ProLifeCorner.com- by Larry Plachno- His Holiness, Pope Francis recently announced that he was calling a synod of bishops to meet in October of 2014 to discuss issues relating to marriage. Other religious leaders, including our own Bishop David Malloy of Rockford, had already started to concentrate more on marriage. As a result, there is an increasing emphasis on marriage in religious circles. Continue reading
From Christian Action News (CAN)- Advent is the preparatory season leading up to Christmas. ProLifeCorner.com- December 3, 2013- ByBill Donohue on the lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) against the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB):
In 2010, a pregnant woman went to a Catholic hospital after her water broke. She later claimed that she was never appraised of possible dangers to her health, and the option of choosing an abortion. The ACLU is suing the USCCB because it says the bishops’ conference is responsible for the Michigan hospital’s decision not to discuss the abortion option. The baby died shortly after birth. Rockford, Il – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 12-2-2013 – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative - As many people spent the first Sunday of Advent shopping, a group of Christians prayed and held pro-life signs to remind the holiday shoppers that Jesus was once a child in the womb. Continue reading
ProLifeCorner.com- Today is the first week of Advent and Christians of all denominations are preparing for the coming of our Lord and Savior. Every year at this time, we at the ProLifeCorner like to remind ourselves and others to keep Christ in Christmas and especially keep Him in our heart. It is so easy to get caught up in the commercialism of the so-called holiday season. This is why we are so happy that most Christian denominations celebrate Advent. Many Christians use the advent wreath to help us visualize the light of the world, Jesus, coming closer and closer until His birth is celebrated on Christmas Day. It is a simple practice: four candles are placed around the wreath and each week of Advent another candle is lit. The first week one candle is lit, the second week two, etc. So each week getting closer to Christmas, more candles will be lit signifying that the light of the world, Jesus Christ is coming into our lives. ProLifeCorner.com – 11-29-2013 – by Staff – Many of the Rockford pro-life advocates are familiar with our good friend Barney Baxter. Barney recently underwent a triple bypass, a very serious operation which can be a traumatic and painful event in one’s life. Barney sent us a beautiful note which we have posted below. He was hoping we would include this in our Thanksgiving post. When we hear Barney’s words, we realize that being thankful to our Lord for His many blessings and our family and friends, should not be for just one holiday but for every day of the year. God bless you, Barney. May our Lord bless you with a speedy recovery. Continue reading
Accept O Lord, our thanks and praise you for all you have done for us. We thank You for…
The splendor of creation, the beauty of this world, the wonder of life and the mystery of love.
For the blessing of family and friends, for the loving care that surrounds us on every side, for setting us at task, which demands our best efforts, for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us, and for disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on You alone.
Above all, we thank Your Son Jesus Christ, for the Truth of His Word and for the example of His Life, for His steadfast obedience by which He overcame temptation, for His dying through which He overcame death, for His rising to life again in which we are raised to life in Your Kingdom.
Grant us the gift of Your Holy Spirit that we may know Him and make Him known, and through Him at all times and in all places, give thanks to You in all things, Amen!
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the ProLifeCorner
