The Final Battle Between the Lord and the Kingdom of Satan

One of the most popular topics on Christian internet sites and blogs in late summer is a revelation that took place 30 years ago but was only printed in English in June of 2015. It may provide some thought for those pondering the end times. For others, it might be a sobering look at our world, where it is going, and what we need to do.
This story starts at the Vatican in 1980 when Pope John Paul II organized a synod of bishops devoted to the family. At the conclusion, the synod fathers called for the creation of theological centers devoted to the study of the Church’s teaching on marriage and the family. As a result, John Paul II made plans for the establishment of the Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family. Carlo Caffarra. a priest and professor of moral theology, was to be named president of the institute. Today he currently serves as Archbishop of Bologna and a Cardinal in the Church.
Plans were that the Holy Father was to announce the new Institute at his regular Wednesday audience on May 13, 1981, the 64th anniversary of the first appearance of the Blessed Virgin at Fatima. Before the announcement could be made, Pope Paul II was attacked and shot. He was badly wounded but survived. At soon as he felt better, he called for and read the third secret of Fatima, presumably seeing his attack and survival as part of the third secret. Soon afterward, Pope John Paul II consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary including a personal appearance by him at Fatima on May 13, 1982.
The Apostolic Constitution of the new institute was given on October 7, 1982. At that time the institute was entrusted in a special way to the care of the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Fatima. Hence, it is not surprising that Carlo Caffarra wrote to the Bishop of Sister Lucia of Fatima asking for her prayers. Lucia was the oldest of the three children who witnessed the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin at Fatima that started on May 13, 1917 and included three revelations and the miracle of the sun seen by many thousands. While two of the youngsters, Jacinta and Francisco, died in 1919, Lucia went on to join an order of nuns.
Unexpectedly, Carlo Caffarra received a very long letter back signed by Sister Lucia that is now in the institute’s archives. Many years later, on February 16, 2008, now Cardinal Carlo Caffarra celebrated Mass at the tomb of St. Padre Pio, the priest who carried the stigmata of Christ. Cardinal Caffarra granted an interview where he mentioned the letter and revelation of Sister Lucia. This was published in Voce de Padre Pio in March of 2008 in Italian and apparently did not receive wide circulation. It was finally translated into English and posted by Rorate Caeli in mid-June, 2015 where it was picked up by several Christian publications and Web sites.
Earlier parts of the translation deal with Padre Pio but following is the question to Cardinal Carlo Caffarra about Sister Lucia’s letter and his reply.
“Q. There is a prophecy by Sister Lucia dos Santos of Fatima, which concerns the final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan. The battlefield is the family. Life and the family. We know that you were given charge by John Paul II to plan and establish the Pontifical Institute for the Studies of Marriage and the Family.”
“Yes, I was. At the time of this work entrusted to me by the Servant of God John Paul II, I wrote to Sister Lucia of Fatima through her Bishop as I couldn’t do so directly. Unexplainably however, since I didn’t expect an answer, seeing that I had only asked for prayers, I received a very long letter with her signature – now in the Institute’s archives. In it we find written: ‘the final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Don’t be afraid,’ she added, ‘because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and the family will always be fought and oppressed in every way, because this is the decisive issue.’ And then she concluded: ‘however, Our Lady has already crushed its head.’”
The translation continues: “Talking also to John Paul II, you felt too that this was the crux, as it touches the very pillar of creation, the truth of the relationship between man and woman among the generations. If the founding pillar is touched. the entire building collapses and we see this now, because we are at this point and we know it. And I’m moved when I read the best biographies of Padre Pio, on how this man was so attentive to the sanctity of marriage and the sanctity of the spouses, even with justifiable rigor on occasion.”
As strong as this sounds, it is not necessarily something new. One Peter Five reports that as far back as the 17th Century our Lady of Good Success was quoted as follows: “Thus I make it known to you that from the end of the 19th century and shortly after the middle of the 20th century . . . the passions will erupt and there will be a total corruption of morals. As for the Sacrament of Matrimony, which symbolizes the union of Christ with his Church, it will be attacked and deeply profaned. Freemasonry, which will then be in power, will enact iniquitous laws with the aim of doing away with this making it easy for everyone to live in sin and encouraging procreation of illegitimate children born without the blessing of the Church. In this supreme moment of need for the Church, the one who should speak will fall silent.”
On October 13, 1884, exactly 33 years prior to the miracle of the sun at Fatima, Pope Leo XIII had just finished celebrating Mass when he sank into a trance for a few minutes. When he regained consciousness he related that he had seen a vision of evil spirits who had been released from Hell and were trying to destroy the Church. In the midst of the horror, St. Michael appeared and cast Satan the his legions into the abyss of Hell. Soon afterward Pope Leo XIII composed the prayer that we know today. “St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle . . . “
On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI issued what is now a well-known encyclical letter named Humanae Vitae. At that time it was ignored and laughed at by many. But today it is increasingly obvious that he was correct and his predictions were right on the mark. Pope Paul VI spoke out against methods of birth control and predicted that they would result in a general lowering of moral standards resulting from sex without consequences, they would reduce the status of women and they would lead to abuse of power by public authorities.
