Opposing Abortion Is Our highest Calling And The Most Important Ministry In Rockford

Rockford, Il – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 3-30-2012 – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative – In Rockford we do have one area of Christian ministry that may well be our highest calling – being actively pro-life.  The Rockford abortion mill may be closed but the murder of children in the womb is still legal.  Rockford girls and women who are not properly informed of the horrific and barbaric nature of abortion still may seek to kill their own daughter or son in the womb.

Christians are needed to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world in every part of public life in our community.  From education, health care, and nursing homes, to caring for the physically, mentally, and spiritually suffering of our community, Christians have the privilege and duty to bring the light and love of Christ to all in need.

PLEASE JOIN US ON PALM SUNDAY APRIL 1, 2-3PM, FOR A PUBLIC PRAYER VIGIL AND PRO-LIFE GATHERING AT THE CORNER OF STATE STREET AND ALPINE.  WE WILL HOLD PRO-LIFE SIGNS AND PRAY FOR AN END TO ABORTION IN OUR NATION.

Below are three ways being actively pro-life is the most important spiritual work, Christian ministry, and way we can fulfill Christ’s command to "love one another as I have loved you" in the City of Rockford.

Save lives – Because Christians in Rockford have opposed abortion for 25 years by praying, offering help, and being a public witness to Jesus Christ, hundreds and possibly thousands of human lives have been saved.  No ministry in Rockford has a greater life-saving impact than working to save children from being brutally and viciously killed by abortion.

Save souls – Abortion not only destroys lives, but is also destroy souls.  When we as individuals and a society are willing to murder the weakest and most defenseless among us, we are sacrificing our souls on the altar of selfishness and thereby rejecting both God and human life.  Being actively pro-life means making Jesus Christ present in the lives of people who have been sold the demonic lies of the culture of death.  Being actively pro-life saves souls.

Save society – Nothing destroys families and society like the killing of children.  Abortion destroys relationships between women and men and between parents and children.  Abortion turns politicians and physicians into child killers.  A people who are willing to kill their own children will never have peace or a moral, good, and just society.  When we are actively pro-life, we bring hope and love to a society that has lost its way.

Media Mislead on Abortion-Mental Health Risks for Women

by Michael New | LifeNews.com |  In recent weeks a number of mainstream media outlets have devoted extensive coverage to errors that were made in a recent Journal of Psychiatric Research article authored by Bowling Green professor Priscilla Coleman. The original article found solid statistical evidence that abortion leads to a range of mental problems among women. These include depression, alcohol abuse, and PTSD. However, according to her mainstream media critics, these errors invalidate her findings.

After reading the coverage, one wishes that the reporters who are covering the story would actually bother to read both Professor Coleman’s original article and her response. After the original article was published in 2009, Coleman and her co-authors discovered a problem with the sampling weight used to conduct the original analysis. They promptly re-analyzed the data with the correct weight and wrote a corrigendum that was subsequently published by the Journal of Psychiatric Research.

Contrary to what much of the mainstream media is reporting, the results did not change much. The original article found that abortion led to a statistically significant increase in the likelihood of 15 mental-health problems. The new results indicate the abortion leads to a statistically significant increase in the likelihood of 11 mental-health problems. Again, contrary to what the mainstream media is reporting — most of the original findings held.

However, that has not stopped countless media outlets including the New York Times and the Washington Post from attacking the Professor Coleman’s research.

Essentially these media outlets are using the sampling error to give Guttmacher Institute analysts a megaphone to attack the research. These analysts have not focused on the sampling error, but instead have taken great pains to criticize the research methodology used by Coleman. The issues are somewhat technical. However, the concerns about the methodology are largely irrelevant to the situation. The methodology that Coleman used in both the original article and the corrected version was deemed satisfactory by the both outside referees and the journal editor. As such the methodological concerns seem largely overblown.

In reality, there is a substantial body of peer-reviewed research which documents the negative psychological health impacts of abortion.

In 2011 Professor Coleman published a meta-analysis which included the results of over 22 peer-reviewed studies incorporating data from 877,181 women. This meta-analysis offered the largest estimate of mental-health risks associated with abortion. It appeared in the British Journal of Psychology, one of the most prestigious psychology journals in the world, and provided plenty of evidence that abortion leads to a range of mental health problems. Of course, it should come as no surprise that this study received scant coverage from mainstream media outlets.

