ProLifeCorner – Freeport Illinois- For many years various cultures have celebrated St. Joseph’s feast day, March 19, with a St. Joseph’s Altar. The custom began after a famine/drought in Sicily. After asking St. Joseph for his intercession, rain came and the people rejoiced. They celebrated with an altar of food and flowers in thanks for the prayers of St. Joseph, then the food was donated to the poor.
St. Joseph’s altar has continued in many parishes, especially those with a large Italian population. St. Joseph’s Church in Freeport, Il. has always been known as the “German parish” in town. However, our pastor, Fr. Timothy Barr, suggested we have a celebration of St. Joseph’s feast day to honor our patron saint. Cynthia Saar and Mary Julius traveled to Rockford to meet with Rosie Sheriden, who has a St. Joseph Altar in her home every other year. St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Rockford, Il has a St. Joseph altar every year. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Freeport Illinois – Madonna Renewal Center in Freeport needs help this Saturday, Feb 6 2016, from 9:00-12:00 AM.
The Madonna Renewal Center is moving forward; mold and asbestos have been removed from the five story future home of the Madonna Renewal Center.
Project leader for the Madonna Renewal Center (MRC) Roger L. Kampmier had this to say. “As of this time we have removed a lot of metal from the walls of our building, but the number of volunteers turning out to help has been low. Please see if you can spare some time for the Lords work.” Roger further stated “We will provide dust masks for those coming to help. Please bring gloves for your hands to protect against cuts while moving metal to the staging area. I will need some of the men attending to bring crow bars and Saws-All’s to finish the remaining metal removal that is needed. We have basically finished the first floor to the third floor and still have metal to demo out for the fourth and fifth floors. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Freeport/Rockford Illinois- The Knights of Columbus are organizing a group from Freeport to go with the Diocese of Rockford to the March for Life in Washington DC. All are welcome!
Coming to the March for Life is a great way to find solidarity with 300,000 other people from the US that are also pro-life. Majority of those there are college age and down, though you need not be young to participate. The energy is uplifting to see so many people motivated by love to stand up for life before our elected officials. We will be offering prayers, learning more about life and have an opportunity to see our country’s capitol. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Rockford’s Life Chain will take place Sunday Oct 4, from 2-3pm at the corner of Alpine and Highcrest. Easy parking and pro-life signs will be available in the parking lot of Holy Family Church. Now more than ever we need to show our community that the people of Rockford will stand in public and defend life as long as one child is in danger of abortion.
This years Life Chain takes on special significance with the revelations of the industrial scale nature of the killing of children by Planned Parenthood and the trafficking of human body parts by the abortion industry. As Christians we must expose the killing of innocent children to the public. We must also pray and do penance for the killing of so many children by abortion. Continue reading →

ProLifeCorner- – Freeport, Il – It’s here! For several weeks we have been waiting for a special car to arrive so we can present it to everyone. That day has arrived!
First let’s get a little background to let you know why all of us involved with the Madonna Renewal Center (MRC) are so excited about this car. After all, a car is just a car-right? Wrong! This car is a vintage automobile donated to the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary so they can raffle it off. This will mean a wonderful contribution to the restoration of the Madonna Renewal Center. The donor wishes to remain anonymous so we respect his/her wishes and can only say “Thank you and God bless you” whoever you may be. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Freeport, Il – by Annarae – On Tuesday, February 17, over two hundred people braved the icy cold winds to enjoy good food, fellowship, and to help a worthy cause, the renovation of the former St. Francis Hospital. This event was held in the lovely facilities of the First Lutheran Church in Freeport. We are grateful to Pastor Keith Johnson and to the First Lutheran Church community for allowing us to use their facilities, not only for this event but for graciously allowing the Sisters and the various committees to hold their monthly meetings there.
The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), our “Blue Nuns” held a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for their project, the Madonna Renewal Center, which will be a place of healing and hope to women. To say this event was a success would be an understatement! A steady stream of hungry folks kept all the volunteer kitchen crew busy the entire time. Everyone raved about how wonderful everything tasted and many asked when the next dinner would be held. Spaghetti, meat balls or sauce, salad with a tasty Italian style dressing, garlic bread and a beverage made a filling and oh, so enjoyable meal, or perhaps I should say feast. This was all topped off with an array of desserts that filled over two long tables from which one could pick a generous portion of cakes, cookies, or pies. Trust me, no one went away hungry! ProLifeCorner- Freeport Illinois- By Fr. Timothy Barr- I am sure we have all heard about the marijuana plantations going up all over in Illinois, and especially in Freeport. There seems to be a rush to get everything up and going, but maybe we should really look at what the effects of something like this will be. The Church does not teach that marijuana is an intrinsic evil, but it is a mind altering drug. It should be treated with great care. Continue reading →
