Thinking As God Thinks
“You are thinking not as God does but as human beings do.”
Best-selling author Geneen Roth and her husband were among the thousands of investors who lost their life-savings in Bernie Madoff’s $65-billion-Ponzi scheme. As you can imagine, the anger, fear and regret were intense — 30 years of retirement savings thought to be in a “safe” place disappeared in an instant.
In her new book entitled Lost and Found, Geneen recounts her family’s story and those of friends who were ruined in the Madoff fraud. She writes that the experience led her to a whole new way of thinking about the “irrational, destructive ways” we use money and evaluate wealth. In losing everything, the Roths and their friends “also lost their attachment to what they thought they needed to be happy.“ Continue reading
“Everyone who acknowledges Me before others, I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father. But whoever denies Me before others, I will deny before My heavenly Father.”
It’s not very often that the Vatican gives approval to a film showing at the cinema, but it happened in 1997 when the Italian movie Life is Beautiful was first released. It’s an unusual film which deals with a sensitive subject, that of the Nazi Holocaust and the deportation of Jews to concentration camps. Although it won an Oscar for best picture, the movie has its critics as well as its admirers.
The film tells the story of a Jewish Italian man named Guido, an attractive clown-like figure who falls in love with Dora, the woman of his dreams. His humorous personality wins her affection and eventually they marry and have a son. The little boy is about six years old when the Nazi persecution takes over. The Germans round up Guido and his son and, because Dora refuses to be left behind, all three are taken to a concentration camp. When they arrive the couple is separated in preparation for hard labor. Any children are killed, but Guido hides his son and persuades him the whole business is a game in which he must co-operate if he wants to win a prize. The scenes unfold with a mixture of comedy and drama, exploring the rich themes of love, of sacrifice, and of courage. Continue reading
The Easter Triduum 2017
ProLifeCorner- Frank J. Munda- Every year during Lent for the past several years I try to listen to Fr. John Corapi’s presentation of The Easter Triduum. It helps me to think more of our Lord’s passion starting on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and on to Holy Saturday, leading into His glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday.
There are many good and holy pastors who have given great homilies on this subject. I am especially partial to Fr. Corapi’s talk. As you do your meditations this Lent, please pray for Father Corapi and all ministers who are serving our Lord by ministering to us through their preaching’s.
Also, please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters all throughout the world who cannot worship our Lord without fear of being attacked. May our Lord deliver them from these days of sorrow and bring peace, joy, and love back into their lives. Continue reading
Politics Cannot Save

Showing Compassion to Those Who Are Grieving
“As [Jesus] drew near the gate of [Nain], a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.”
From an article entitled “A Grieving Mom’s Request “ which appeared in The Boston Globe Magazine, on March 8, 2015. – a year after the death of her daughter, a grieving mom – Roberta Waters writes to family and friends: she writes,
“There are no appropriate words; nothing you can say that will make it better. But your calls, your visits, your invitations mean a lot to me. They remind me that I am still alive and still have a life outside of this tragedy.” Continue reading
My Sheep Hear My Voice
4th Sunday In Easter
“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me …”
Every evening she could hear the newborn in the apartment next door cry and cry. The parents put the child to sleep alone in the dark. The baby cries for a long time; the exhausted parents clearly are oblivious to their child’s anguish or are at a loss as to what to do.
What can or should she do? She’s not sure. Speaking to the parents might make what is just an annoying situation into something much worse.
So, in her struggle and anguish, she decides to pray. And lo and behold; during her earnest prayer, God’s good grace inspires her to sing! Continue reading
Today I’m going to pretend
I have no other work but
To listen to your voice, O LORD
Your voice will come to me
Carried on the wind of peace,
That’s how I’ll know it’s You
Peace, beyond common understanding,
Will flood my being, as I do daily work
The work that I must do to comfort
My body: for food, for shelter, for identity
Among men: what I wear, what I drive,
Where I live – these are facts that interest
The people in the natural world, but where
I truly LIVE, in the Spirit with You, I am
Free, without cares, like a child You are
In charge and caring for me completely.

Christ’s Peace vs the Government’s Peace
ProLifeCorner- Homily given at midnight mass.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
It was the great Roman boast: Ara Pacis Augustae – which means, “the era of Augustus’ peace.”
During the first and second centuries of the common era, the Roman empire, from Iberia to Greece, enjoyed a period of relative prosperity and tranquility. In one of the great propaganda campaigns of history, Caesar Augustus was hailed as a “god” and the “savior of the world” for the peace he enforced. Continue reading