Painting of the Resurrection by Ron DiCianni

(ProLifeCorner.com) – 3-27-2012 – into by Staff – Ron DiCianni has painted a mural of the Resurrection of our Lord that will be displayed in the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, TX.  Like Michelangelo, Ron has used his God-given talent to take the words right off the pages of the Bible and turn them into beautiful art, thereby giving us the ability to see and better understand what our God has done for us.

Not only can Ron express this in his art, but in this short video he verbally gives us a better understanding of this moment in time.  May God richly bless him with success in promoting his work of glorifying our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thousands of Pro-Life Advocates Rally for Religious Freedom

by Steven Ertelt | LifeNews.com Thousands of pro-life Americans took to nearly 200 local rallies in cities and towns across the country to stand up for religious freedom and against the Obama mandate that requires employers to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions. The rally in Washington, D.C. was so large organizers had problems getting the entire crowd in one picture.

Kristan Hawkins, the head of Students for Life of America, was one of the pro-life leaders to address the crowd in the nation’s capital.
“The new mandate, which was released last month, violates  our civil liberties and free exercise of religion by forcing every American, every public and private University Student Health Care Plan, and every U.S. Employer, regardless of religion or conscience, to pay for abortion-causing drugs, like Ella, in health insurance plans, she said.
Hawkins added, “Two weeks ago, President Obama’s Secretary for the Health and Human Services Department, Kathleen Sebelius, admitting during a Congressional hearing that this Mandate is needed because, “reducing pregnancies will cut health care costs”. Put bluntly, this mandate, due to take effect this summer, will violate the very principles our nation was founded on – our freedom of religion and conscience!”

“This isn’t an issue simply about the Catholic church, contraception, or abortion. It goes far beyond. Does the government have the right to force you to pay for a product that violates your conscience or religious beliefs? And if it does, what stops them there?” Hawkins added. “Ask yourself who stands to gain from this Mandate? Who will make money off it? Those who are pushing it: Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities.”
Eric Scheidler, the main organizer of the event, said the rally “has exploded into what may well be the single largest nationwide pro-life event in history.”

“Barack Obama’s HHS Mandate has awoken a sleeping giant. I’ve never seen so much zeal [in the pro-life community],” he said. “People are deeply offended that President Obama’s HHS Mandate casts fertility as a medical condition and pregnancy as a disease requiring free, mandated “preventive care.” And they’re horrified that Obama’s phony “religious exemption” excludes from the realm of religious ministry such things as feeding the hungry and caring for the sick.”

Father Peter J. West, Vice President for Missions with Human Life International took part in one of the local rallies in Virginia.
“When the government decides that the First Amendment of the Constitution must be obliterated so that some may receive free non-life saving drugs, our entire nation has a serious problem,” said West. “This is one hundred percent about freedom of religion and freedom of conscience, and it affects every citizen, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof.”

“We have received commitments from local schools and businesses, including some of our non-Catholic brothers and sisters who recognize the threat to religious liberty that that HHS mandate represents,” said Fr. West. “We have research that shows how corrupt the process of adopting the mandate by the Obama administration really was. This mandate is not good for women’s health, it is murderous for unborn children and it is as flagrant an offense against the United States Constitution as one can imagine. The Church will not stand for this unjust mandate, which is why we choose to STAND UP FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.”

Jeff White and Cheryl Conrad of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust joined rally participants in Los Angeles.
“This rally is intended to draw attention to the injustice of the federal government’s riding rough-shod over the conscience of American citizens as we seek to generate even stronger national opposition to the HHS Mandate-a ruling already opposed by millions of Americans,” said Jeff White. “We pledge to work for its ultimate reversal.”

White continued, “The HHS mandate actually seeks to define what constitutes religious ministry in its narrowly crafted so-called exemption. This sort of government intrusion must be opposed. This is not about the issue of contraception-this is about protecting religious liberty as it is enshrined in the United States Constitution.”

