. I was happy to do that for people I counseled…especially those that were nervous or upset.
We got her in the room, I sat down beside her, got her blood pressure cuff on, and the sedation was given. But the sedation didn’t make much difference. She cried even harder. So hard she was shaking and her body was moving off the table. The doctor entered the room in the usual manner. He was about to sit down on his stool and realized she was very upset.
Then he did something that left me speechless. He walked over to her and stood next to my chair. He took her hand and began talking to her. “Why the tears?” he said. “I just feel really guilty about doing this,” she responded. He asked her why she felt guilty. She said, “Because I just know this is a sin.” He paused for a minute and looked at her…he was looking at her so carefully…so cautiously…I had never seen one of our doctors treat a patient like this before. He smiled gently at her and said, “No. It is not your sin. It is mine. I will take on your sin. I commit the sin. Not you.”
He patted her hand, walked back to his stool and sat down. Her crying stopped. It was bizarre. Did he really think he was committing a sin? How could he do it if he really thought that? Did he think he was taking on the sins of these women by helping them obtain abortions? What a heavy burden to bear. It was hard for me to process…it still is.
I remember working at the clinic and thinking that if I died while I worked there, I would probably go to hell. I thought at the time that it would be worth it. I couldn’t imagine not working at Planned Parenthood. I did think that it was God’s will that I be there in the first place. I was so unsure of who God was or what His “will” actually meant…I was completely misdirected.
But this doctor was different. If he really believed what he said, he was intentionally taking on the sins of these women. Why would he do that? Why would he want to? I won’t ever know the answer to these questions, but I do know that sin doesn’t work that way. He can’t be the scapegoat for these women. They are both guilty of sin…the woman and the doctor. Both equally guilty. Both equally forgiven, if they repent, and turn to Christ. Some of you may think the abortionists hold more guilt than the mother. I would disagree. I do not believe women are “victims” to abortion. I have had two abortions. I was not a victim. I was a perpetrator. My children were victims. Women who are coerced to have abortions still have a choice. They still make that final decision. The final “choice” is up to them. They choose to take the life of their child. Their child is the victim.
If these women weren’t at the abortion clinics…if these women were able to look at the value of the life they are carrying in their womb…if they could see beyond their current discomforts and look at the whole picture, we wouldn’t have women choosing abortion. Then we would have no need to abortionists. Or, visa versa. It has become a cycle. One person needs the other. They are both equally guilty. Neither are victims. Neither are inhuman. Neither are “lost souls.” Neither deserve hate. Both are God’s children.
Wouldn’t it be easy if we could pass our sins on to someone else? I mean, we are sinful people. We don’t even like to think about just how sinful. So, instead of thinking about our sins, we usually focus on everyone else’s. Did you see what she wore to church…do you know what kind of music he listens to…did you hear what came out of her mouth…do you know what he did last weekend…and so it goes. We are so concerned about the sins of others, we fail to remember that we are also sinners.
I frequently hear people say things like, “Shame on those abortion clinic workers. How can they do that to those poor little babies?” Or, “Shame on those abortionists. There will be a special place in hell for them.” Even, “Shame on those women who have abortions. They are the most selfish women ever.” You know what?? SHAME ON US.
Dr. Bernard Nathanson often talked about the strategy that was used when they founded NARAL. Dr. Nathanson said they just needed the Christian churches to stay silent on the issue of abortion. The abortion groups just needed the churches to silently buy in, in a sense, to legalized abortion. That’s exactly what happened. We look at statistics and see that over 70% of women who choose abortion are Christians…and please don’t give me the “well, they say they are Christians” attitude. No.
These are women who go to church…who sit in Bible studies…who attend Mass…who lead praise and worship groups…daughters of pastors…wives of deacons…you name it, they are having abortions. Why would these women have abortions? Don’t they know it is wrong? Sure they do. Why do we all sin? Why do you sin? We justify it. We rationalize it. We think we just HAVE to. We make sense of it. And are we talking about it? Nope, not really. I go around the world talking to pro-lifers and asking them about abortion and the Church. Everyone has a pretty similar response…the church isn’t talking about it. Sure, I will find a church every once in a while where the clergy bring it up in church, or they actually have a ministry for single moms…I am always shocked and elated! I am shocked because it is SO uncommon.
Why don’t we want to talk about abortion? We have groups for everything in churches! Grief, beginning yoga, quit drinking, quilting, orchestra, quit smoking, low impact aerobics, how to deal with a problem kid, groups for homeschooling parents, divorce, how to manage your money, detailed studies on every single book of the Bible, five hundred Beth Moore studies, knitting for beginners, weight loss…I’m telling you…you want it, you can find it at your local church. Well, unless you are in a crisis pregnancy or are suffering from a previous abortion. Oh, no ma’am. We don’t talk about THAT in church!!! But if you would like to come meditate with us in yoga, we would love to have you on Tuesdays at 9am. One in three women have abortions in this country, over 70% are Christian, but we won’t talk about it. Yeah, shame on us.
What are we waiting for? Are we waiting for permission from God? Well, we have it. We have it in the Scriptures. Check. Are we waiting for permission from our clergy? I hate to tell you this, but while you wait, babies are dying. We don’t need permission from the clergy to make things happen at our churches. Women in your church right NOW are suffering and hurting.Families in your church are suffering right NOW from the devastating effects of abortion. But we wait?? For what?
You can make something happen. Start a small group at your house and advertise it to the women in your church. Connect with your local pregnancy center and put a table with all of their brochures and information at the back of your church. Ask to put a small ad about your local pregnancy center in the bulletin every week. Start bringing it up to your friends at church. Hold a screening of a pro-life movie like Bella or Blood Money at your church. Start a 40 Days for Life and get the people in your church involved. Start making some noise!! Get uncomfortable! Make other people uncomfortable!!
The people who are uncomfortable are the ones who need to hear it the most. Don’t wait for someone else’s permission to do the right thing!! It is always the right time to stand up for life! Now is the time! Someone in your church is waiting for you to step out of your box and shake things up. You won’t be alone. We are never alone when we stand up for Christ and follow His teachings. These moms and babies deserve to hear our voices…and we should be loud. In the end, we will not be able to pass our sins and apathy off on someone else. We will be accountable. We will say, no, these are not their sins…they are mine. There is no scapegoat.

