40 Days makes an impact

This report is full of news, read on….

40 Days for Life continues to make an impact on this community, in many ways that we see with our own eyes, and in many ways that we will never hear about.  This story was given to us from the pastor of one of our supporting churches.
I just wanted to let you know of a testimony of one of our members.  Their cousin was pregnant and unknown to them but they were going to abort the baby.  When we presented 40 Days for Life last week she found out that her cousin was going to abort the baby.  She didn’t know what to do but began preying on her own for her cousin.  We, as a church, were unaware of any of this and were praying corporately for mothers and fathers who were considering aborting their babies to change their mind.  Well, her cousin actually went into the clinic to abort her baby, but while there had a change of heart and left the clinic choosing life for the baby.  It is wonderful, a life saved!  We will be trying to reach out to her.
Continue to have faith that our efforts are not in vain.  Already 5 babies have been saved that we know of, and only God knows how many eternal souls have been saved.

Here is a short inspirational video reminding us that the battle that we are involved in is a spiritual battle;
a battle not of flesh and blood but a battle of principalities and powers.  Hope you will enjoy it.
40 Days for Life Becoming a Global Phenomenon
Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
February 24, 2010 (40DaysforLife) – As we open the second week of our 40 Days for Life campaign, I’d like to salute the many people around the world who have officially joined this amazing effort to pray and fast for an end to abortion.
There are six campaigns in progress in Canada: Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta; Toronto and Guelph, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; and Kelowna, British Columbia.
In Kelowna, the 40 Days for Life vigil is outside Kelowna General Hospital, where abortions have taken place for years. There has been a regular prayer presence there — but 40 Days for Life is bringing many more people to the sidewalk to pray.
In Australia, Sydney has launched its first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign, and I’m really thrilled to see this mission expanding Down Under, with Melbourne also joining second-time participant Brisbane this time, and other cities planning for the future.
The 40 Days for Life team in Sydney hit the ground running, gathering the enthusiastic backing of Catholic Bishop Julian Porteous, who said, "As a society we cannot allow ourselves to accept the fact of abortion as acceptable, because we would be taking the view that human life is expendable."
The bishop added that 40 Days for Life "is a peaceful, prayerful campaign, and has my full support."
40 Days for Life also has a European presence. Belfast, Derry and the rest of Northern Ireland are all joined with you in prayer, but with an additional intention — to protect all of Ireland, where abortion remains illegal.
Those who support abortion, of course, are vigorously doing everything they can to change that.
Just this month, the European Parliament adopted a report that says, "Women must have control over their sexual and reproductive rights, notably through easy access to contraception and abortion." Pressure, obviously, is building.
Please keep praying!
We are all far, far apart in terms of distance, but we are all of the same mind and heart when it comes to protecting God’s innocent children.
Our amazing God knows no bounds … and no borders.
Wisc. Planned Parenthood Caught in Sex Abuse Cover-Up
MILWAUKEE, February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – New undercover footage shows staff at a Milwaukee, Wisc. Planned Parenthood abortion clinic apparently breaking the law by counseling a purportedly 14-year-old statutory rape victim not to tell anyone about her 31-year-old boyfriend, and coaching her how to obtain an abortion without her parents’ consent.
The new video, the seventh in a series from Live Action documenting similar behavior in 5 other states, comes amid recent controversy about Planned Parenthood’s compliance with state laws regarding minors and abortion.

After hearing that the girl is 14 and her boyfriend is "much older," the counselor in the video says that whether or not the situation will be reported by clinic workers "depends on the person you’re disclosing that information to." When the girl says that her boyfriend is 31, the counselor tells her, "You don’t have to say anything" about the statutory rape and instructs her, "Just give them the information that’s needed." The counselor also confirms that the 31-year-old "boyfriend" will be paying for the abortion.
In Wisconsin, sex between an adult and a minor under age 16 is a felony, and health care professionals are required to report such cases to law enforcement immediately. The law specifically includes abortion providers in this requirement.
Live Action, the youth-led pro-life nonprofit that produced the video, has previously released undercover footage in its "Mona Lisa Project" showing sexual abuse cover-up at Planned Parenthood clinics in California, Indiana, Arizona, Tennessee, and Alabama.

