Prayer For Advent

Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare people’s hearts for the coming of your Son. Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ. God of power and mercy, open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy, so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Need For Courage!

Richard Cardinal Cushing wrote about the church’s need for courage. He said: “If all the sleeping folks will wake up, and all the lukewarm folks will fire up, and all the disgruntled folks will sweeten up, and all the discouraged folks will cheer up, and all the depressed folks will look up, and all the estranged folks will make up, and all the gossiping folks will shut up, and all the dry bones will shake up, and all the true soldiers will stand up, and all the church members will pray up, and if the Savior of all will be lifted up then we can have the greatest renewal this world has ever known.” By Eric S. An edict from the Obama administration has ended the American experiment in religious liberty.

Dr Jennifer Roback Morse, PhD- No, I’m not exaggerating. The American experiment in religious liberty is officially over. The First Amendment provided institutional structures that allow different religions to peacefully coexist. All groups agree to not try to capture governmental structures for the benefit of their own particular denomination.

But the Obama administration has ended that truce.  The administration made a decision to require all employers to provide contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization.  The administration offers no religious exemption for people who have the audacity to believe that pregnancy is not an illness that needs to be always and everywhere prevented.

In effect, we have a new state religion, a new Established Church of the United States of America, with Barack Obama as its head. It is the religion of Secular Hedonism, the worldview that sex is a sterile recreational activity, with babies thrown in as an afterthought, an optional extra, for people with quirky life-style preferences.  The contraceptive mandate uses the full might of the US government to scrub the public square clean of any competing religious voices that dissent from the new orthodoxy.

But because this worldview is fundamentally irrational, it cannot stand on its own two feet. Some sexual activity does result in babies.  Not everyone wants their government acting as if the highest goal is that pleasure is to be sought.  Not everyone believes that the purpose of the government is to allow people to indulge themselves sexually, without a live baby ever resulting.

The Catholic Church for instance, famously opposes every precept of Secular Hedonism.  As a matter of fact, so did all of the Christian churches, right up until five minutes ago. The ancient Christian teaching is that marriage is the proper context for sexual activity and for child-bearing, for the good of children, women, and men alike, as well as society as a whole.

The government believes that this dissenting voice cannot be tolerated. It must be crushed. And, of course, from their point of view, they are perfectly correct. They have an established religion that says that every sexual act is intrinsically meaningless except for the meaning we might happen to assign it. They simply can’t allow someone to go around saying that each and every sexual act is sacred, and endowed by our Creator with inalienable significance.  From the point of view of Secular Hedonism, Catholicism must be crushed.

And of course, anyone else who dissents from the new orthodoxy must be crushed as well. That is why so many other faith traditions have joined in criticizing the Obama administration’s usurpation of power from civil society. The National Association of Evangelicals, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Orthodox Christians and Orthodox Jews have all criticized the administration’s attack on religious liberty. These religious bodies know that their religious liberties are at stake as well.

The religious truce is officially over. The Established Church of Secular Hedonism has declared war on the rest of us, enlisting the might of the United States government on their side. We will respond using nothing but peaceful means.

We used to refrain from making religious arguments in the public square. We thought it was our duty. We thought it was good strategy.  The Ruth Institute has specialized in defending the ancient Christian teachings, using non-religious arguments.  This no longer makes sense. The arguments are still good arguments.  But there is no longer any reason to hold back from proclaiming our faith. Our position deserves respect, not simply because it is our “deeply held religious belief”.  Our position deserves respect because it is grounded in reason and evidence, and in a far deeper understanding of the human person, and the human good.  The ancient Christian teachings on marriage, family and human sexuality are superior to the teachings of the Established Church of Secular Hedonism.

If we don’t respond firmly, the Obama Administration will assume they can get away with ending religious liberty. This website, StopHHS.org will become a clearing house of info about the insurance mandate. Go sign their petition.

Jobs, Welfare and Fish

ProLifeCorner.com-   by Larry Plachno- There is an old Chinese proverb that goes something like this: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Several Americans are now questioning whether we made the wrong turn by giving away fish instead of encouraging jobs and employment. What has happened is that if you give a man a fish on Monday, he will expect more fish on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This leads to welfare, entitlements and socialism.

That brings up another quotation, this time from former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money to spend.” Unfortunately for us, she has proven to be correct. Giving away all of those fish has proven to be costly for America. In order to pay for those free fish the United States has had to borrow from several sources, our children and grandchildren, and even China.