Rockford's "pro-choice = no-choice" Group

Rockford, IL. ( – 7-28-2011 – by James – If what is at stake were not the brutal and vicious deaths of children in the womb, the mind-numbing absurdity of Rockford’s abortion supporters would be priceless.

In recent weeks abortion supporters have resorted to physical force to block mothers from having the "choice" to see free ultrasounds of their children in their wombs.
Now the Rockford "pro-choice = no-choice" group has taken the irrationality to new heights.
Julie Thompson, one of the pro-aborts who stands at the driveway of the abortion mill to block mothers from having the "choice" to receive free help or learn about alternatives to abortion, decided to address the City Council on Monday, July 25.
The topic of her address?
To be pro-choice we need to take away from mothers the "choice" to use the free ultrasound at Rockford’s abortion mill.
Her address was as stunning for its sheer hypocrisy as it was for its lunacy.  Even hardened pro-aborts had to snicker when they heard a woman claiming to be "pro-choice" trying to convince the city council to take away the only choice mothers in Rockford have for  free ultrasounds.
In the long run displaying preposterous reasoning like this, in public, shows any rational person that the "pro-choice = no-choice" group in Rockford is in reality just pro-dead-baby.

Rockford will never reject abortion until Rockford sees abortion.
Standing on the streets of Rockford, exposing what abortion does to a child, is not easy but it is an act of love for children and for those who have been sold the lie of the culture of death.  Showing the truth of what abortion does to a child has also saved lives right here in Rockford.

Rockford Abortion Supporters Offer Women No Faith – No Reason – No Help – No Hope and No Life

Rockford, Il – ( – 7-27-2011 – by James – In the past few months, numerous pro-lifers have tried to engage abortion supporters who come to Rockford’s abortion mill, in conversation.  Below are ten points that Rockford abortion supporters have been asked, to which they have been unable to respond in a rational way.  We share these points with you in the hope that we can learn how to oppose the moral bankruptcy and deadly harvest of the pro-abortion philosophy.

