The Kingdom of God Versus the Kingdom of Man

If we refuse to be ruled by God and his laws, then God will allow us to be ruled by tyrants.
It is very difficult not to think about the evil in the world today. My wife Chris and I have spent the better part of the last 30 years talking about the evils of abortion. 9/11 bought a new form of terrorism into all of our lives. Often when I write of abortion, promiscuity, apathy, and the selfishness of the world I sometimes feel like the little brother who is pointing a finger at a sibling and crying out what he or she is doing wrong. I’ve even been told that I’m good at pointing out the problem, followed by “how about giving us some solutions.” In this article, once again, I will not be able to offer any solutions, but thanks to a recent homily by Pastor Timothy Barr we might have a better sense of direction.
With all the problems facing us today, not only here in America but all throughout the world, it is becoming more difficult to comprehend what is going on. That is, if we look at everything from only the human perspective things will not be clear. Perhaps we need to go back to basics. For those who do not believe in God, this article and the video to follow may not make any sense at all. When I was a young boy growing up the question was who is God? And why did God make me? The answer is “God is a supernatural being, Creator of all things.” The answer to the second question is “God made me to know Him love Him and serve Him in this world so I can be with Him in the next world.” From that perspective then life here on earth is but a simple journey on our way to heaven. However, if I look at things from a worldly perspective and I put my trust in earthly kings then more than likely I will not only be disappointed but it is a strong possibility I can be enslaved to a tyrannical king.
“As for me and my household I will serve the Lord.”
