Sanctity of Life Memorial Freeport IL

Freeport IL- Sanctity of Life Memorial is located in a lovely pastoral setting at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, just south of Freeport, IL on Highway 26. It is situated on the back side of the chapel on the south side of the Gardens.

The Sanctity of Life Memorial truly is a place for healing. It is dedicated to all who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, sudden death syndrome (SIDS) or abortion.

We recognize the fact that abortion, miscarriage, and SIDS not only effect the mother and father, but other children in the family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who love the mother and who mourn with her.

A bench is provided so one can sit, meditate and give their pains to the Lord.  This Memorial was dedicated in 1998.  There is a stone with a plaque mounted on which reads:  This Memorial stands as a testimony to the sanctity of all life, and as a place of healing for those who have lost a child through miscarriage, sudden death, or abortion.

… For the lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and will guide them to fountains of the waters of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.   Revelation 7:17

The pain of loss will never go away unless it is given to our Lord Who understands all. No matter the circumstances involved in the loss of the baby, whether it be from miscarriage, SIDS, or the intentional taking of the baby’s life through abortion, healing can take place. Abortion can be forgiven by our Lord Who is love and forgiveness itself. One might say, yes, but “I can’t forgive myself. ” It’s hard but you must. We are given many examples of how much our Lord loves us and how far He will go to forgive. A few of our favorite examples are:

Mary Magdalene, who was involved in a terrible line of work, prostitution. Our Lord forgave her and she ceased in that sin and lived a saintly life bathed in the light and love of our Lord.

Then there was Saul, an evil, wicked man who not only persecuted Christians but went so far as to torture and kill Christ’s followers. Saul became a new creature, he became Paul and one of the greatest Apostles of our Lord.

One might say that was 2000 years ago, that’s not now. True. So what? Jesus Christ is the same today as yesterday or 2000 years ago.  Today, right now, His love and forgiveness is timeless and knows no bounds and He is waiting for those who suffer to come to Him.

Location:  Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens is located at 2514 IL. Route 26 S., Freeport, IL   It is directly west across the highway from WalMart.  The memorial is located behind the chapel on the southwest grounds.

EDITOR: Thanks! We would also like to acknowledge all the many people who have contributed their time, talent, prayers, and donations of many sorts to SCRL and the Sanctity of Life Memorial. If we have done any good, it is because of all of you.

  2. This post reminds me of what I just read in “Handbook for Today’s Catholic” a wonderful little pamphlet that speaks simply to the heart. On page 56 it says” Sin is a tragic reality. But the sacrament of penance is a joyful reunion. Chapter 15 of Luke’s Gospel expresses this joy poignantly: the Pharisees accuse Jesus of being too merciful. In response, Jesus tells three parables. In the first, GOD is like a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to seek one who is lost. When he finds it, he is filled with joy [1443 (number refers to the index of Catechism of the Catholic Church)]
