How to Defend the Christian Position On Abortion and Marriage
By Larry Plachno
At a recent pro-life gathering it became obvious that while there are a good many people strongly supportive of the Christian position on abortion and marriage, they are not ready and willing to speak up and defend that position. Some are simply afraid to say anything for fear of confrontation or what others will say. Those willing to speak up often admit that they do not know what to say or do.
This is not the time for people to sit on the sidelines and observe. We need everyone out there working to support what we believe in. Sister Lucia dos Santos, the last Fatima seer, sent a letter to Cardinal Carlo Caffarra. In it she said: “The final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Don’t be afraid.” she added, “because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and the family will always be contended and opposed in every way, because this is the decisive issue.” Continue reading →
There have been an increasing number of questions from conservatives regarding the liberal position on abortion. Why is it so important to them? Why do the liberals insist that abortion be funded with tax dollars? Why is abortion tied to marriage and church? And, why do liberals insist on killing a baby instead of allowing him or her to be adopted?
The answers to these questions all go back to the polarization of our society. For liberals, abortion is the “flagship” of their “fleet” of various positions supporting their liberal stand that decisions and actions should be determined by personal choice rather than by judging them as good or evil based on what is best for others. If abortion was eliminated, or at least judged from the standpoint of good and evil, it would seriously weaken the liberal position supporting choice over good and evil. If you give me a few minutes of your time, I will explain the background behind our polarized society and why abortion has emerged as a key point in this struggle. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner– 8-1-2016 – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative – In a shocking development the Illinois Conference of Catholic Bishops have declared themselves “neutral” on a controversial bill that would force pro-life medical professionals and pregnancy care centers to tell mothers about the “benefits” of abortion and give mothers information on where and how to end the life of her child in an abortion clinic.
Pro-lifers have worked very hard to defeat SB 1564 since it was passed in May but the Illinois Bishops, by taking a “neutral” position, have essentially sided with Planned Parenthood and the Illinois abortion lobby in criminalizing any medical professional or care center worker who refuses to send a mother to an abortion clinic. SB 1564 also mandates that health care professionals and care centers tell mothers of the “benefits” of abortion. The Bishops statement says about this mandate, we “Would rather not alter the law in any way.” The Rockford Pro-Life Initiative is trying to figure out what the “benefits” are of the crushing of the skull, stopping the beating heart, and the brutal dismemberment of a little girl or boy in their mothers womb, but the Bishops of Illinois seem to have found something they find beneficial about this. ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno- Why does the Main Stream Media Censor News? This question came up recently in regard to the videos showing Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts. Anyone who looks at the situation knows that the Main Stream Media regularly ignores, censors and bends the news to suit its own agenda and morals. But the really interesting question is not what they do but why they do it. Give me a few minutes of your time and I will explain the “why.”
The examples of this are far too numerous to mention. Recently, the most glaring example is that while the videos came out showing Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts for profit, sometimes cut from babies still breathing, most of the networks were concerned about Cecil the lion. We regularly hear about endangered species of animals and the work being done to increase their numbers. But, the MSM has little to say about nationalities whose numbers drop in half each generation because they have turned away from marriage and family. And, don’t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to do a program on how the best indicator that someone will end up in prison is being raised without the guidance of a father. Continue reading →
Rarely does a day go by without someone asking: How did we get into this mess? We are facing all kinds of social problems including poverty, homelessness, crime and broken homes. Some nationalities are starting to disappear off the face of the earth because of substantially dwindling fertility rates while people are increasingly unable to work together because they no longer have common goals.
Would it surprise you to know that researchers and demographers predicted all of these things decades ago? The problem is that we failed to listen to them because we did not want to talk about good and evil, we did not want to talk about doing what is best for society, we did not want to talk about putting others first, and we certainly did not want to talk about Jesus Christ. Our failure to think about and consider the effects and the consequences of our decisions and actions is what got us into this mess. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno- In recent years a great deal of study has gone into research and demographics on social problems, birthrates, politics, marriage and related items. As a result, we have been able to document many of the differences between conservatives and liberals. In most cases we have been able to explain those differences.
One of the major differences between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives are more willing to connect cause and effect in regard to their actions and decisions, and are also more willing to look at how their actions and decisions are interconnected. Liberals are considerably less willing to look at cause and effect as it relates to their actions and decisions, or how their actions and decisions are interconnected. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno- How much of a connection is there between Jesus Christ, our economy and our politics? The answer is considerably more than you might think, particularly once you understand that moral relativism is effectively the opposite of Christianity. Having spent more than 20 years working with statistics surrounding interconnected social problems, I can tell you that all of this not only becomes increasingly simple but also logical.
When pressed, Jesus Christ gave us two very simple and basic commandments: love of God and love of neighbor. Since God sent His Son to suffer and die to atone for our sins, love of God means judging our actions and decisions as to whether they are good or evil. Being a follower of Jesus Christ means that good is what is best for others and society. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner-By Larry Plachno- Some of the pro-life groups have been celebrating over announcements that the number of abortions has been declining recently. The researchers and demographers will tell you that the dancing in the streets is unwarranted and at best questionable. What at first appears to be a positive turn in the battle is actually a worsening of the war. The situation is similar to saying that you have reduced automobile accidents by greatly reducing the number of cars on the road.
A major part of this problem is that far too many people concentrate on the effects of abortion while ignoring the cause of abortion and the cause of most of our social problems, which is moral relativism. Since our elected officials, our religious leaders and our pro-life groups all depend on votes or contributions for support, they tend to ignore moral relativism for fear of offending someone. The result is that our society continues to grow more selfish and continues to embrace moral relativism. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno- It could be that the reason why our society is falling apart is because we are asking the wrong questions.
There is a G.K. Chesterton quotation that is very appropriate right about now. He said “Jesus promised his disciples three things – that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.” So, the obvious question is when were you last in trouble over your stand on morals? Have you at least taken a stand that caused others to give you a funny look? If neither, then there is probably a pretty big chance that you are asking the wrong questions. Continue reading →
Will We Go Down in History As the Generation that Ignored Good and Evil?
ProLifeCorner- By Larry Plachno
The famous G.K. Chesterton is known for his many insightful quotes. One that is particularly appropriate in our current situation is: “It isn’t that they can’t see the solution. It is that they can’t see the problem.”
And we do have problems. One recent survey indicated that approximately three out of every four Americans think that our country is heading in the wrong direction. Our social problems are out of control, our families are disintegrating, and our people no longer believe in good and evil. Our society has become so brainwashed and influenced by the liberal media that we can no longer see the cause of our problems. It is increasingly obvious that our society is falling apart because we no longer judge our actions as good or evil and we no longer think about doing what is best for other people and society.