The Alabama Department of Health put a Birmingham Planned Parenthood on probation two weeks ago after finding 9 legal violations during an investigation prompted by a Live Action video.
Twenty-one-year-old UCLA student Lila Rose, Live Action’s president, says her organization’s videos reveal a common trend of unethical counseling practices and disregard for the law at Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S.
"In case after case, Planned Parenthood exempts itself from its legal and professional obligations," said Rose. "At a time when the Obama administration, through its new health care plan, is offering potentially billions of dollars to the abortion industry, state and federal lawmakers need to take notice of Planned Parenthood’s lawlessness and make certain they receive no more taxpayer subsidies."
Live Action is also responsible for a
recent video exposè of biased counseling and medical misinformation at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. Wisconsin law requires that women be provided accurate medical information before undergoing an abortion.

"The evidence is now available for all to see that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin ignores state laws that have been in place for years," said the Live Action president.

"Wisconsin law enforcement needs to follow the lead of other jurisdictions, investigate this corrupt organization, and enforce the laws that protect vulnerable women and their pre-born children."
Dramatic Pro-Life Rescue in Vegas
By Peter J. Smith
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A dramatic pro-life rescue recently took place in Las Vegas, after a woman who had already started the process of a late-term abortion was convinced to reverse the procedure and save her unborn child, and in the process overcame a drug addiction.
The National Catholic Register reports that most pro-life activists and doctors are not aware that the process of some late-term abortions can be reversed once it has begun. But luckily for Jamie Stout and her healthy unborn baby, two pro-life activists knew this was the case and were able to reach out her and convince her that she still had a window of opportunity to stop the death of her child.
“It isn’t over till it’s over,” Pam Caylor, executive director of First Choice Pregnancy Services in Las Vegas, told the Register when describing their rescue of then 20-week-old “Baby Claire” – now happily a month away from being born.
The Register reports that Caylor’s crisis pregnancy center, First Choice, “already saves well over 2,000 babies a year in Las Vegas.” But it was First Choice’s ultrasound operator Marina Cortopassi, who told her that her neighbor’s daughter, Jamie Stout, was getting an abortion. Stout was a drug addict with one child already being raised by her parents, and she did not want to put them through raising another daughter.
By the time Cortopassi met with Stout and her father at the abortion clinic, workers had already just started the abortion – a three-day process at 20 weeks – having inserted laminaria sticks into Stout’s cervix for dilation and induced labor.
However, Cortopassi managed to convince Stout’s father and Jamie that it was still not too late to reverse the abortion and keep the baby. The abortionist had not yet given the baby a lethal injection, but they only had less than six hours to remove the laminaria from Jamie – and find a doctor who would do it.
As the drama unfolded, Caylor and Cortopassi were successful in finding two physicians confident to direct the emergency room doctor on how to remove the laminaria. And none too soon: nearly five hours had passed before the ER doctor finally was able to remove them.
Throughout the ordeal, Caylor, Cortopassi, and members of the First Choice staff prayed for Stout, her baby, and the successful operation.
The whole experience ended up transforming the family, healing old wounds and binding them closer together – something Caylor called nothing short of a miracle. Stout told the Register that by the grace of God, she immediately lost her addiction to drugs.
“I feel totally excited and completely blessed now, given a second chance,” Stout said. “It was a big wake-up call not only for me but for my family, where we stand with our belief with God, faith and when life begins.”