1. Abortion kills a person – Even the former head of Planned Parenthood said, "Abortion takes a human life."  The scientific proof is clear beyond any doubt that abortion kills a person.  When Rockford abortion supporters are asked about this or shown pictures of children in the womb, they refuse to respond to any questions about the lives of these human beings.
2. Abortion harms mothers – Rockford’s pro-aborts have claimed in public they are "patient advocates."   When pro-lifers have asked them about the scores of independent studies that prove abortion has dozens of harmful and even deadly physical and psycological effects, these "patient advocates" can only talk about their "rights" and ignore the lives and health of women.
3. Abortion turns mothers and fathers into the killers of their own children – Pro-lifers have asked the Rockford abortion supporters many questions about love for children, family, and the responsibilities of parents.  Two of the abortion supporters have responded by saying they would support the "termination" of their own children or grandchildren if that was a "choice" that was made.
4. No-Choice in Rockford – The main goal of the Rockford pro-aborts is to block mothers from having a "choice" to hear about alternatives to abortion.  They do all in their power at the entrance to Rockford’s abortion mill to stop mothers from receiving any information that would help them make an informed "choice."
The Rockford abortion supporters believe women should kill their own children without access to information, help, or any other "choices" than dead babies.
5. Guilt – Local pro-aborts have written numerous letters to the local media claiming pro-lifers make women feel "guilty" about abortion.  The fact is pro-lifers offer love and life so mothers do not have to spend a lifetime of guilt regretting the killing of their children.  The pro-aborts’ fixation on the "guilt" connected with abortion betrays the reality that they know deep down, abortion is the killing of a child.
6. 160 million sex selection abortions – This is the one that causes the pro-aborts not only to walk away but to walk away VERY fast.   Pro-lifers consistently ask them about the 160 MILLION female babies that have killed by sex selection abortion simply because they are female.  Nothing in the history of humanity has destroyed as many females as sex selection abortion, and the Rockford pro-aborts have no idea how to respond to this.
7. Abortion is war on the unborn – A pro-abort at the Rockford mill who claims to be against war while standing in public conducting his own war on unborn human beings was asked about the hypocrisy of his position.  He could only respond with anger and finger pointing – not really the "pro-peace" position he claims to support.
8. Horrid conditions of Rockford mill and bigotry of mill staff – When Rockford abortion supporters have been show the signs in the abortion mill windows attacking people with HIV, ridiculing women, and mocking God, their usual liberal beliefs don’t come into play.  The right to kill children in the womb is more important to these "enlightened liberals" than the racism, bigotry, hatred, and squalid conditions that are hallmarks of the Rockford abortion clinic.
9. Ultrasounds – Ultrasounds show a beautiful person in the womb and that abortion is the brutal killing of a child.  Sadly, this is exactly why this group of abortion supporters decided to get involved publicly in this issue.  They have admitted to pro-lifers they don’t want women using the mobile ultrasound and have even used physical force to stop mothers from seeing an ultrasound.
10. Hell – This is the one question that does seem to get a lot of different responses from the pro-aborts that range from acrimony to belligerence.
The bitter reality is that promoting the murder of children in the womb only makes a soul fit for hell.  The reality that these abortion supporters have no response to this fact may be the greatest tragedy of all.

Disturbing Abortion Testimony

Rockford, Il – ( – 7 26 2011 – by James – Why The Pro-life Christians Of Rockford Will Never Give Up!  Even though the Rockford abortion mill makes a public display of its bigotry, racism, and hatred for God and human life we only know a fraction of the real horror and hellish killing of babies that takes place behind the secretive walls of the Rockford killing center.  Below you can read about just one of the dirty secrets of the abortion industry that has been brought out in court.  Please continue to pray, sacrifice, and work so this kind of inhuman murder of children will end in our country and in the city of Rockford.

