Using Your God-Given Talents and Resources to Witness to Christ
“John was sent from God … He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.”
Thousands of French Jews during World War II owe their lives to a dry cleaner’s teenage apprentice.
Adolfo Kaminsky was 18. Barely escaping internment in a French concentration camp, his father had arranged for his family to adopt false identities and go underground. He sent Adolfo to pick up their new papers from a member of the French resistance. When the resistance member learned that Adolfo had worked at a dry cleaner’s, he asked Adolfo if he knew how to “bleach” ink. Adolfo said he did: with lactic acid. Adolfo showed him how to erase the permanent blue ink that marked official documents with the word “Jew.”
And so began the career of one of the greatest forgers in France during the war. Kaminsky forged perfect identity cards, passports, food ration cards, and birth and marriage certificates. Kaminsky went on to form a team of forgers who created a lab right under the nose of the Nazis in a narrow attic in Paris. The neighbors thought they were all painters.Continue reading →
How to Defend the Christian Position On Abortion and Marriage
By Larry Plachno
At a recent pro-life gathering it became obvious that while there are a good many people strongly supportive of the Christian position on abortion and marriage, they are not ready and willing to speak up and defend that position. Some are simply afraid to say anything for fear of confrontation or what others will say. Those willing to speak up often admit that they do not know what to say or do.
This is not the time for people to sit on the sidelines and observe. We need everyone out there working to support what we believe in. Sister Lucia dos Santos, the last Fatima seer, sent a letter to Cardinal Carlo Caffarra. In it she said: “The final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Don’t be afraid.” she added, “because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and the family will always be contended and opposed in every way, because this is the decisive issue.” Continue reading →
“Friend, I am not cheating you! Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?”
You’ve been working for this landscaper for five summers now. You’re going back to school in a few weeks and you’ve asked for extra hours. The owner assures you he will do what he can. But one day a new guy shows up and starts work — and the possibility of your working extra hours is out. “Guy’s wife just got laid off,” your boss says, introducing him. “I’m trying to help him and his family by taking him on for a few hours a week.” So much for loyalty, you think.
The task of taking care of your elderly parent falls pretty much on you. Your brothers and sisters live a distance away. They all call from time to time to see how Mom is doing and express their concern, but none of them are in any position to provide the necessary day-to-day help. “They all have problems of their own,” Mom says, “I just thank God for you.” Then mom dies and they all show up, grieving as if they’ve been there all along. And of course, Mom’s estate is divided equally “because I love all my children just the same” — even though it’s your life that’s been turned upside down and you’ve borne the costs of caring for her. Though you would never say it, you seethe: It’s not fair. And you’re right.Continue reading →
“Everyone who acknowledges Me before others, I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father. But whoever denies Me before others, I will deny before My heavenly Father.”
It’s not very often that the Vatican gives approval to a film showing at the cinema, but it happened in 1997 when the Italian movie Life is Beautiful was first released. It’s an unusual film which deals with a sensitive subject, that of the Nazi Holocaust and the deportation of Jews to concentration camps. Although it won an Oscar for best picture, the movie has its critics as well as its admirers.
The film tells the story of a Jewish Italian man named Guido, an attractive clown-like figure who falls in love with Dora, the woman of his dreams. His humorous personality wins her affection and eventually they marry and have a son. The little boy is about six years old when the Nazi persecution takes over. The Germans round up Guido and his son and, because Dora refuses to be left behind, all three are taken to a concentration camp. When they arrive the couple is separated in preparation for hard labor. Any children are killed, but Guido hides his son and persuades him the whole business is a game in which he must co-operate if he wants to win a prize. The scenes unfold with a mixture of comedy and drama, exploring the rich themes of love, of sacrifice, and of courage.Continue reading →
We Discover “our Star” in the Ordinary Course of our Daily Lives
“… behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him.”
Perhaps you’ve seen the touching Christmas episode of The West Wing which first aired several years ago but has since been repeated.
A few days before Christmas, Toby Ziegler, the President’s sarcastic and sardonic communications director, receives a call from the Washington D.C. police asking if he knows a homeless man who had died in the cold the night before. Toby has no idea who the man is. The police find Toby’s card in the coat the man was wearing — Toby had given the coat to a shelter a long time ago. Toby discovers that the man was a decorated Vietnam veteran; his only survivor is a brother who also lives on the streets. Toby uses his Presidential connections to arrange for the man’s internment with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on Christmas Eve.Continue reading →

The Fallacies of Reasons for Abortion
By Larry Plachno
If you take the time to study the arguments in favor of abortion you will find that none of them can be applied to decisions and actions regarding either individuals or groups. They all have some type of fallacy be it faulty reasoning, a mistaken belief or a failure in logic.
Murder has been with us since the start of human history, as indicated by the story of Cain and Abel in Genesis. As our society gets older we would expect it to become more mature, more knowledgeable and more humane. It appears that the exact opposite is true. As predicted by the Blessed Virgin at Fatima, things have only gotten worse. The 20th century may well be remembered as the bloodiest in human history. While figures vary, sources indicate that the Soviets, the Communist Chinese and the Nazis together killed more than 116 million people during this past century and this figure does not include other, lesser, atrocities by other governments. ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno- Why does the Main Stream Media Censor News? This question came up recently in regard to the videos showing Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts. Anyone who looks at the situation knows that the Main Stream Media regularly ignores, censors and bends the news to suit its own agenda and morals. But the really interesting question is not what they do but why they do it. Give me a few minutes of your time and I will explain the “why.”
The examples of this are far too numerous to mention. Recently, the most glaring example is that while the videos came out showing Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts for profit, sometimes cut from babies still breathing, most of the networks were concerned about Cecil the lion. We regularly hear about endangered species of animals and the work being done to increase their numbers. But, the MSM has little to say about nationalities whose numbers drop in half each generation because they have turned away from marriage and family. And, don’t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to do a program on how the best indicator that someone will end up in prison is being raised without the guidance of a father. Continue reading →
From a Friend of the ProLifeCorner- “What do you want of us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the holy One of God.”
A good friend of mine related this true story to me of an older priest he met while working at an inner-city soup kitchen. The older priest recounted a story of an exorcism experience that he encountered early in his priesthood while he was stationed in a diocese on the east coast. This priest, only a few years ordained at the time, was ask to be the exorcist of that particular diocese because of his piety and apparent holiness. At his first experience as an exorcist, he was sent by the diocesan authorities to a home of an elderly woman where he encountered a young man – her son, who was obviously in great emotional distress and anguish of soul. Sometime during the course of the exorcism, the young priest asked the young man why he was so troubled. The young man answered in a shrill-like voice, that he was possessed by an unclean spirit from hell – a demon. The priest then responded with the question directed to the unclean spirit, “Then what is your name or what do you call yourself!” The demon retorted, “My name is hatred for the Mother of God!” . Rockford, Il – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 7-25-2014 – by James – Christians are being persecuted and killed everyday in over 50 countries by followers of Islam. Our liberal media is silent, President Obama is silent and even funding some of the groups that are slaughtering Christians, and in many cities in Europe and America there have been huge protests in support of the Islamic terrorists and murderers.
To my fellow Christians in Rockford….can we join together to do something?
Our efforts may be small but if we offer them to Jesus together, He can use them as He wills. Continue reading →
