Editors note: I found this memo on my desk this morning and I know we have to be careful when we speak in the name of the Lord. But this certainly does sound like it could have come from our Savior. What do you think?

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. How I personally feel about this celebration can be understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don’t care what you call the day. Blessing Your Christmas Tree

The use of the Christmas tree is relatively modern. Its origins are found in the medieval mystery plays that depicted the tree of para­dise and the Christmas light or candle that sym­bolized Christ, the Light of the world. According to custom, the Christmas tree is set up just before Christmas and may remain in place until the Solemnity of Epiphany. The lights of the tree are illuminated after the prayer of blessing.