Abortionist admits: babies sometimes born alive and left ‘wiggling around in the toilet’
ORLANDO, Florida, July 26, 2011 ( – In disturbing testimony during court proceedings against a well-known Florida abortionist, a fellow abortionist reportedly admitted that some aborted children are delivered alive and left “wiggling around in the toilet,” where they are allowed to die.
The testimony occurred during proceedings against abortionist James Pendergraft, who was forced to pay over $36 million last week for a botched procedure that left its intended target alive, but severely disabled.
Pendergraft, who was convicted of felony extortion in 2001, was told by an Orlando County jury to pay $18 million in the civil suit itself and another $18 million in punitive damages, totaling over $36 million.
Michele Herzog of Pro-Life Action Ministries, a witness in the courtroom, said that jurors listened as abortionist Randall Whitney, one of Pendergrast’s accomplices, “cavalierly stated that yes, babies are delivered in the toilet all the time and many times are still alive, wiggling around in the toilet.”
“I would say it was eye-opening, but we all know what really goes on in these abortion mills.  But to hear the abortionist so coldly explain how they kill the children is so hard to hear and so unbelievable to think that it is allowed in our great nation,” Herzog said.

Practitioner Must Pay Survivor of Failed Abortion $36 Million

by Steven Ertelt | Orlando, FL | | 7/25/11 10:29 AMIn a legal case that has received no mainstream media attention, a Florida abortion practitioner has been ordered by a court to pay the survivor of a failed abortion $36 million in damages for injuries she suffered from the abortion.

James Pendergraft is the owner of five abortion facilities in Florida and a late-term clinic in D.C. “specializing” in abortions past the 24th week of pregnancy. He has had his medical license suspended four times for botched abortions, illegal late-term abortions, and dispensing drugs without a license. He has also faced legal and disciplinary actions for making up false threats from pro-life advocates and “reporting” them to authorities.
This week Pendergraft found himself in an Orange County courthouse facing a lawsuit from the daughter of Carol Howard, who wants a lifetime of medical care after she was born alive after a botched abortion began. The plaintiff is a 10-year-old girl with massive birth defects who survived the abortion. The plaintiff’s mother, Carol Howard, paid $1300 to have an abortion in November 2001 when she was 22 weeks pregnant.
The plan was for the daughter, identified as JH in court documents according to a pro-life advocate familiar with the case, to be delivered stillborn into a toilet. After 12 hours of labor, the mother left the abortion clinic very upset and went to a nearby hospital because the process was taking too long. There, she gave birth to a girl weighing 1 lb 6 oz, who is now 10-years-old. She has cerebral palsy, no function on the left side of her body, strokes and brain damage, physical, emotional and cognitive delays, lung damage, chronic lung disease and seizure disorders.
Pendergraft was found liable for damages and, according to pro-life advocate Kelly Clinger, who had multiple abortions done by Pendergraft years ago, Pendergraft was ordered to pay Howard $18,255,000 in punitive damages, $18,000,000 in compensatory damages and over $400,000 in court costs.
Clinger tells LifeNews that she feels some redemption that Pendergraft has to compensate the victim for the damages she received as a result of the abortion.
“I must admit that, in a way, this feels like a glimpse of redemption for me and like a small beam of light piercing through the darkness,” Clinger says. “Pendergraft is a convicted felon with no medical license who is still making massive amounts of money off of child killing. I am praying that this will be the thing that brings down the empire of death that Pendergraft has built.”
Pendergraft, who runs the Orlando Women’s Center abortion business, has had his medical license repeatedly revoked for botched abortions, illegal late-term abortions, and dispensing drugs without a license. In January, he was exposed by the pro-life group Operation Rescue as reportedly setting up shop in a secret late-term abortion business somewhere in or near the nation’s capital where late-term abortions are being only partially completed.
He also opened a new web site,, that describes in detail how his new office is soliciting women nationwide and from other countries for “intracardiac injection of medication into the fetal heart,” which kills the unborn child. Pendergraft describes how his new abortion center uses long spinal needs to pierce the pregnant abdomen and inject the hearts of late-term unborn babies in the womb with poison or air.
Pendergraft makes it clear on the web site that he does not complete the abortion process at his new location but discharges patients 15 minutes after the injection and leaves them to go to their own personal physician or find a medical center nearby or in their home state to remove the body of the deceased unborn child. Without treatment women in this condition can die.
Operation Rescue president Troy Newman informed of the new Pendergraft center, which he says is purposefully designed to evade Florida law and compel the participation of legitimate physicians and medical staff in the abortion process. He notes how the web site describes how Pendergraft will discuss the injection over the phone with women and how they will be met privately and escorted to the secret location for the baby’s fatal injection.
“While Pendergraft attempts to convince the reader this is about security, it is more likely about evading law enforcement, because this dangerous process is highly unethical and likely illegal since he holds no active medical license whatsoever,” Newman said.
Pendergraft faced previous suspensions, one as recently as January, 2010, for botched legal abortions and illegal late-term abortions, and dispensing drugs without a license.
The first suspension was the result of a complaint filed April 14, 2008, that states Pendergraft illegally prescribed controlled substances without proper DEA licensing. The board also said Pendergraft committed medical malpractice in a botched abortion of a 19-week-old unborn child in February 2006.
The botched abortion saw Pendergraft inadequately dilating a patient’s cervix for a D&E abortion. He then ruptured her uterus and shoved the unborn child’s body into the abdominal cavity.
The mother was rushed to the hospital where she received an emergency hysterectomy along with the removal of the dead unborn child, who was missing an arm after the abortion attempt. OR indicates the arm was later found at Pendergraft’s EPOC abortion clinic. The pro-life group maintains that Pendergraft’s not reporting that he had removed the arm caused a delay in her care at the hospital as surgeons futilely attempted to locate the missing appendage.
While on suspension, his abortion centers continue to operate with other abortion practitioners, at least one of which has had his own problems with the law.

