Benedict XVI, Defender of Life

By By Mitch Striedl – While much has been written about the papal legacy of Benedict XVI since his surprise announcement that he was resigning, I would like to add some of my own thoughts. If you have regularly read Life Matters, you have no doubt seen a fair share of quotes from Pope Benedict XVI. Part of my lasting memory of the papacy of Benedict XVI will be his strong defense of life and his ability to help illuminate the understanding that respect for life is an issue that is not just one among many, but rather foundational to all other issues. Whether the discussion was about development of nations, peace, the environment, or something else, Pope Benedict XVI was able to illustrate how respect for life was at the same time interconnected with these issues, but also singularly important.
