2014 – A Year of Repentance

America Needs Repentance Now

ProLifeCorner.com-by Annarae- America Needs Repentance Now –   Greetings to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ; may the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. I would like to suggest to you something that could bring millions, possibly hundreds of millions, of prayers to our Father in heaven; prayers offered in humble contrition for the sins committed against God our Father.  As a nation we have committed sins of commission and omission; God has blessed America more than any other nation in the world and yet we have turned our backs to Him.

The purpose of this prayer outreach to all Christians, entitled “2014 – A Year of Repentance; America needs repentance now”, is to offer our Lord petitions of praise, thanksgiving and repentance which hopefully will be pleasing to God so that once again as a nation we can receive His protections and blessings.  Our idea is to associate the simple act of sanitizing our hands with prayer.

America is at a crossroad.  The question is will we stay on the path laid down by our founding fathers or surrender our freedoms to a dictatorial socialistic government?  The godless enemy entrenched in Washington DC and in other capitals throughout our states is alarming. We have sunk so far into the pit of socialism I don’t know if man has the ability to reverse this freedom destroying trend on his own.

There is hope.  I am convinced that God is in charge but we must understand His ways- choose my ways, oh man, so that you shall live saith the Lord. Freedom is granted to us from God; it is an inalienable right and cannot be taken away from us. That doesn’t mean that the Stalin’s and Hitler’s of the world will not try. Barak Hussein Obama has waged a dictatorial, unconstitutional, immoral war against Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. The only thing that can put this trend in check and reverse the runaway train of Obama-ism is prayer. Pray unceasingly, every day, 24 seven. One might say that’s impossible- it is impossible if we try it on our own but as a collective group of believers it can be done. We at the Pro Life Corner believe that it can be done and we hope that this will be the beginning of a nationwide effort to pray unceasingly asking God to be merciful upon us, a sinful nation.

God was merciful to Nineveh, a place that deserved to be judged harshly but instead of judgment God granted His mercy because of the repentance that came from the leaders and people when they heard from God’s call for repentance through his messenger Jonah.  Again, in the case of Abraham, God couldn’t spare the city of Sodom because there could not even be found ten righteous people, but He did bring to safety the eight souls who were righteous.  And that is what we want to ask our loving Father through prayer, take into account our sorrow for sin and for the sake of the righteous few, please spare America.

Who are the righteous few, you might ask?  Well, it’s probably not most of us in the pews!  Certainly the righteous few are our innocent children and grandchildren, for soon they will be in charge and the future of our nation will be in their hands.  We need to pray that the Holy Spirit will preserve them in their righteous ways.

America has murdered over 55 million of its pre-born citizens and denied them the constitutionally  granted right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  The blood of the innocent cry out to God for justice.  And let’s not forget about the evils of euthanasia, pornography and illegal drugs that are, for the most part, being accepted as the norm by much of society. The attacks upon families and their rights to live according to  Judeo-Christian beliefs is increasing daily.  The only acceptable bigotry in this country is anti-Christian.  It is perpetuated and spearheaded by the highest officials in our government. We could go on and on about the problem but what we really need to cover is our proposed solution.

The Power of Prayer

“…I strongly suspect that if we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers to God make, and all the people those little prayers were destined to affect, and all the consequences of those effects down through the centuries, we would be so paralyzed with awe at the power of prayer that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.”  Dr. Peter Kreeft

As stated above, pray unceasingly.   This is impossible or improbable for most people.  However, there is a simple solution that we can all do. The solution is several times a day, as an individual when you sanitize your hands, you associate that moment to offer a prayer to our Father in heaven. You can follow some of these suggested petitions and prayers below or you can say a prayer from your heart to our Lord to be merciful upon America.

Think of the millions of healthcare workers all across our country; the doctors, nurses, nursing home care providers, and all the other  medical personnel who are required to use hand sanitizer as they go from patient to patient, and room to room. Whether washing with soap and water or hand sanitizer, the individual is required to sanitize their hands.  A prayer could be offered to the Lord during the time it takes to do this simple act.  As an individual,  in my home I use sanitizer or wash my hands several times a day and I and my household have made a commitment to our Lord to use this simple act of sanitizing my hands to offer a prayer to our Lord and Savior to be merciful and spare America.

Form prayer or prayer from the heart, it’s all good. Think about the possibilities- 1 million healthcare providers sanitizing their hand 10 times a day translates to 10 million extra prayers going to our loving Father in heaven. 50 million Christians offering 10 of these prayers per day is 500 million prayers in reparation for the sins of America. Most of our days are only eight hours long.  We need to think in a universal way. There are 24 time zones in the world.  That means every hour a new day is beginning in another time zone. As the sun travels from East to West it is our hope that these prayers and petitions will move across the nation and spread all throughout the world. Now I’m not naïve enough to think that people in Japan and the Philippines are going to pray for America, however,  they need to pray for their nation who is also in dire need of God’s mercy, the same as we are here in America.

