Some Who Gave All, All Who Gave Some

ProLifeCorner- Freeport Illinois- Memorial Day 2015 –  Roger L. Kampmier, lead coordinator of the Madonna Renewal Center committees and friend of the ProLifeCorner, sent us a wonderful tribute to those who gave all so that we may live in freedom. It is an honor for us to publish this tribute below. May our Lord richly bless Roger, his family, and all who have answered their country’s call by serving in our military and naval forces. Blessed Are Those Who Have Not Seen And Have Believed

Blessed Are Those Who Have Not Seen And Have Believed

 ProLifeCorner-  By Larry Plachno-

As most people know, this quotation comes from the 20th chapter of St. John’s gospel. When Jesus Christ first appeared to the apostles after His resurrection, doubting Thomas the apostle was not there. Thomas said he would need to see Christ in order to believe. Later, Thomas did see Christ and believed as Christ uttered these famous words.

Belief is increasingly important in our day and age of digital communication. People expect to see everything right in front of their eyes. If not, then they put themselves first and ignore the love of God and love of neighbor admonishments of Jesus Christ. But God is there if you look for Him. Give me a few minutes of your time and I will show you where. Continue reading

Is Selfishness Killing America?

How “love of God” and “love of neighbor” defines your life, your family, your politics and your future.

 ProLifeCorner-   By Larry Plachno

Give me a few minutes of your time and I will share with you some of the highlights of 25 years of research into interconnected social problems that will probably change the way you look at society. It may even change the way you look at good and evil in your own life.

Summertime of 2015 marks 25 years since I began research on what some of us call Interconnected Social Problems. At that time I had five kids and was disenchanted with “Political Correctness.” I felt that there must be logical reasons for our social problems. Hence, I started research in the summer of 1990 at the downtown Rockford Public library accompanied by two of my kids. For the record, I might mention that I later adopted kid number six and number seven showed up as a pleasant surprise. Hence, I have somewhat of a vested interest in figuring out what is going wrong with our society. Continue reading

ProLifeCorner- Beaumont, Alberta, Canada – Mark Pickup-  On 6 February 2015, the Supreme Court in my country of Canada struck down the nations laws against assisted suicide. In a unanimous decision the high court ruled that physician assisted suicide should be available for any “Irremediable” medical condition (including illness, disease or disability) that causes enduring suffering and is intolerable in the circumstances of his or her condition.”  This could encompass psychological pain. The high court felt that available treatments need not be taken. If Ludwig van Beethoven lived today in Canada, can you see how he might be at risk of being assisted in his suicide?  Continue reading

ProLifeCorner- Beaumont, Alberta, Canada –  Our friend Mark Pickup has been inspiring us with his writings for many years.  Mark and his wife LaRee live in Canada and the problems they are facing regarding religious freedom and the murder of the pre-born child through state sponsored abortion and state sponsored euthanasia is as bad if not worse than here in the United States.  He gives an example of the relentless attacks on the rights of Christians to practice their religion, even within the walls of their own schools.  It is time for Christians of good will, priests, pastors, and Bishops to stand up and defend Christ and His church and say “enough is enough they have gone too far.” Let us return to the principles that this country was founded upon  and take the state sponsored religion of Secular Humanism out of our schools, and once again allow us to call upon the protection and the blessings of our God.  Continue reading

What Kind of Fruit Is In Baltimore?

ProLifeCorner-   “Resorting to violence is not the teachings of Jesus the Christ. Christians everywhere need to claim Jesus for our country and demand that prayer be allowed in our schools.”

These words were the subject of a recent homily given by Father Timothy Barr.  In his homily he decried the violence and lack of moral values that has pervaded our nation in the last several years.  The tragic events in Baltimore would not have been tolerated years ago when we were allowed prayer in schools and freedom of religion; freedom of religion to practice our faith, not just freedom to worship.  Take a few minutes to listen to this excellent talk given by a most courageous priest. I Am the Vine, You Are the Branches

ProLifeCorner-   “I am the vine, you are the branches.”

When Maureen O’Rourke’s  father was dying of Alzheimer’s, she promised to be with him to the end.  A career nurse, she was confident that she could care for him during his difficult final days.  After pneumonia set it, death was imminent — or so it was thought.  He was taken to a nursing home; but she remained at his side, taking care of all his physical needs as he slipped in and out of consciousness.

Even though her dad continued to hang on, she was determined to keep her promise to him: that he had nothing to fear, that he would not die alone, and that she would stay with him until the end.

But after three weeks, she was physically and emotionally exhausted.   She could not continue.  From a WBUR “Kind World” radio interview entitled, Father’s Final Days, A Small Act of Grace, Maureen remembers: Continue reading

Are We Facing a Marriage Crisis?

 ProLifeCorner-  By Larry Plachno-

An increasing number of researchers, leaders and others are concerned about the crisis of declining marriage and how it negatively impacts our society. Religious leaders have taken a greater interest in promoting marriage. In recent weeks Pope Francis has made the importance of marriage the subject of some of his weekly audiences. Researchers are pointing out increased social problems and costs caused by the lack of marriage. And, historians are warning us that a lack of marriage and the resulting negative impact on society preceded the fall of the Greek and Roman civilizations.

What the researchers have learned is that the answers to our problems have already been given to us by God and Jesus Christ. We just have not been smart enough to listen to Their wisdom. Continue reading

Abortion on Demand A Major Factor in Domestic Violence

ProLifeCorner- Rockford Illinois-  Recently a local newspaper did a series exposing the dangers of domestic violence. We applaud this effort; however quite often the secular media misses one of the obvious causes of domestic violence. Mr. Kevin Rilott, of the Rockford Pro-Life Initiative, fills in the gap where the newspaper left off. As always we are grateful to Mr. Rilott for his insight.  As a great commentator and news journalist, Paul Harvey, often said here is the rest of the story. Continue reading