Equally disturbing is the fact that those darn costly fish have caused our elected officials to raise taxes on business and jobs. This, in turn, has caused a major reduction in job creation and jobs being outsourced to other countries where they are more welcome. A recent article in Time Magazine suggests that it might take as long a 33 months for us to dig out of our current unemployment problem because so many American jobs have been outsourced.

It seems that no one wants to talk about the fact that on April 1, 2012, Japan reduced its corporate tax rate to encourage jobs and investment in business in their nation. This move left the United States with the dubious distinction of having the highest corporate tax rate and of being the least competitive country for jobs and business among developed nations.

For at least 20 years, other developed nations have been cutting their tax rates to encourage business and jobs. Countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) now have an average tax rate of 25 percent. The rate in the United States is said to be 39.2 percent after including average state taxation. The United Kingdom reduced their corporate tax rate from 28 to 26 percent in 2011 and plans are to reduce it even further to 22 percent by 2014.

Many Americans are questioning the wisdom of giving away fish instead of encouraging jobs. What have we accomplished after years of giving away fish? The people who get the fish have not improved their situation one bit while the United States had gone badly in debt and is struggling with huge unemployment. What would happen if we gave away jobs instead of fish?

Ask the residents of the Principality of Liechtenstein, a small country in Europe. Faced with little in the way of natural resources, their officials made the decision to encourage business and jobs by reducing the corporate tax rate to a maximum of 18 percent. As a result, Liechtenstein is now the home of more than twice as many corporations as residents. Instead of giving away fish, Liechtenstein gives away jobs. Many residents of adjacent Switzerland and Austria commute into Liechtenstein daily because there are not enough Liechtensteiners to handle the number of jobs they have. That sounds like a problem many Americans wished we had.

I suggest that it is time for you to call, write or e-mail your elected officials and tell them that giving away fish has not worked and has created major financial problems for America. Instead, we need to reduce taxation and requirements in order to encourage investment in business and jobs in the United States. Giving people jobs makes a heck of a lot more sense than giving them fish.

No Disease, Disability Can Take Away Our Human Dignity

by Pamela Muller Swartzberg | LifeNews.com |  I have been a pro-life advocate for as long as I can remember. In recent years, my passion for life has grown to include a deeper understanding that pro-life advocacy is about much more than abortion. “Pro-life” encompasses all life, a fact which became abundantly clear to me as I walked with my father in the culmination of his life’s journey – walked with him through the years of Alzheimer’s disease.

Let me tell you a bit about my father, Jim, who passed away 3 years ago. Dad was and remains a hero. He was a helicopter pilot in the Korean War where he flew rescue missions that saved the lives of countless soldiers. He was a brilliant student and later a leader in his industry. He was a husband, father and grandfather beyond description. All who encountered him, whether in their personal lives or in business, knew immediately that they had met a master – a truly honorable, kind, generous man of great depth and humility.

Dad dealt with life’s triumphs and hardships with a grace and peace we should all strive to imitate. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, this did not change. He accepted his particular hardship with the same faith and trust that guided his whole life. Together with my mom, he continued to teach all who met him. In fact, he continues to teach and guide us all today.

My family has formed a team to raise awareness of this disease and those families who suffer through it. It is named “Jim’s Journey” because our dad’s whole life was a faith-filled journey attesting to the dignity of the human person in all he did. His earthly journey completed, we know he continues to guide us from his eternal resting place. I know I speak for my family, too. One of my nieces commented, while dad was still with us, that, “We can still sense our Grandpa, our leader, our role model … underneath the skin, and no disease can ever take his spirit away.” Another of his grandchildren, after his death, said, “To this day, the lessons of his life continue to shape the pattern of my own … he taught me empathy and compassion … the meaning of loving sacrifice … humility in the midst of success.” We all learned so much from mom and dad our whole lives, perhaps never more than during his last few years.

Often, when we hear about Alzheimer’s disease, we hear of “the loss of dignity” or that our loved one “isn’t really there anymore.” I reject that characterization. No disease can take away a person’s humanity. Ask anyone who encountered my mom and dad during his illness; to a person they will attest to the dignity and beauty exhibited by the obvious and total self-giving love between my parents.

Catholic Bishop Berates Obama; Best Sermon I have Heard in 20 years.

This Sermon is What True Christianity Looks Like.Tell Bishop Jenky You Stand With Him…Urge Other Bishops to Emulate Him…  Introduction by Randall Terry.

