Is Jesus a Hypocrite?

Is Jesus a Hypocrite?

“And call no man on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.”

In her recent book entitled, Hope Will Find You, Rabbi Naomi Levy writes about the preaching course she took in rabbinical school. It was taught by an elderly rabbi, wise and learned, who became a beloved friend and mentor to the young rabbinical student.

At their last meeting before her graduation, Naomi asked: “Rabbi, what words of wisdom do you have for me as I become a rabbi?”

The eminent rabbi sat in silence for a few moments. And then he spoke these words:

Never … wear .. brown.”

That was it. That’s all Naomi got. Never wear brown? Was he kidding?

But as her life as a rabbi and spouse and parent unfolded, Naomi came to understand exactly what the rabbi meant. Naomi writes:

Are We Living in an Era of Heaven and Hell on Earth?

Are We Living in an Era of Heaven and Hell on Earth?

ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno

Larry-150x1 blue     The demography coming out of the recent 2016 Presidential election is suggesting that we are living in an era of Heaven and Hell on earth. This is bringing up several questions: What is the cause of why areas are different? Is Christianity more than just a religion? And how important is traditional marriage to society?

For many years now, the demographers have been telling us that you can predict elections based on an area’s fertility rate – effectively the interest in bringing children into our world. Areas with a high fertility rate tend to elect conservative candidates and vote for conservative issues. Areas with a low fertility rate tend to elect liberal candidates and vote for liberal issues.

In recent years these differences have become increasingly polarized and more sharply defined. For decades now, families have been moving out of the inner cities and into suburban and rural areas. At the same time, singles have moved into the big cities for education, employment or activities. The differences between the two areas have become increasingly obvious. Continue reading

Prosperity, Human Dignity, Reward, and Punishment

Prosperity, Human Dignity, Reward, and Punishment

“Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus received what was bad, but now he is comforted here, and you are in torment.”

Mattie Dixon lived all of her life in a small town. She didn’t have a will; she hadn’t taken care of anything before she died at the age of eighty-nine.

Mattie was a widow. She couldn’t have children; but she had some distant great grand-nieces, nephews, and cousins – maybe. They didn’t attend her funeral; they didn’t really know her. They didn’t know what to do; what would happen to the house, the property, the mementos and the personal effects and all!

Finally, the taxes and other bills had to be paid. So the auctioneer came, and strangers crawled around all the personal effects of Mattie Dixon. There was her wedding ring, one of those heavy ones. When Mattie was alive, if you said to her, “Mattie, I love that ring, I’ll give you a thousand dollars for it,” she would turn that ring on her finger and say, “Fifty-six years of faithful marriage, and you want to buy this? I wouldn’t sell you this for ten million dollars!” Continue reading

What Is Christianity?

Is Christianity a Religion, a Guide for a Better Society, or a Political Indicator?

ProLifeCorner-   By Larry Plachno

Is Christianity a religion, a guide for a better society, or an indicator of political affiliation or leaning? The somewhat surprising answer is “all of the above.” In recent decades, researchers have found that the basic rules of Jesus Christ are endorsed and supported by reports and statistics surrounding social problems as a way to improve our society. Now, the researchers and demographers are also finding that Christianity can also be a major indicator of our political directions. This creates an unexpected link between church and state while adding a great deal of credibility to Christ’s teachings of nearly 2,000 years ago.

Christianity as a Guide for a Better Society

Christianity is based on the fact that God sent His Son to earth to suffer and die to atone for our sins. This tells us two things. One is that God is very concerned about good and evil. More sobering is the second obvious conclusion which is that some atonement is required for doing evil. Continue reading

Desiring Heaven Where Love is Complete

ProLifeCorner- Beaumont  Alberta Canada-  By Mark Pickup-  I remember sitting with my father in a boat on the middle of a still prairie lake. It was August of 1969 and I was sixteen years old. A cool mist rose from the surface of the lake that August morning. Fishing was good just after sunrise and so there we sat still half-asleep, casting our lines into the water.

It was the last summer he and I would have together. I think we both suspected it. Dad suffered a terrible series of devastating heart attacks the year earlier. My family almost lost him. He was only a shell of his former robust self; his health was destroyed. Continue reading

Homily On The Happiness Of Heaven

ProLifeCorner.com-    “… He parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.”  Concert pianist and composer Paul Sullivan remembers the day he discovered the enchantment of music. “On a September morning when I was nine years old, I showed up for the first day of choir school in Boston. I was one of forty boys raging around the choir room, whooping it up and babbling and trying to find our assigned seats, when suddenly the choir master entered – and the room fell silent. He smiled gently at us and told us to open our hymn books to a particular page, where we found a Bach chorale. He played our starting notes quietly on the piano, paused for a moment of silence, and gave us a downbeat. What happened next changed me forever. Continue reading