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition and D.C. rally captain/organizer, chimed in as well.
“We are honored to be hosting a ‘Stand Up for Religious Freedom’ rally here in Washington, D.C. at the HHS building. Health and Human Services is at the center of the debate concerning President Obama’s unjust mandates on faith institutions,” he said. “We agree with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops when they say these mandates, ‘…involve needless government intrusion in the internal governances of religious institutions, and to threaten government coercion of religious people and groups to violate their most deeply held convictions.”

Video Of Rally in defense of religious freedom, Freeport, IL

Up Date     Freeport IL-  ProLifeCorner.com- The rally in defense of religious freedom was a success.  Over 140 cities all across the nation participated in the rallies.  The enthusiasm of the crowd of about 260 people assembled at historic Debate Square in Freeport, IL was wonderful to behold.

The love of country and love of Christian faith was a joy for this American patriot to hear.  Those who spoke that day were Pastor Steven Barr, Father Timothy Barr, Pastor Jon Singleton, Retired Judge Charles Hartman, retired school administrator Ellen Slick, Monsignor William McDonnell, and moderator Christopher Clukey.

Like the words of Abraham Lincoln over 150 years ago are still remembered, the words of love of God and country spoken on this March 23 will be remembered also.  This event is so important we will put the entire event here on our site in 4 parts.  This is important that all your friends, children, and grandchildren hear what these patriots had to say this day and the world must hear that the tyranny of the Obama administration will not be tolerated.

Rally for religious freedom by Larry Plachno

Freeport, IL – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 3-24-2012 –Larry Plachno has contributed many articles to the Pro Life Corner.  Larry and his family honored us with their presence at the Freeport Stand Up For Religious Freedom Rally held yesterday in Freeport.  The article below gives Larry’s views of both the rally and the HHS mandate.  The beautiful pictures included in this article were taken by Larry.  Many thanks for all your hard work, Larry.