  Dear Friend,

I am still in a state of Blessed Shock. For years, we have prayed for a serving Bishop to speak with such clarity. Bishop Jenky of Peoria Illinois has risen to the challenge in this dark hour. As of right now – Easter Season of 2012 – Bishop Jenky stands like St. John Fisher, who was the only bishop to stand against Henry VIII.

This sermon speaks for itself. Bp. Jenky rebukes Obama, and makes comparisons to Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, and more and then–most critically–he talks about how Catholics VOTE. A link is at the bottom of the page to the entire sermon.

If you want to send a letter to every bishop in America, telling them you support bishop Jenky 100% – and urging them to emulate his courage – you can send a personal letter by fax (so you KNOW it will be read!) to nearly 200 bishops in America, and at the Vatican. I am sending my letter to American bishops and Vatican official right now. (Copy of my letter to bishops at bottom.)

———- here is a portion of Bishop Jenky’s magnificent sermon ———–

…We heard in today’s Second Reading from the Acts of the Apostles that the same Sanhedrin that had condemned Jesus was amazed at the boldness of Peter and John. Perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men, they recognized them as companions of Jesus. They warned them never again to teach, or speak to anyone, in the name of Jesus.

But the elders and the scribes might as well have tried to turn back the tide, or hold back an avalanche. Peter and John had seen the Risen Christ with their own eyes. Peter and John were filled with the Holy Spirit. They asked whether it is right “in the sight of God for us to obey you rather than God. It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard.”

…You know, it has never been easy to be a Christian and it’s not supposed to be easy! The world, the flesh, and the devil will always love their own, and will always hate us. As Jesus once predicted, they hated me, they will certainly hate you.

But our Faith, when it is fully lived, is a fighting faith and a fearless faith. Grounded in the power of the resurrection, there is nothing in this world, and nothing in hell, that can ultimately defeat God’s one, true, holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

For 2,000 years the enemies of Christ have certainly tried their best. But think about it. The Church survived and even flourished during centuries of terrible persecution, during the days of the Roman Empire.

The Church survived barbarian invasions. The Church survived wave after wave of Jihads. The Church survived the age of revolution. The Church survived Nazism and Communism.

And in the power of the resurrection, the Church will survive the hatred of Hollywood, the malice of the media, and the mendacious wickedness of the abortion industry.

The Church will survive the entrenched corruption and sheer incompetence of our Illinois state government, and even the calculated disdain of the President of the United States, his appointed bureaucrats in HHS, and of the current majority of the federal Senate.

May God have mercy on the souls of those politicians who pretend to be Catholic in church, but in their public lives, rather like Judas Iscariot, betray Jesus Christ by how they vote and how they willingly cooperate with intrinsic evil.

As Christians we must love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, but as Christians we must also stand up for what we believe and always be ready to fight for the Faith. The days in which we live now require heroic Catholicism, not casual Catholicism. We can no longer be Catholics by accident, but instead be Catholics by conviction.

In our own families, in our parishes, where we live and where we work – like that very first apostolic generation – we must be bold witnesses to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We must be a fearless army of Catholic men, ready to give everything we have for the Lord, who gave everything for our salvation.

Remember that in past history other governments have tried to force Christians to huddle and hide only within the confines of their churches like the first disciples locked up in the Upper Room.

In the late 19th century, Bismarck waged his “Kulturkampf,” a Culture War, against the Roman Catholic Church, closing down every Catholic school and hospital, convent and monastery in Imperial Germany.

Clemenceau, nicknamed “the priest eater,” tried the same thing in France in the first decade of the 20th Century.

Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care.

In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path.

Now things have come to such a pass in America that this is a battle that we could lose, but before the awesome judgement seat of Almighty God this is not a war where any believing Catholic may remain neutral.

This fall, every practicing Catholic must vote, and must vote their Catholic consciences, or by the following fall our Catholic schools, our Catholic hospitals, our Catholic Newman Centers, all our public ministries — only excepting our church buildings – could easily be shut down. Because no Catholic institution, under any circumstance, can ever cooperate with the instrinsic evil of killing innocent human life in the womb.

No Catholic ministry – and yes, Mr. President, for Catholics our schools and hospitals are ministries – can remain faithful to the Lordship of the Risen Christ and to his glorious Gospel of Life if they are forced to pay for abortions…

…The Risen Christ is our Eternal Lord; the Head of his Body, the Church; our High Priest; our Teacher; our Captain in the well-fought fight.

