A Good And Holy Rockford Pro-Lifer Passes Away

ProLifeCorner.com-  Rockford Il-  by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative  Many of you remember Alfonz Sumichrast who spent countless hours standing on the sidewalk outside of Rockford’s abortion mill.   His life was filled with hardship including years in a Communist prison for refusing to give up his Christian faith.  But greater than the hardships was his love for God and neighbor and the joy he brought to all he met.

Alfonz passed away at the age of 90 in Rockford on Friday June 13th at 3:00pm.  He will be cremated and his remains will be sent to his native Czechoslovakia.

Alfonz was a constant source of encouragement to the people in his life and even though he was well over 80 years old he would spend countless hours outside of the abortion mill holding a sign and praying for mothers and children in need.

Please pray for the repose of Alphonz’s soul:  Eternal rest grant unto Alfonz, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon him. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.

  1. What a beautiful life – given over to the service of Lord Jesus who has already enriched lives with spiritual treasures that will never grow old. Thank you for sharing this inspiring story and posting this video which will be preserved on YouTube as part of an earthly legacy.

  2. What a warm greeting he must have received from our Lord. He was a true saint in his life and an inspiration to all of us who had the blessing of knowing him.

  3. I was saddened to hear of the death of my friend, Alfonz Sumichrast. He was just a kind and gentle loving soul. I have known him since 1974. While stationed at St. Antthony’s Parish in Rockford from 1974-1979 he would frequently come to the parish for confession. And of course his persevering Pro-life witness was nothing short of heroic. I am confident that many thousands of Holy Innocents (aborted babies) have welcomed him into the Kingdom of Heaven.
I received the news of Alfonz;s passing on from a good Pro-life friend in Rockford. I live in Texas now (Austin), but occasionally I keep abreast on what’s going on in my hometown. Please pray for the Pro-life activities here in Texas. Many gains have been made, but the pro-abortionist candidates get a lot of money from out of state to further their pro-death culture and try to obstruct the will of the people of Texas who are overwhelmingly Pro-life. This Corpus Christi Sunday the Austin Cathedral of St, Mary along with the Knights of Columbus are having their annual Eucharistic procession to the State Capitol, but this year the procession will go inside the Capitol Rotunda with the permission of the state officials. Our Blessed Lord will give his blessing inside this state building, and Lord willing many many blessings will come about, not only for Texas, but for all our country.

  4. I loved Alfonz! He was a true servant and soldier of the Lord. I’m sorry I didn’t go to see him. Eternal rest grant unto Alfonz, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

  5. I have wondered if the Angels smile when an earthly Soul arrives. I now know that they do. How could they not when Alfonz arrived. Greeted by every child he stood for and prayed for must have been a wonderful “tickertape” arrival in our Lord’s Kingdom. You are in my heart Alfonz, by knowing you, I am increased.

EDITOR: What a beautiful tribute to a brave and gentle soul.