Rally for Religious Freedom
Friday, March 23, 2012 in Freeport
by Larry Plachno –
On Friday, March 23 at Noon at approximately 139 locations around
the United States, people joined rallies to protest and defeat the recent mandate
by Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius requiring
employers to cover the cost of abortion-causing devices and drugs.
Moreover, they must also promote early-term abortions, sterilizations and
contraception.
Because of misleading information in the news, many people including
Catholics do not understand why huge numbers of people, including
many non-Catholics are protesting and demanding that this mandate be
set aside. The two major reasons for this concern are Freedom of Religion as
well as the economy and jobs.
The new HHS mandate does not deny anyone access to contraception
or abortion. If the mandate is set aside, the same access to contraception
and abortion will continue as it is today. The only difference the new mandate
makes is that employers would be expected to pay for them. Hence,
the only thing being denied under the new mandate is the employer’s
Freedom of Religion.
What is behind the new mandate is a major change in our society and
total government control. The mandate takes the position that government
should replace religion in determining good and evil. People will no longer
be permitted to have morals and religion will no longer be permitted to
determine good and evil. Instead of “Our Father, who art in heaven . . .” our
new prayer will be “Our Father, who art in Washington . . . .” If the mandate
stands, religion and the people can no longer determine good and evil, that
now becomes the government’s job.
The second concern is our economy and jobs since our elected officials
seem to have no idea how to attract and keep business and jobs. The HHS
mandate will have a substantial negative impact on jobs and the economy.
Almost totally ignored by our elected officials is the fact that improvements
in transportation and communication have put us into a world economy
for many years. You can go to your computer today, go to the Apple
Web site, and order an iPod from China and even have your name
engraved on it. It will show up in your mailbox in three or four days. Not
that many years ago, this would have been considered a miracle.
Most people do not realize how easy it is to move certainly types of jobs
these days. With VOIP phones, a computer and a good internet connection,
any place in the world becomes a modern office. I know of companies that
do not even have a real office. Their operation is set up so that all of their
staff work out of their homes and all are in different locations. In recent
years this has even moved to retail and services since you can now buy
items from foreign countries, programming, and Web site work through the
internet.
In the past, most of the reasons for outsourcing jobs have been economic.
Employers had to outsource in order to complete with our companies
in the global marketplace. Contrary to much public opinion, the real reasons
for outsourcing jobs are not so much wages and salary as they are
taxes and regulations. Liechtenstein, a small country in Europe, has wages
very similar to the United States. But they have twice as many corporations
as residents and must bring in workers from Switzerland and Austria to handle
all of their jobs. The reason for their success with business and jobs stems
from having a maximum corporate tax rate of 18 percent and regulations
that encourage business.
With the new Sebelius HHS mandate, employers will now have a
moral reason as well as an economic reason for creating, terminating or
moving jobs. One has to seriously question whether this is a good move in
this time of economic problems and unemployment. We recently had a
taste of this in Illinois when the state mandated that adoption agencies must
also give babies for adoption to homosexual couples. Rather than comply,
Catholic adoption offices were closed, putting people out of work and eliminating
services to others.
This same thing is happening now on a national level with the HHS
mandate. What will happen to jobs and the economy if Catholic hospitals
and schools are forced to close down? What will happen to the people left
without medical or educational services? How many private companies will
adhere to their moral values and either shut down or move their jobs elsewhere?
How will all of this affect our economy and unemployment?
Take the next step. What happens when Obamacare continues to
unfold and increases the cost of health care and medical insurance? Will
you be able to pay for it? Will employers have to shut down or move out to
places that do not have these costs?
In common with the other Defense of Religious Freedom rallies
throughout the United States, the rally in Freeport started shortly after noon
on Friday, March 23 in Debate Square – the location of one of the famous
Lincoln-Douglas debates. Frank Munda from the Stephenson Country right
to Life and prolifecorner.com was responsible for the excellent planning.
After the Ortega family sang “America the Beautiful,” Christopher Clukey
from Stephenson Country Right to Life welcomed those attending and introduced
a series of speakers.
Pastor Steven Barr, pastor of East Gate Christian Center, had most people
kneeling for an opening prayer. His comments, including mentioning
that we are “All Catholics Now,” brought applause and affirmation from the
crowd. Father Timothy Barr, pastor of St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s churches
explained about the mandate and was met with much support and affirmation.
Retired Judge Charles Hartman spoke about some of the legal ramifications.
Next came Pastor John Singleton, pastor of Embury Methodist
Church. He brought along and used a rams horn that was a historic call to
prayer and repentance. He was followed by Ellen Slick, a retired Catholic
and public school administrator.
Christopher Clukey entertained the group with his interesting suggestion
that follows up on the HHS mandate including contraception and abortion
as health care. He suggested that since bacon was so healthy and beneficial,
the government might want to mandate that the Jewish people and
Muslims eat it.
Msgr. William McDonnell, pastor of St. Thomas Church, offered his closing
remarks and a prayer. The rally ended with the Ortega family leading
the group in singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Clearly, the United States is faced with major decisions in regard to
Freedom of Religion, jobs and the economy. Think about where your support
should be.

Rockford Register Star Shows Contempt For The People Of Rockford Again

Rockford, IL – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 3-24-2012 – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative – On Friday March 23, a religious freedom rally was held in Rockford attended by religious leaders, political leaders, the head St. Anthony Medical Center, physicians, and representatives of many Rockford schools and organizations.  What was at stake is the possible closing of St. Anthony Medical Center, Boylan High School, Catholic Charities of Rockford, and numerous grade schools if the Obama contraception / abortion mandate stands.

Over 1000 people lined the streets of Rockford to draw attention to the dangers to our community if the federal government is successful in stripping religious liberty from Christian organizations.  This was one of the largest and most important rallies in the history of Rockford.

This rally and others like it in Freeport and Sterling were covered by many other local news outlets.

The Rockford Register Star decided that the possible closing of so many Christian institutions in Rockford was of no importance to them at all.
The Rockford Register Star determined that when over 1000 Rockford residents make a united public statement concerning the future and welfare of our community, that effort does not even deserve one line in the Register Star.  This is the contempt the Register Star holds for the Rockford Christian community.

On March 23, the day of the religious freedom rally in Rockford, the Register Star did have the time to run a story on the importance of "enjoying daffodils."

Generally, when a public institution like the Register Star fails or betrays the people of their community, it is a good idea to contact them and politely request they take seriously their public position for the common good.  The Register Star has shown such deeply held contempt for Rockford Christians for so long that any attempt to ask them to treat people with fairness or justice in the past has been met with silence.  Below is contact information if you are willing to ask the Register Star to treat the Christians of Rockford with fairness.