Gianna’s House Pregnancy Resource Center, Rock Falls/Sterling, Il.

( 7 25 2011 – by AnnaRae – The Parish Respect Life Committee from St. .Joseph in Freeport IL. recently held a collection for much-needed supplies for Gianna’s House Pregnancy Resource  Center in Rock Falls.  We  had the pleasure of delivering these items, along with a check, to Kelly Johnston the Executive Director of Gianna’s House.  Kelly gave us a tour of their beautiful center and explained some of their achievements.  As you read all the wonderful things they do at Gianna’s House, bear in mind that there is never a charge to the client for any of their services.

This is truly an excellent organization.  The day we were there Kelly was present to give us the tour and she showed us a room which will be used for the ultrasound unit when trained personnel are available. As we were leaving, two other volunteers came in.  We regret we did not take their pictures.  Please forgive the oversight.
Below is a statement from Kelly telling us about the services and background of  Gianna’s House.
I am Kelly Johsnton, the new director at Gianna’s House Pregnancy Resource Center in Rock falls, and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you our wonderful ministry. With the tremendous support from Msgr. Thomas Dzielak, who is an advisor to the Board of Directors, Gianna’s House opened its doors in October of 2007 to all individuals in making pro-life choices by offering spiritual, emotional, and practical assistance. Gianna’s House PRC is named after the pro-life Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, who was an Italian wife, mother, and doctor. She and her Husband, Pietro Molla, had 4 children. Gianna had complications throughout her pregnancy with her fourth child; and would continually put her child’s life before her own with any medical decision to preserve her baby’s life. Seven days after giving birth to her little girl, Gianna Emanuela, the 39-year-old mother died regardless of all effort and treatment. This modern-day saint is an inspirational role model not only to mothers and the pro-life ministry, but also to physicians.
Our facility has offered many services to women throughout Northwestern Illinois on an ongoing basis. Because of our wonderful and faithful supporters, we can provide services such as pregnancy test, assisting with practical items, referrals to local agencies, sexual integrity education, post abortion healing, and counseling from our compassionate volunteers. We are currently seeking out to become a pregnancy resource medical clinic so we may provide ultrasound services. 90% of the time mothers, who are vulnerable in choosing abortion, will actually choose life for their unborn when they are able to see them with ultrasound technology.
If you would like to support our pro-life ministry, we are accepting donations of practical items for our mothers. Such items as diapers, baby wipes, baby food/formula, clothes, cribs, car seats, strollers, etc. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept used car seats and crib mattresses, only new. If you have any questions or would like to support us in other ways, please contact Kelly at (815) 213-0290 or email: Many thanks and please pray for us and the mothers we serve!
* Our Center is open on Monday from noon -6 pm, on Wednesday from 5pm – 8 pm & Saturday from 9am – noon
* The Center has been open for approximately three and a half years.
*  Our Mission Statement is, " By providing spiritual, emotional, and practical assistance, we will welcome and educate all individuals in making pro-life choices consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church."
* We provide assistance to everyone who comes to our Center.  Our clients come from all over not just a certain geographical area.
* We have 2-3 trained volunteer peer counselors per shift.  We have 12 counselors at this time.  These women are the life blood of the Center.  They provide an ongoing mentoring relationship with the parents who need our help.