Day 9 of 40 Days for Life: The Difference You Can Make
February 25, 2010 (40DaysforLife.com) – Do you know how important your presence in front of  an abortion center can be? Here are a few reports  from local 40 Days for Life campaigns that just begin to tell the story.
One of the prayer volunteers in Houston, Texas says a mom and her young son arrived to pray at their vigil in front of Planned Parenthood. The woman had aborted her first child at that very location.
She HAD to be there to pray, she said. "I can’t help but think that if some pro-lifers were here" when she had the abortion, "maybe I wouldn’t have gone through it."
Those sentiments were echoed by BJ, who posted a comment on the 40 Days for Life blog.
If only there had been someone praying outside Planned Parenthood in her city, 19 years ago, "it would have made all the difference in the world to me and my boyfriend," she wrote. "I regret every day what occurred in that cold winter morning."
Just BEING THERE can have a profound impact.
Joanne tells of a mom who brought her children to the 40 Days for Life vigil in Cranston, Rhode Island. While they were praying, her son noticed a woman sitting in a car in the parking lot. He looked in her direction once, and then again.
The woman looked at him, and their eyes locked.
"The woman began sobbing," Joanne said. "Something in her heart moved."
We pray that God’s healing love will touch women contemplating abortion — and all whose lives have been touched by past abortions. The suffering can go on for years.
Dorothy, who left a note on the 40 Days for Life blog, said she still thinks of the "horrific decision" she made 26 years ago, when there was no one there to tell her she could choose life for her child.
She had never healed from the pain of that abortion — until recently.
"When I stood and prayed in front of Planned Parenthood, I was flooded with emotion," she wrote. "Holding the sign that ‘women regret abortion’ empowered me, along with the wonderful people that surrounded me in prayer."
Sadly, not all of the women who see her sign take heed.
"A young woman leaving Planned Parenthood looked away in profound sadness after reading my sign," Dorothy said, "and I thought, ‘Dear God. Her life will never be the same.’ The impact on women is so understated."
Still, she said, thanks to you and all 40 Days for Life participants, "I am now on the road to healing."
Please pray for all those who seek healing — and especially for those who would deny that abortion leaves a lasting impact.
Two volunteers stood in the rain and prayed at a
40 Days for Life vigil last week as a young man
drove up, got out of his car with the engine still
running, and walked over to talk to them

"I just wanted to thank you for being here," he said.
"I know you know what kind of a place this is," he
said, pointing towards the abortion facility. "Can I
tell you a story about it?"

The prayer volunteers nodded yes, and the young man
began to pour out his heart.

He said a couple of weeks ago, his wife was not at
home and he had no idea where she was — until he got
a phone call from the hospital. "My wife had been
admitted because she was having seizures," he said.

At the hospital, he found out his wife was pregnant.
It would be a struggle with two young children already,
he said, but they’d work it out.

As he spent more time at the hospital, it began to
dawn on this young man that no one was telling him
the whole truth. He realized something was seriously
amiss when his wife told him she’d left her car at an
abortion facility.

He thinks she went there for a chemical abortion —
the abortion pill. She began to have seizures and was
taken to the hospital.

His wife insisted she was still pregnant, but he
simply didn’t know for sure.

"I haven’t stopped crying in over two weeks," he said.
"What kind of place is this that would do this to a
married woman without telling her husband, the father
of the baby?"

"We asked if we could pray for him," said one of the
prayer team members. "As we prayed, the young man began
to cry again. Just imagine how he felt — betrayed,
helpless. We assured him that he will get through this
trial and that God loves him."

Vigil participants hugged him, and he thanked them for
being there on this rainy day. "Please keep being here,"
he said, and then returned to his car and drove away.

"While we did not save a baby from an abortion," said
the volunteer, "we brought Christ to a hurting father."

Please pray for this young man, who fears he may have
lost his child to abortion. Please pray as well for
his wife and for his family. Please pray that those
who are deceived by the abortion industry will be
awakened to the truth of God’s love — and the
awareness that all things are possible with God.

"And, if you are willing," the vigil participant said,
"please consider joining us as we keep vigil for these
40 Days for Life."

Today’s devotional is from Carmen Pate, a member of
the 40 Days for Life board of directors.

Pray to God who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine, to end abortion in America.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly
above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by
Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.

— Ephesians 3:20-21

REFLECTION by Carmen Pate, 40 Days for Life

God’s power working in and through His people is
unlimited and far beyond our comprehension when we
submit to God’s Word and Spirit. He receives glory
when we are obedient to His calling and faithfully
serve Him in His strength.

Consider God’s hand of providence on this nation
because of the faithfulness of a few who were totally
committed to God and His truths.

It is interesting to note the words of Mother Teresa
of Calcutta: "Yours is the one great nation in all
history which was founded on the precept of equal
rights and respect for all humankind, for the poorest
and weakest of us as well as the richest and

Mother Teresa, in addressing the Supreme Court of the
United States said, "Human rights are not a privilege
conferred by government. They are every human being’s
entitlement by virtue of his humanity. I have no new
teaching for America. I seek only to recall you to
faithfulness to what you once taught the world.

She continued, "Your nation was founded on the
proposition very old as a moral precept, but startling
and innovative as a political insight that human life
is a gift of immeasurable worth, and that it deserves,
always and everywhere, to be treated with the utmost
dignity and respect."

It is time to restore that dignity and respect. Our
God is able. Are we willing to remain faithful until
His work through us is done?