Our Lady appeared to Sister Agnes Sasagawa, known for her stigmata and the weeping wooden statue of Mary, in Akita, Japan in 1973. One Peter Five reports Our Lady as saying: “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres . . . churches and altars sacked, the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”
Why Marriage and Family?
In recent years, with the help of computers and statistics, the demographers and researchers have discovered that our actions and decisions are interconnected and that marriage, family and the love of children is the key factor in making our society run properly. Here are some of the more important reasons.
Love of God, Love of Neighbor
While the admonishments of Jesus Christ are the cornerstone of Christianity, they have also been found to be a secular guide to making our society run well.
On the Christian side, we note that God sent His Son to earth to suffer and die to atone for our sins. Hence, we know that good and evil is a top priority with God and that some atonement is expected for sin. Jesus Christ gave us two rules to live by: love of God and love of neighbor. We love God when we judge our actions and decisions as to whether they are good or evil. We are a follower of Jesus Christ when “good” means doing what is best for society and others.
This becomes particularly important when we realize that when we are faced with an action or decision that could impact others, we have two choices. We can be unselfish and do what is best for others. Or, we can put ourselves first and do what we want regardless of whom we harm. This is why the traditional definition of a Christian is someone with a deep concern for others.
There is also a secular side to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Decades of research and computer statistics on social problems confirm and endorse the teachings of Jesus Christ. When we judge our actions as either good or evil, and when we put others first and work with others, we all come out ahead. It has become obvious that society is much like a team; if we work together for common goals we win. If each member of the team puts themselves first and refuses to work with the others, then the team loses.
For many of us who have done the research, this knowledge confirms the divinity of Jesus Christ. How could a Jewish Carpenter living 2000 years ago without benefit of computers and statistics come up with social guidelines that are both simple and universal? This goes a long way towards explaining why the message of Christ was unique and why crowds followed Him to hear what He said.
In my decades of working with interconnected social problems I have yet to have anyone insist that we will all come out ahead if we ignore good and evil and if we put ourselves first instead of working with others. Yet, five minutes later some people will ignore what they said. There are several people who have commented that Heaven is for those people who believe in good and evil and put others first. Hell is for those people who ignore good and evil and put themselves first.
Marriage and Family
Unless you have done the research, you cannot appreciate how marriage and family continue to come up as the best solution to social problems. Marriage and family is the basic building block of society where people learn to set their own wants aside and work together for the good of the family. From a religious standpoint, marriage is a reflection of God on earth by combining together the love of the mother with the guidance of the father.
Just go down a list of social problems and you will find that marriage is the key to a good society and the solution to social problems. Because of strength in numbers, married people are less likely to be homeless. For much the same reason, married people are less likely to live in poverty. Statistically, except for major diseases, married people are healthier and tend to live longer. Married people are statistically more likely to attend church regularly and less likely to commit crimes or be the victim of crimes. The statistics also show that as people move away from marriage, families and children, they are more likely to also move away from God and church. Kids do better growing up with married biological parents. Marriage is the obvious prevention of broken homes. And, the single major factor why someone ends up in prison is growing up without the guidance of a father.
We are living in a society where both government and churches are moving away from the need and importance of marriage and family. Our government has eliminated the family wage, making it more difficult to families to survive. In addition, single people are encouraged with welfare while married people are taxed. Even some churches have moved away from supporting marriage and family. When is the last time you heard a homily talking about the negativity of divorce and single parenting?
Clearly, marriage and family is the single biggest factor in eliminating social problems and in improving our society. It is the foundation on which so many good things in our society are built. This is the obvious reason why it will be the final area of confrontation between the Lord and Satan.
I will mention abortions separately because I know several people working to reduce abortion and I have joined and stood with them on more occasions than I can count. Abortion is the killing of an innocent human being and the Blessed Virgin has mentioned that abortion has made God angry.
Other researchers and I have mentioned that in addition to looking at the effects of abortion, we need to look at its cause. The demographics show that the cause of abortion is a lack of respect for marriage, family and children. The last figures I saw indicated that 80 percent of women seeking an abortion were not married. Hence, it gets pretty obvious that in common with broken homes, poverty, homelessness and causing problems for kids, increasing marriage and respect for the family would significantly reduce abortions.
When I hear a clap of thunder, I have to wonder whether it is someone opposed to marriage or an abortionist standing in judgment before the Lord.
Repentance and Chastisement
The apparitions of our Blessed Mother are frequently accompanied by her call for penance, prayer and listening to the message of her Son. On a couple of occasions, Our Lady has suggested that God is unhappy with what we are doing and some chastisement may be necessary.
Included in the first part of the secrets of Fatima is a vision of Hell that horrified those who saw it. I regularly pray for sinners and those who do not understand the message of Jesus Christ. The third part of the secrets of Fatima includes a strong call to penance.
The chastisement has already begun for moving away from God, moving away from the teachings of Jesus Christ and moving away from marriage and family. My recent submission titled “Abortion, Affluence and Annihilation” shows that some nationalities are disappearing from the face of the earth because of the lack of marriage, family and children. There are now countries where the number of traditional inhabitants is dropping in half each generation. What is very interesting is that the nationalities brought this on themselves by moving away from the teachings of Jesus Christ and moving away from marriage, families and children.
In the forthcoming battle between the Lord and Satan on marriage and family, which side will you be on?
