Making Excuses

Making Excuses

ProLifeCorner-   “And to another [Jesus] said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”

And Jesus said to one, “Follow me.” And he replied, “I will follow you, Lord, right after I check the day’s market reports.”

But Jesus said, “You cannot be my disciple if your concern for the poor and destitute does not match your concern for your portfolio.

Jesus said to another, “Follow me!”

And she replied, “I will follow you, Lord, right after I meet with my accountant to set-up my 401-K.”

But Jesus said, “You cannot be my disciple if your eternal life’s vision cannot see beyond the age of retirement.”

Jesus said to the teenager, “Follow me.”

And the teen replied, “I will follow you, Lord, as soon as I get back from soccer practice, meeting my friends at the mall, and updating my Facebook page.”

But Jesus said, “You cannot be my disciple if it is just another something on your schedule.”

Jesus said to the mom and dad, “Follow me.”

And the parents said, “We will follow you, Lord, as soon as we are assured that our child is loved and cared for.”

But Jesus said, “You cannot be my disciples until you realize that to love and care for your child is to be my disciple.” Continue reading

Religious Freedom / Pro-Life Rally Rockford Illinois

Religious Freedom / Pro-Life Rally Rockford Illinois

ProLifeCorner-  Rockford Il.-

On Monday June 13th, Christians from Winnebago County came together to pray outside of the Winnebago County Health Department that fired Pediatric Nurse Sandra Mendoza because of her refusal to refer mothers to abortion clinics.  This is another attack on religious freedom and human life by government officials who believe they are above the moral law.

This rally had four goals:

  1. It was a sign of faith, love, and trust by Christians in Jesus Christ.
  1. A show of support for Sandra Mendoza.
  1. It was an appeal through prayer and public witness to the Winnebago County Health Department to stop the immoral and deadly practice of sending mothers and children to abortion mills.
  1. A prayerful and public stand for religious freedom and against anti-Christian bigotry.

Christ’s Peace vs the Government’s Peace

Christ’s Peace vs the Government’s Peace

ProLifeCorner- Homily given at midnight mass.

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

It was the great Roman boast: Ara Pacis Augustae – which means, “the era of Augustus’ peace.”

During the first and second centuries of the common era, the Roman empire, from Iberia to Greece, enjoyed a period of relative prosperity and tranquility. In one of the great propaganda campaigns of history, Caesar Augustus was hailed as a “god” and the “savior of the world” for the peace he enforced. Continue reading

The Kingdom of God Versus the Kingdom of Man

The Kingdom of God Versus the Kingdom of Man

ProLifeCorner- Frank Munda-

If we refuse to be ruled by God and his laws, then God will allow us to be ruled by tyrants.

It is very difficult not to think about the evil in the world today. My wife Chris and I have spent the better part of the last 30 years talking about the evils of abortion. 9/11 bought a new form of terrorism into all of our lives. Often when I write of abortion, promiscuity, apathy, and the selfishness of the world I sometimes feel like the little brother who is pointing a finger at a sibling and crying out what he or she is doing wrong. I’ve even been told that I’m good at pointing out the problem, followed by “how about giving us some solutions.”  In this article, once again, I will not be able to offer any solutions, but thanks to a recent homily by Pastor Timothy Barr we might have a better sense of direction. God Wants You

God Wants You

ProLifeCorner-        In God’s order there is work for everyone to do. He doesn’t call many to be a Billy Graham or a Blessed Mother Teresa, but he does call all of us to be faithful in using the gifts and abilities he has given to us. In case we don’t feel worthy to be of much use to God, it can help to look at the frailties of many of God’s servants in the Bible.

Did you know that: “Moses stuttered. David’s armor didn’t fit, John Mark was rejected by Paul, Hosea’s wife was a prostitute, Amos’s only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning, Jacob was a liar, David had an affair, Solomon was too rich, Abraham was too old, David was too young, Timothy had ulcers, Peter was afraid of death, Lazarus was dead, John was self-righteous, Jesus was poor, Naomi was a widow, Paul was a murderer, so was Moses. Jonah ran from God, Miriam was a gossip, Gideon and Thomas doubted, Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal, Elijah was burned out, John the Baptist was a loudmouth, Martha was a worry-wart, Samson had long hair, Noah got drunk. Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse? So did Peter as did Paul.” Continue reading

A BATTERING RAM OF LIBERALISM

ProLifeCorner- Beaumont, Alberta, Canada –  Our friend Mark Pickup has been inspiring us with his writings for many years.  Mark and his wife LaRee live in Canada and the problems they are facing regarding religious freedom and the murder of the pre-born child through state sponsored abortion and state sponsored euthanasia is as bad if not worse than here in the United States.  He gives an example of the relentless attacks on the rights of Christians to practice their religion, even within the walls of their own schools.  It is time for Christians of good will, priests, pastors, and Bishops to stand up and defend Christ and His church and say “enough is enough they have gone too far.” Let us return to the principles that this country was founded upon  and take the state sponsored religion of Secular Humanism out of our schools, and once again allow us to call upon the protection and the blessings of our God.  Continue reading

Poverty, Employment and Marriage

Poverty, Employment and Marriage. Love your neighbor by reducing poverty

ProLifeCorner-  By Larry Plachno

Jesus Christ admonished us to love our neighbor. One way of doing that is by reducing poverty in our country. There has been an increasing concern in recent years about the growing poverty in the United States, our decreasing middle class and fewer traditional families. Not unexpectedly, all of these are interconnected.

Numerous programs and plans have been suggested or put in place in recent decades to deal with these problems. They range from secular charity programs to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development administered by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. However, many of these programs have come under fire because they tend to deal with the effects of the problem instead of dealing with the causes of poverty and trying to reduce or eliminate it. Jesus Christ, our Economy and our Politics

ProLifeCorner-   By Larry Plachno-  How much of a connection is there between Jesus Christ, our economy and our politics?  The answer is considerably more than you might think, particularly once you understand that moral relativism is effectively the opposite of Christianity. Having spent more than 20 years working with statistics surrounding interconnected social problems, I can tell you that all of this not only becomes increasingly simple but also logical.

When pressed, Jesus Christ gave us two very simple and basic commandments: love of God and love of neighbor. Since God sent His Son to suffer and die to atone for our sins, love of God means judging our actions and decisions as to whether they are good or evil. Being a follower of Jesus Christ means that good is what is best for others and society. Continue reading
