Fair Talk 2006

We’ve finally got our pro-life booth for 2006 set up at the fair. It took a lot of work and man hours to get it ready but we feel it’s worth it. Just to let you know how much is involved in preparation for the booth, here’s a short synopsis: We start early in the year, usually about February, trying to decide on an appropriate theme. We felt this year’s theme; “Milestones of Early Life” would be an excellent educational tool since it shows the development of the baby at each month of pregnancy. To complement the posters we purchased from Heritage House’76, we have brochures to hand out that detail each picture.

After deciding the theme we have to inventory our brochures, pins and any other fair property so we have an idea of what needs to be purchased. We always try to get new material to distribute and keep up to date with the latest happenings in the pro- life area. After ordering the needed supplies we need to finalize our rental for the booth and line up people to work at the booth each day of the fair. Without our loyal volunteers, we would not be able to have a presence in the fair community. Out thanks and prayers go out to them each year.

Finally it’s the day before the start of the fair and it’s time to set up the booth. A crew of four or more usually goes to the fairgrounds with supplies in tow and we set up the tables, backboards, posters, and other needed materials. This takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. The fair will start the next day and everything must be in proper order for the volunteers who so generously give of their time to work at the booth and talk to people who come over for a visit.

As you can see, many hours are put into getting our booth prepared. When you see the booth, you can now realize that it takes many hours of work to achieve what might look like a simple event. We want this to be a memorable experience for everyone who visits our booth and more importantly a truly educational experience. We know for a fact that our booth and the materials we share with the public have saved babies lives. We’ve had mothers return with their baby the following year, and tell us they had considered abortion but after seeing our booth and especially the fetal models, they decided to keep their baby. Were all the hours of work and toil worth it? You Bet!!

Now that we have this wonderful tool, that is the presence on the web, we thought this year we’d add general pictures of our county fair; the midway, rides, some of the displays; a kind of virtual fair tour. Maybe in the dead of a cold dark winter, we’ll all enjoy stepping back to a warm August day and seeing children enjoying the rides and the midway. Also, we’re hoping that some of our volunteers can share with us their experiences with the public, good or bad, and possibly enlighten us as to the concerns and/or misconceptions of the general public concerning life issues.

Welcome to our 2006 photo gallery. As you know the Stephenson County fair is a very large and well attended event in our area. By showing these images of the fair we are hoping to bring some pleasant memories to you, the viewer, of this wonderful summer event at the end of August. We realize it would be impossible to put everyone’s favorite ride, concession, event, etc. here. It is our hope that what we did capture on film will be pleasing to you. Click here and enjoy!