We have nothing to fear, but we have a world to win for him. We have nothing to fear, for we have an eternal destiny in heaven. We have nothing to fear, though the earth may quake, kingdoms may rise and fall, demons may rage, but St. Michael the Archangel, and all the hosts of heaven, fight on our behalf.

No matter what happens in this passing moment, at the end of time and history, our God is God and Jesus is Lord, forever and ever.

Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!

Christ wins! Christ reigns! Christ commands!

American and Vatican Bishops, Please Stand with Bishop Jenky.

Greeting in the Name of the Risen Christ.

As you know, Bishop Jenky of Peoria Illinois recently delivered a powerful rebuke to President Obama – by name – in a sermon he delivered on April 14, 2012.

Bishops, please remember our Saints: John the Baptist rebuked Herod by name; Jeremiah prophesied by name to kings Jehoiakim and Zedekiah; Elijah rebuked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel by name. Daniel rebuked Belshaz’zar, the pagan king of Babylon, to his face.

Justin Martyr rebuked three Caesars in succession by name; St. Athanasius fled for his life because he rebuked Emperor Constantius, describing him as a forerunner of the Antichrist.

St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, was put to death after excommunicating King Boleslaus II for his scandalous lifestyle. Both St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More opposed Henry the Eighth for his refusal to obey the Church – and lost their heads because of their clarity and courage.

Our need in this hour is for courageous Bishops follow these examples, and boldly rebuke Obama by name, and form the consciences of the faithful in this critical election year. And clearly, you will not be martyred for your stand.

Bishop Jenky is thus far the only U.S. Bishop to publicly “connect the dots” regarding Obama, tyranny, the murder of babies, oppressive tyrants of the past, and VOTING.

Catholic voters (and all Christian voters for that matter) cannot ethically vote for Obama. If they do, they enable him to murder babies, and attack the Church…and cooperate with mortal sin. You know this to be true. We need you – the Bishops of the Catholic Church – to say the truth publicly as Bishop Jenky did.

We the faithful will follow you, stand with you, serve you, and fight beside you if you will simply lead us courageously.

Sincerely, Randall Terry

WE’RE GETTING TO JON STEWART

According to the Tampa Bay Times, while performing in Florida on Saturday night, Jon Stewart “offered some serious messages, railing against cable TV news channels’ ‘outrage machine’ after noting the Catholic League boycotted him for a joke placing a manger between a woman’s legs.” Stewart then said, “I’m not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance.” The newspaper said this remark was made “in a rare moment of seriousness."

Catholic League president Bill Donohue picked up on what Stewart said:

Nice to know the Catholic League is on Jon Stewart’s mind. Unfortunately for him, we’re going to hang around for weeks, contacting his sponsors and religious leaders from all the major religions. We’re sending them the “vagina manger” picture he is so proud of, asking everyone to pressure Comedy Central into getting Stewart to apologize.

We really don’t need to boycott anyone as the picture is so indefensible—putting a nativity scene ornament in between the legs of a naked woman—that no one save the maliciously sick would even try to defend it.

The good news is that Stewart lashed out at us in a serious moment—the e-mails that are pouring into Comedy Central are obviously getting to him. We’ll see who is branded as “ignorant” when our campaign is done.

A Suspected Murderer Goes Free!

Rockford IL.-4-22-2012 – A commentary by the Rockford Pro-life Initiative.    While State’s Attorney Spends Countless Hours Prosecuting A Pro-life Citizen for Jay-Walking,  A Suspected Murderer Goes Free! Winnebago County State’s Attorney has not been pleased with Rockford area pro-lifers ever since they asked him to file charges for assault against the boyfriend of a Democratic Rockford city councilwoman when he attacked a pro-lifer in 2010.  Please refer to link below.

Sadly, for the people of Winnebago County, his apparent bias against pro-lifers and a  pro-life citizen for taking a few steps onto a quiet residential street may be costing the people of Winnebago County a lot more than wasted man hours, resources, and time for the State Attorney’s Office and the already over-burdened court system.

Because pro-life citizen Kevin Rilott questioned a Rockford police officer about a skull the officer was wearing on his uniform cap while at the Rockford abortion mill, Mr. Rilott was ticketed for jay-walking on a quiet residential street that hundreds of people cross every week, free from police harassment..

