ProLifeCorner- Rockford IL.- In late January this year, Holy Family Parish hosted its 20th annual Respect Life banquet. We are especially pleased to bring you this report; a good friend of the ProLifeCorner, Steven Garbe, has supplied us with the background information and pictures which will make this a more informative report. We would also like to acknowledge that the videos contained upon this page were produced and directed by Stephen King Photographer, Rockford Illinois.
The Respect life Dinner was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford, IL on January 30, 2015. We started off with the reading of a note of regret from Rev. Msgr. Eric R. Barr for not being able to attend, and a thoughtful prayer. This was followed by the 2015 Winner of the 7-8 grade Religious Freedom Essay Contest. Then finishing with the 2015 Winner of the St Michael’s Defender of Life Award. We had dinner, then the Keynote Speaker, Bro. Paul O’Donnell spoke.
The photos show Collin Mendoza receiving the award for his essay. They also show Mary O’Grady in the center receiving the St. Michael award from Patricia Bainbridge (left), former Director of the Respect Life Office at the Diocese.
There are two videos here from the Holy Family Respect Life Banquet on Friday, January 30. The first video is Brother Paul O’Donnell, a Franciscan Brother of Peace, who was our Keynote Speaker. Bro. Paul is Chairman of the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network. He was also a spokesman for the Schiavo family when they were trying to save Terri in 2003 to 2005. The end of that video has Bishop Doran’s comments, following Bro. Paul’s talk.
The second video shows Collin Mendoza, a seventh-grader at Holy Family, reading his winning Pro-Life Essay. It also show the presentation of the St. Michael Defender of Life award to Mary O’Grady. Mary has been involved in the development of the OSF Fertility Care Clinic here in Rockford. (The Fertility Care Clinic is staffed by Drs. Lim and Go-Lim.) Mary was also appointed by Bishop Doran to work with the Catholic Conference of Illinois to promote Natural Family Planning.