Does this sound too simple to be true? Well, it is simple and true. I believe our Lord likes humble simplicity. This is something that we can all do.  If you’re not a health care provider, that’s not a problem. Anyone can participate, young or old, in between, up on about, home bound, retired etc., God’s ear is open to all of his children. A family of three sanitizing their hand 10 times a day would be 30 prayers of repentance that might not have been offered before, but will be now because of this simple practice of associating hand cleaning with prayer.

Now that we have associated the simple act of sanitizing our hands with offering prayer to God, we would like to suggest that our petitions could be threefold: Praise, Thanksgiving and Repentance.  Repentance for the sins of abortion and euthanasia, and the many other sins committed by us as a nation.Praise to glorify God andThanksgiving, to thank God for His many blessings upon ourselves as well as others.  We could also add  our own personal petitions.

Call for Repentance: A prayer with examination of conscience

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NRSVACE)

14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

WE DO SIX AND GOD DOES THREE

1- If my people (do you consider yourself a child of God? Or your family “the people of God”?)

2- Called by my name (do you call yourself a Christian, declaring Jesus to be “Lord and Savior”?)

3- Humble themselves (do you ever ask yourself what is humility?  Do you have examples of people you especially admire for their humbleness?)

4- Pray (do you pray? What do you pray? How often? What do you think Jesus means when he exhorts us to “watch and pray” Mark 14:38 or St. Paul means when He says “pray always” ?

5- Seek my Face (seek to be closer to God through participation in acts of charity, reconciliation, adoration, worship, penance, forgiveness of others)

6- Turn from their wicked ways (what do you think God thinks is wicked?  Do you ever do it? Do you have a tolerant policy of live-and-let-live attitude when you observe others being wicked according to God’s standards?)

THEN, and only then, can we expect:

GOD will hear from Heaven

GOD will forgive our sins

GOD will heal our land

Mark 14:38

38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

Ephesians 6:18

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

FOLLOWING ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS:

Praise :All praise be to you Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true Man,  Creator of all that is visible and invisible, King of Kings and Lord of Lords; Thy kingdom come. Amen.

In honor of the sacred wounds of Christ: I adore the wounds in thy sacred head with sorrow deep and true; may every thought of mine today be an act of love for you. Amen

Thanksgiving: We thank you for this once great nation called America.  You have blessed her immeasurably for over two hundred years. She has been the shining light among nations. We have turned our backs to you, oh Lord, we are truly sorry. We now humbly ask for your blessings to restore her back to her former glory. Amen

A Thanksgiving prayer: Oh, God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry; when I have work help me to remember the jobless; when I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer; and remembering, help me to destroy my complacency and bestir my compassion. Make me concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted.  Amen.

Repentance:  Lord deliver us from the sins of abortion and euthanasia. Amen.

Lord protect our families from the forces of darkness. Amen.

Lord protect our nation from the culture of death. Amen.

Lord, we are a sinful nation and deserve Your just judgment for the sins of abortion and euthanasia.  We ask for your mercy.  For the sake of the righteous few, please spare America. Amen.

Father spare America. Amen.

Cleanse my lips, Oh Lord, that everything I say and everything I do will be pleasing to You. Amen.

Lord, forgive me for the sin of gossip; a sin that harms others by stealing their good name. Amen.

Lord, send forth your Spirit and You shall renew the face of the Earth. Amen.

EXAMPLES FOR CHILDREN: A familiar childhood hymn such as:

Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.  Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.

OR:  Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world.  Red and Yellow, Black or White, they are precious in His sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world.

WHAT CAN I GIVE HIM? (Christina Rosetti)

What can I give Him, Poor as I am? If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb, If I were a wise man I would do my part. Yet what can I give Him? Give my heart.

Short Prayers To Help Us Through The Day

There are more examples of short little prayers below.  Use them as they are or combine some to reflect what is in your heart.  Form prayer such as these or prayer from the heart; it’s all good.  Our Father is waiting to hear from you.

These short “mini-prayers,” also called “aspirations” or “invocations,” can be said throughout the day to keep our minds focused on Heavenly things and to consecrate our efforts.

It is good to adopt one of these as your own so in times of stress, words that can focus your attention back to the holy come easily.

(You can put Amen at the end of each of these or combine them as it speaks to your heart.)