Because the courts did not know what to do with this flimsy charge and the State’s Attorney’s continued motions, this jay-walking case has been going through the courts for over a year with at least 15 hearings to date and more scheduled for the future.

On April 17, 2012, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney issued a ten page document to the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Winnebago County attempting to explain why this jay-walking case should even proceed.  The document had numerous factual errors, outright lies, and even listed an incorrect location where the alleged jay-walking incident took place.

This ridiculous jay-walking charge would just be a bad joke if it were not for accused murderer Antwan Maxey. Read Article

Maxey was accused of killing Charles Spivey at a house party in 2011.  Maxey was arrested and jailed by the Rockford police. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney did not bring accused killer Antwan Maxey to trial in the 120 days required – so Judge Ronald White has dropped the homicide charges him!  During this time period a pro-life citizen was being forced into court numerous times for a jaywalking charge.

Is it possible that if the Winnebago County State’s Attorney had not spent so much time, energy, and resources on a bogus jay-walking charge, he might have actually had time to do the work necessary to bring to trial an accused murderer in Winnebago County?

At least we know as long as Joe Bruscato is Winnebago County State’s Attorney, alleged jay-walkers on quiet residential streets will be held accountable – it’s a shame we can’t say the same thing for accused murderers.

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL IS CLUELESS

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the remarks made last night by Lawrence O’Donnell on his MSNBC show:  Lawrence O’Donnell has issues with the Catholic Church. That’s his problem. But that doesn’t give him the right to grossly distort reality. Last night he opened fire on Bishop Daniel Jenky, the Vatican and me.

Peoria Bishop Jenky recently said that President Obama’s radical secular agenda is violative of the First Amendment. Moreover, he warned that this path to religious intolerance had been followed before by the likes of Hitler and Stalin. Anyone is free to agree or disagree, but it is just plain stupid to argue that Jenky is putting the tax-exempt status of the Catholic Church in jeopardy. O’Donnell obviously knows nothing more about the First Amendment right to free speech than he does the right to religious liberty. Maybe Rev. Al can educate him.

The right of the Vatican to discipline its flock is called into question by O’Donnell. He is upset because the Vatican is concerned about some nuns who are not in line with Church teachings on abortion and gay rights. Of course, if an MSNBC host were all of a sudden to adopt a pro-life or pro-traditional marriage position, he would be fired. By contrast, the Vatican is quite liberal in its handling of such matters.

O’Donnell says the Catholic League “has absolutely no official affiliation” with the Church, and that it is run by a “fraudulent operator.” Really? While we are independent, maybe O’Donnell can explain why the Catholic League is listed in the Official Catholic Directory and has the support of many bishops. To show how clueless the man is, he then interviewed Sister Jeannine Gramick and an official from Dignity. Last year, Donald Cardinal Wuerl, representing the bishops, said that Gramick’s New Ways Ministry group was not authorized “to identify itself as a Catholic organization.” Similarly, Dignity has long been rejected as a Catholic entity. And we’re the fraud? O’Donnell is out of his league.

A Homily By Bishop Daniel Jenky:  (Edited for Length)

Bishop Daniel Jenky: The Current Administration Is Going The Way Of Hitler And Stalin!

It Is Not Easy To Be A Christian

There is only one basic reason why Christianity exists and that is the fact that Jesus Christ truly rose from the grave. Meeting the Risen Lord had changed everything about these first disciples, and knowing the Risen Lord should also change everything about us.

You know, it has never been easy to be a Christian and it’s not supposed to be easy!

The Church Has Survived Many Attacks By Her Enemies

This Administration Is Going The Way Of  Hitler And Stalin

No Catholic ministry – and yes, Mr. President, for Catholics our schools and hospitals are ministries – can remain faithful to the Lordship of the Risen Christ and to his glorious Gospel of Life if they are forced to pay for abortions.

Now remember what was the life-changing experience that utterly transformed those fearful and quaking disciples into fearless, heroic apostles. They encountered the Risen Christ. They reverenced his sacred wounds. They ate and drank with him.

We Have Nothing To Fear

We have nothing to fear, but we have a world to win for him. We have nothing to fear, for we have an eternal destiny in heaven. We have nothing to fear, though the earth may quake, kingdoms may rise and fall, demons may rage, but St. Michael the Archangel, and all the hosts of heaven, fight on our behalf.

No matter what happens in this passing moment, at the end of time and history, our God is God and Jesus is Lord, forever and ever.