* The counselors and services at Gianna’s House are in place to serve a wide variety of needs.  Many of the women who come to our center are expecting a baby and typically they have already decided that they wish to keep their baby.  95% of the time they are experiencing difficulties in several areas of their life however.  They have financial difficulties, problems in their relationships with their babies father or with their own parents.  They are scared about many things.  We very often have women who report to us that they have nowhere to live.  Our awesome volunteers talk with them about each area of their lives and help them find resources to assist them.  Once the babies are born, the mother or father can come to the Center once per month for material goods, such as diapers, wipes, clothes, baby bath and for large items as they are available such as cribs and mattresses, high chairs, swings, strollers, etc. The beauty of this is that it keeps them coming back and therefore the mentoring can continue.
* Additional programs that we offer are, three different Sexuality Integrity classes.  These are beautifully Christian based programs. The first is Relationship Reality, the second one is designed for women who have been sexually mistreated which is definitely the majority of the women we work with.  The third program helps women understand their fertility.
* Gianna’s House has partnered with the Diocese of Rockford Respect Life Office to offer a 13 week post abortive healing Bible Study called A Time to Heal.  We just completed our first series.  We cannot overlook or forget to reach out to and serve the women who have been affected by abortion.  With every abortion there are at least two victims.
* As I am sure you can imagine, our main goal is to work with women who think that an abortion is the answer to an unexpected pregnancy.  We do serve these women yet not the number of them that we know are in our community.  This has certainly been a source of frustration.  One of the national organizations that we are affiliated with, NIFLA "National Institute of Family and Life Advocates" teaches us that the abortion minded woman is not attracted to a Pregnancy Resource Center for assistance.  Therefore, many PRCs are making the transition to becoming a Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic.  We at Gianna’s House are also striving to make this conversation as well.  We will then be able to offer limited obstetrical ultrasounds to these women.  Research shows that after viewing an obstetrical ultrasound that 90% of abortion minded women will choose life for their child.  We would also like to offer free testing for sexually transmitted diseases.  This will bring in the sexually active population, hopefully prior to them becoming pregnant and our counselors can then begin working with them and educating them.
* All of our services are free

Rockford Abortionist Dennis Christensen Willing To Abort Babies Well Past Age Of Viability

Rockford, IL – ( – 7-25-2011 – by James – Here in the United States we did not hear much about one of the newest pro-life witnesses: 8-month-old Frieda Mangold.  When she was born on Nov. 7, 2010, in Germany, Frieda was in the womb just 21 weeks and five days..  She weighed just over a pound and was 11 inches long

She spent the next few months in the neonatal unit of Klinikum Fulda Children’s Hospital in Fulda, Germany — a town St. Boniface knew well.
When she left the hospital, she weighed 7.71 pounds and stretched out to 20 inches. Certainly, it was no coincidence she went home with her parents John and Yvonne on Easter weekend.
The owner of the Rockford abortion mill Dennis Christensen kills babies in Rockford up to 18 weeks old and kills babies in the womb in his other abortion mills up to 24 weeks.
Pro-lifers of Rockford need to remember that each and every child who is killed by abortionists Christensen or Kernes in Rockford are children loved by God, children who are our sisters or brothers, and children, who if they did not fall into the hands of an abortionist, would be alive today.
