ProLifeCorner- Sun Sept 27 2015- “See what you have stored up for yourselves against the last days.”
Today, in light of the 2nd reading from the Apostle, St. James, I’m going to talk about time, talent and treasure, each briefly and separately.
It happens in every parish: The pastor has a new project in mind — a religious education program for teenagers, a Thanksgiving dinner for the poor, or a food and clothing collection for the local shelter. The pastor then approaches parishioners to help out. It’s a tough sell: People are very protective of their time, they’re not sure this is something they want to do or are comfortable being involved with, or they doubt they have the abilities and patience necessary for this kind of work. But, eventually, a group of volunteers — however reluctant — comes together.Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Freeport Illinois- By Frank Munda- We recently celebrated Independence Day, 2015. As I look back on my many years here on Earth I have had many joys and many sorrows, and yes many regrets; regrets of things that I did and things that I failed to do. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife, awesome children who married wonderful spouses, and they in turn have been blessed with wonderful children themselves.
There have been dark times as well. The darkness of Vietnam had just slipped away from the consciousness of many American citizens when the greatest travesty of injustice came upon the scene; when an activist controlled Supreme Court illegally and immorally created law declaring that a mother now had the right to kill her baby through abortion. Many of our young readers are probably not even aware that what occurred in January of 1973 was an illegal move by the Supreme Court. The three branches of government, Legislative, Judicial, and Executive are supposed to be checks and balances. The Judicial branch of the government is to rule on existing laws or proposed laws presented by the Legislative branch of the government. This was not the case in January 1973. Through Roe versus Wade and Doe versus Bolton, the Supreme Court created law; a law that states a woman has a right to kill her baby in what should be the safest place in the world- the mothers womb. ProLifeCorner.com- Pastor Timothy Barr’s homily today cautions us to not to interpret reality through our emotions. He explains that passions are not a bad thing but they must be guided by the truth. That truth is Jesus Christ. When we are obedient to the truth there is great joy. He further stated that the man is the head of the family but the woman is the heart of the family sharing equal responsibility and, hopefully through their teachings and actions, are leading their children to heaven. It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. How I personally feel about this celebration can be understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don’t care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate My birth, just get along and love one another.
If it bothers you that your home town does not allow a Nativity scene, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your front lawn. If all My followers did that, there wouldn’t be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town.
Stop worrying that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It is I who make all trees. You can remember Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that once in a teaching, explaining who 1 am in relation to you and what each of our tasks are. If you have forgotten that one, look up John l5:l-8.
If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth, here is my wish list. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner – 11-17-14 – by Staff – Many years ago we were working on material for our Pro Life Corner bulletin quotes when we came across several wonderful pro-life quotes from Mark Pickup. We did not realize at that time the tribulations he and his wife, LaRee, were experiencing, we only knew his writing was superb and we wanted to share it with others. As years passed we became more aware of Mark’s condition and just some of the trials he has endured. We have corresponded with him for quite some time and were so thrilled at the wonderful news he shared with us when he was able to take a few steps. What joy! Please take time to read the story of a most remarkable and faithful pro-life couple. If only our world contained more couples like them, it would be a much better place to live. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner- Are you ready for the onslaught against good and evil In regard to abortion, marriage and family?
By Larry Plachno Anyone who has done any reading in this area is fully aware that our society has been involved in a fierce and very polarized battle for decades. On the one side are the people who believe in good and evil. On the other side are the people who believe in personal rights instead of good and evil.
I cannot stress strongly enough that the basic problem is whether we judge all of our actions and decisions as to whether they are good for others and society rather than what we want. The reason for this is because everything is interconnected. Demographers have shown that in recent presidential elections, states with the lowest fertility rates vote for liberal candidates and liberal issues while states with the highest fertility rates vote for conservative candidates and conservative candidates. As you become more liberal, your ideal family size gets smaller and you are less likely to be married. Abortion, marriage, family and politics are all interconnected whether we like it or not. ProLifeCorner.com – 7-21-2014 – by Staff – Are you aware that even as you read this article there exists a way in which we can reduce the divorce rate from a staggering 50% down to only 2 %? A way to improve and heal families? A way to help reduce breast cancer in women? A way to reduce abortions? All these things and more can be accomplished by married couples using NFP-Natural Family Planning. Continue reading →
Beaumont, Alberta,Canada- By Mark Pickup-It was a quiet March evening. My wife, LaRee, was sitting in her favorite chair beside the fireplace that you see in the photo above. She was knitting while I was writing a post for this blog and listening to J.S.Bach’s “Saint Matthew Passion”. Something occurred to me. I said, “It was 30 years ago yesterday that I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.” LaRee paused, put her knitting down on her lap, looked over her reading glasses and said, “We won. We beat the MS.” It was of those revelations of life when the experiences of decades melt into a single moment: The room filled with thunderous silence LaRee was right. We rose above the disease.
I gazed toward the fireplace and became lost in the flames. Our terrifying journey with MS did not drive us apart, it drew us closer. In the midst of the consuming fire of a terrible disease, we embraced each other tighter when the flames grew higher…. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner.com- 3-1-2014 – By Frank Munda- See how they love one another. To love one another should be the goal of all Christians. We Christians have worked together in the pro-life movement for over 40 years and have put aside our denominational differences so we could work in a unified way to save God’s babies. Through God’s grace there have been many lives saved and many mothers saved from the very real presence of post abortion stress syndrome. Continue reading →
ProLifeCorner.com- by Larry Plachno- Why is it that liberals are trying to devalue and eliminate marriage while Christians and other conservatives are supporting marriage? I see an increasing number of religious and even secular groups supporting marriage these days. The reason for this is because traditional marriage is a reflection of God on earth. Continue reading →
