Not Just a Life Preserver

Not Just a Life Preserver

By Katrina Hingtgen

Trina 175xA priest friend of mine once gave me a blessing and he asked Jesus to tie a rope around His waist and around mine and to tie the most secure knot – that way I would always be connected to Jesus, as long as I didn’t untie my end! I cannot live without Jesus. He is not just a life preserver I use when I am drowning in this crazy life of mine, He is the source of life I must continually be connected to in order to survive from day to day, as a baby in the womb is connected to his mother by the umbilical cord.

This morning I was not feeling well and did not want to leave the comfort of my bed; and had it not been for my great desire to be united with Jesus, I would still be laying in bed, half asleep. So I dragged myself out of bed, still trying to talk myself into returning, showered and dressed and got ready to go. Continue reading

Pope Francis and the Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy

Pope Francis and the Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy

We are halfway through the Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy and yet many people are not fully aware of it and its implications. Fewer yet seem to have taken advantage of what Pope Francis and the Holy Year has offered us. This particular Holy Year is very unique in two areas that include its treatment of abortion and the ease of a pilgrimage to the Holy Door. Please give me a few minutes of your time so I can explain what the Holy Year is and how we can take advantage of it.

Pope Francis opened the Holy Door (Porta Sancta) at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on December 8, 2015 to inaugurate this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was also present as were numerous others. Pope Francis earlier said “On that day, the Holy Door will become a Door of Mercy through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons and instills hope.”

There were two reasons given by Pope Francis for selecting this particular date. One reason is that this date marks the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Pope Francis points out that this represents God’s action in choosing Mary as the mother of man’s Redeemer. A second reason is that it represents the 50th anniversary of the closing date of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. The Church feels a great need to keep this date alive. Continue reading

Pentecost and Homily 2016

Pentecost and Homily 2016

Introduction:

Good afternoon (morning)!  Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Pentecost – the coming of the Holy Spirit and the 1983rd birthday of the Church, which began in the year 33 AD!

The Church recognizes two forms of revelation – Sacred Scripture –the Written Tradition as revealed by the God the Father and God the Son, AND Sacred Tradition (aka Oral Tradition) as clarified and explained more fully by God the Holy Spirit!

Pentecost is the beginning of Sacred Tradition! The work of the Holy Spirit in the Church, as first revealed to the apostles – the first pope and first bishops, and continues to the end of time with their successors, the pope and bishops in union with him!

It is only to the pope and the bishops in union with him, and only them, does the guarantee of unbroken line of Truth and authoritative interpretation of divine revelation reside!  Continue reading

Abortion, Politics and the Slippery Slope

Abortion, Politics and the Slippery Slope

ProLifeCorner-     By Larry Plachno

Larry-150x1 blueMany people may ask whether there is an obvious connection between abortion, politics and the slippery slope. The demographers and researchers will tell you that there is a very obvious connection. Moreover, this connection explains why our society is falling apart.

Our Polarized Society

Those who have been keeping up with research, or even just reading the news, are aware that our society has become increasingly polarized. A poll by a well-known company in late April of 2016 showed that only 26 percent of Americans feel that the United States is heading in the right direction. An earlier poll of likely voters in February of 2016 disclosed that 81 percent of the respondents felt that the Federal Government is corrupt.

Another poll in April of 2016 showed that nearly 30 percent of Americans felt that the political parties were out of step with the voters. This is increasingly obvious as the presidential election campaign unfolds. On the conservative side, the two candidates with the most support were both mavericks who did not follow traditional politics. Even the liberals have a second candidate who is getting support as an unconventional politician. Much of this reflects the fact that our society has become increasingly polarized in recent decades.                Continue reading

Ascension/Mother’s Day Homily

ProLifeCorner-  We recently received this Mother’s Day homily from a good friend. He speaks of the awesomeness of mothers and their role in the family, and yet does so in a lighthearted way. And then he brings us back to the celebration of Jesus’ Ascension into heaven. Enjoy, and may our Lord richly bless all of the Mothers who give their selfless love to all their children.

Ascension/Mother’s Day Homily

Good morning!  Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord in Heaven!  On the Solemnity of the Ascension, the Church does not merely commemorate an historical event in the life of Christ. Rather, on this day, the Church celebrates Christ’s physical departure from time and space, to His glorification with God the Father in eternity.

Each and every Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered daily around the world is a celebration and re-enactment of Christ’s glorification.  By glorification, I mean His life and ministry, His suffering, His death, His resurrection, AND His Ascension into heaven!

Moreover, the Ascension of Jesus into heaven is a definitive sign and symbol of His glorious Second Coming and the end of time on the last day. The Ascension is Jesus’ legacy.  But, Jesus Christ will return to the earth in the same manner as He left it. When the risen Lord returns again in glory, God’s will for mankind will be fulfilled.

The Ascension is also an impending sign of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, which the Church will celebrate next week! Continue reading
